Took the Ventora off eBay and am now making a second attempt to get the paint right. Or is this third? I forget. Started off with 400 W&D far too coarse for basecoat so am now using 600 W&D which seems better. Another 10 hours or so of this and I'll be ready to reapply the basecoat. bum.

they've been. They were away for two weeks and I wasn't ready to go to paint then. Damn my idleness earlier in the year.
Some of it I've taken it right back like a guide coat as I know the feckin primer wasn't quite right. Some of it just needs matting off for a recoat.

Glad to see you're sticking with it (despite me trying to distract you with that cheap '74 Laurel!).

I'd love the Laurel. Did sound like a weld-a-thon to sort it though... I was thinking earlier in the year of selling this and buying a Laurel (Cedric or CROWN). In my mind the Laurel drives nicer and rides better than the Vauxhall, although I've never driven one so how the hell would I know and TBH not driven the Ventora anywhere in particular since about 1998.
I have some time off next week so I'm hoping to get all the prep done by Saturday then maybe Tuesday whack on the new basecoat and then clear later in the week.

Yep, it's going to be a killer. Try to ignore the coarse voice, rough cough and raw hands and think about the beaut that will be at the end.
Out of interest how much filler have you put on that car? I have just got to the bottom of a 1/2 kilo tub but need a lot more. The back wings weren't very well shaped and they have needed quite a lot of plop to shape properly! So much for having a go about the amount of filler in the back of my car lol

not too much, its mostly in the lower rear quarters to blend in where the metal was welded in but the metal wasn't shaped very well to the original contours. Some running into the arches for the same reason. I used a fair amount but sanded a lot of it off again! I probably used best part of a killo of plod thinking about filling dimples and other bits and bobs, but I'd say I probably snaded nearly half of that out (I always end up with ridges and the like, I've very wastefull with filler).

got the front drivers wing and front drivers door prepped now. These are two of the most important pannels to get right as you see the most of them when you get into the car so any defects in these will irritate the hell out of me. Next panels to do are the roof and the bonnet for the same reason. The drivers wing and the roof are the two panels needing the most work as they were the worst ones. So once the roof it done I'm on the homeward stretch I think.
