Anyone remember the name/website address of the maker? After the team Autohausdolby visit to the Circuit du Sarthe at the weekend I'm feeling a strange and irrational urge to look at their pricelists (it'll wear off soon hopefully - if only for the sake of my bank account ) Gratuitous pictures of the circuit:

I forgot - Pork called it Langheck not Kamm for the earlier models - 917Ks are later and have short, cut-off tails.
Later still are the Flunder and CanAm open-topped cars.

Gash or not gash? I can buy lots of curse word cars for the same money and probably have just as much fun, but I want to spend at least a proportion of the afternoon looking at replica p0rn

The 917 in PPC was entirely scratch made, there is no kit available.
Theres a selection of GT40 replicas available, Ford even do one LOL. My local Ford dealer had one in!

I thought he was going to start churning them out and that he did a GT40 as well? Never mind, I probably got my wires crossed! My better half is moving out to Le Mans in 9 weeks time so we went to have a look around and see where she's going to be living, hence missing the race by a week ;D We are going to see the racing next year though

If you can't afford the real thing, you have no business owning it ... It's like having a knock off rolex or fake louis vitton bags.

Whatchootalkin'bout Willis? I'm not too sure about that, I'd rather have a nice rep sometimes than the real thing... Are you sure you would not like a mint aluminium Jag D-Type rep rather than a real one that you can't use?? Or how about a Caterham Seven in lieu of a Lotus? Nope, definately a place for good reps in my book. Let me find some piccies to justify... BB

I'm not too sure about that, I'd rather have a nice rep sometimes than the real thing... Are you sure you would not like a mint aluminium Jag D-Type rep rather than a real one that you can't use?? Or how about a Caterham Seven in lieu of a Lotus? I'd rather have a real D-Type jag and use it in anger on a race track where it should be. Face it, people with Replicas would rather have the real thing, but can't get one. It's like taking a 3dr Sierra and sticking all the Cossy body kit on it, and adding the right mechanicals... no matter how faithful, it is still not the real thing. I'm a bit of a car snob when it comes to these things. Replicas are a total waste of time and money as far as I'm concerned. It's not the real thing, and it never will be.

Forgot to add,.. Lotus/Caterham etc. Sevens have moved into a whole different realm and I would hardly describe them as a replica they are very much a kit car.

Hotwire, my mate was telling me a story when we were in le mans - i think its a friend of his dads but i forget - anyway, this guy owns a realy gt40. he then made a replica of it cos he wanted something to drive and didnt want to trash the real thing. In the end he actually prefers the drive and experience of the replica, and now never uses the real thing.
also, i think the caterhams are the least kit car of all seven replicas - after all, you can buy them pre-built as well as in kit form. in fact, they do more to push the turn key cars than they do the kits.
surely most replicas are kit cars, therefore the difference between kit car and replica is very little. ie most replicas are kit cars, but not all kit cars are replicas.

I've heard this arguement before and it doesn't wash with me,.. if the original ERAs can be raced and all the cars that turn up for AROC meetings and HSCC and VSCC race meetings can be raced then those that say they have the original and a replica have more of a love of collecting and investment than they do of cars with soul. Of course a modern replica is going to be more comfortable to drive, more refined... faster possibly. However they still arn't the same thing ... it's all a matter of class. The difference between a kit car and a replica is original design ...

I can definately see the point in replicas - some are really cool but some are really gash IMHO. I think it depends on the taste of the builder and the quality of the kit.
There seems to be a little "contreversy" floating around the interweb about the quality or otherwise of the kraftwerks 917 kit. I remember being unimpressed by it in the past but I can't remember why now. Anyone know which PPC the article(s) were in and what car they had on the cover?
