Hi folks, I'm a newbie here as i'm mainly a VW man. I currently own a nice patina's squareback but just recently I have been hankering after an Amazon to turn into a nice kustom. So does anyone have any knowledge, first hand experience, opinions, etc on these motors? Tell me all the good AND bad bits please. ALso inspirational pix would be good as well. Cheers in advance.

Anything in particular that you would you like to know? They make excellent daily drivers. For buying advice, read this & also the latest copy of Practical Classics (there's a small pic of an Amazon estate on the front cover - can't remember what the main photo is though). Best spec is probably twin carb & overdrive (B18 1.8 is freer revving, but B20 2.0 has more torque) with a freer flowing exhaust.

I regret getting rid of mine ('66 4 door auto) as great all rounder. 2 doors are more desirable with estates getting quite rare. Paul H (I can sell you a complete 1800S engine, overdrive gearbox and even a PAS system to fit )

Cheers guys.
Paul H - nothing in particular as I don't know enough about them to ask detailed questions yet. From my research so far it seems that they're pretty bullet proof if looked after OK and regularly serviced, etc.
It wouldnt be a daily driver for me more of a weekend warrior/fun car that may get occasional commuting duties. It would mainly get used for cruising to car shows and tattoo conventions up and down the country. So i'd like something reliable and capable of a being a motorway hauler as well as fun around town. Bit of everything really!! I want something practical as I have a couple of little kids that i'd haul around as well. DO amazons have rear seat belts or provision to fit them without too much hassle??
I wouldn't be going for an estate it'd be a 2 or 4 door, ideally twin carb and even better if it had the overdrive option.
Craig 1010cc - i had your bros on my watch list. What was his reserve/what would he take for it?? PM if you don't want to post here.
Cheers guys.

Why not an estate ? Great for hauling all sorts of tat and I once had all my band`s PA, amps, lights etc. etc. in and it still was pulling hard up an incline at 80 ish (alledgedly) (need to peek into my lock-up to see if mine is still there)

Seat belt mounts are there for the front on all models, but I think that some of the earlier ones only had rear mounts for 2 point belts. The rear belts were an option, whereas front ones were standard. The later ones had three point rear mounts though (mine is a '67 & has the three point rear mounts & OEM rear belts).
For motorways, o/d is best, but a non-o/d saloon is apparently ok. A non o/d estate is grim though - estates all have a lower diff (same as factory fitted o/d saloons) so 80 mph in top is about 5k rpm as opposed to 84mph being 4k rpm if o/d is fitted.
