Or anybody else so qualifed in the MOT field. Spoke to a tester yesterday about removing the ABS from my E28, obviously it has a dashlight that I'll be removing along with the illuminated symbol. His arguement was that when he puts the chassis number into his 'pooter it'll come up with the fact it should have ABS, and he will therefore fail it. Before I step up with some homies and represent, is there any basis for his claims? I was under the impression that if something is fitted it must work correctly, but if it's not there then it's not an issue, unless of course it's something like a seatbelt or tyre... Anyway, the brakes will be functioning properly, pulling straight and all that at the correct pressure, so what say you?

I'm not a qualified MOT tester but this extract from the MOT testers manual seems to indicate that if components are missing but the brakes still work well enough that they are obliged to bring it to your attention (though you would already know of course ) but cannot fail it

His "pooter" won't say that your car has ABS..only what to do if it does! As long as any signs of the car having had ABS are removed and the brakes work according to the very low standards of the MOT test then you'll get a pass. MOT testers that "make up" rules in order to be "God" and have certain powers above innocent motorists really annoy me!

But what with all the regulation changes recently and my ever increasing big brother conspiracy theory, where they know when I've changed the air freshener, I thought it prudent to check it out. I'll crack on and get it done then, larger vented discs all round, a brand new bigger master cylinder and braided lines with a new in-car brake bias valve should be up to the job. Thanks once again.
