Alright guy's
Had been told about this site a while ago by some guys on a VW site.
I am looking for a renault alpine a110 from the 60's they are absolute beuts!
Have any been through here recently sold or for sale. Or do any of you lucky people own one. Not sure what I am looking to pay (what are they goin for now?), but would prefer one in rough shape to give some TLC. What should I be looking out for if I do find one apart from reddy browny coloured stuff which I am told is called 'rust'? No seriously what are their problem areas?
Take it easy guys

Welcome! I'm a fan of those A110 Renners too - very pretty looking cars. Fellow member alpineandy, as his name suggests, knows a thing or two about Alpine motors. I think price-wise they go for a lot of dinero - prestige car territory. I could be wrong on this though, and I don't know how much you're willing to spend ;D Anyhow, welcome to RR and hope you enjoy the forum

cheers for the welcome guys! They are pretty aren't they Some of you seem to have some pretty cool motors yourselves. Alpine Andy sounds like a good bet for sound information. This place looks like a real good mish mash of different motors, I love it! I'l edit my profile to let you know a little about mine.

Well, the body won't rust as it's GRP, but that can bring its own problems. IIRC, the Spanish built ones used thicker lay-up in the grp so have stronger bodies. No idea if the (presumably steel) chassis is rot prone though.

Hi Ya, I've only just caught up with the thread.... Well where do we start... How much have you got to spend. 30k to 60k for a 1600cc or 15k to 25k for a 1300. A110s are silly prices (especially when compared to a lotus elan or europa from that period). If your serious there's one on www.renaultalpine.co.uk but the main club for the a110 is : www.clubalpinerenault.org.uk/ PM me if this hasn't frightened you off. Cheers Andy

Weren't A110s also built in Spain and aren't they cheaper than the French built ones? Yes, in 1300cc and below (spain did a few 1400s with the 5 gordini engine but they're few and pricewise they're on-par with french 1300s) and they're the 15k part of the price guide. They also built some in brazil, mexico and bulgaria. Not sure how many built in either of them, but I've only ever seen 1 bulgarian 'bulgaralpine i think' for sale and it was more expensive than a french one. There's a mexican 1300 for sale for euro 35k ! Have a look on www.alpinerenault.com/ and see how expensive they are in france. I guess they didn't make many out & out sports cars so now everyone wants one. They rarely come up for sale over here. The last sensible'ish priced car I've seen was 3 years ago and priced at 11k and was a tatty spanish car. Really, I'd suggest you look at a Lotus (and I'm gutted to have to say that).

I was expecting about 15k to be honest mate for a 1300 in tatty nick. But might hope for one in about 13 pieces for 10k. Guess what I am saying is I wouldnt mind paying the money but really want a dodgy one to spend time on and would want something for less. But if one doesn't rear its pretty head then I may have to change my mind.
I know how hard they are to get hold of and also how hard they are to find in France. I have family over there and I have tried on several occasions to find one and have failed miserably!
It will be a joint purchase between me and the father in law to be, We were really looking for a project that wee can put the time in on. We have just finished a kit of an AC cobra with a V8 in and that is curse word hot and just about to finish a 911 based on VW running gear. But a real genuine A110 is our next target.

Right, If the cost hasn't put you off then join Club Alpine Renault. They have a network across europe. The French want top dollar for them. Germans want reasonable and upwards. You'll be very lucky to find one here. They're easier to find in spain and theyare reasonable about the prices, but you'll need to take a trailer to pick it up. I think Roadspeed in Stroud has a rough A108 for sale at the moment (not quite the same but similar). Good Luck.
