Volvo 240 Estate, two-litre auto, E reg, power steering Ex-Wagoneer, read the Rev's moving comments here: retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=FSW&action=display&thread=1174053754Mot till 18th Aug, tax till end Sept, usual post-lowering clonks and tired bushes, tyres, propshaft joints but a good rot-free car with a strong engine and loads of space. Proper Volvo boot liner to keep the engine oil out of the carpet and a tow bar so it's the perfect car/parts chaser Something not quite right with the gearbox in the last couple of weeks, hangs in the lower gears longer than it should, no idea if this is a major problem, or whether it just needs a fluid change or if it's a clogged vacuum pipe or something. But I'm honest so I'm telling you instead of leaving it as a nice surprise Got to sell it for funds to get my Dodge back on the road, otherwise I'd be keeping it cause it's cool as beans. Looking for £200 and could bring it to RR show on Saturday The following might be included in sale, depending if they're wanted and how much I'm being offered: -2 brand new heavy duty Volvo rear springs ready to be cut as I was going to stiffen it a bit and raise it half an inch or so (but never got round to it) -front and rear shocks/inserts and rear susp bushes -Comedy bow tie which squirts water (don't ask me, just found it in the car the other day, but it's yours if you want it) Car's in central London, pm me or email paulwakely at gmail.com, O7763 882I25 Don't offer me any chips for it, I'm on a diet EDIT FOR GOOD NEWS: Gearbox isn't knackered, it was just a sticky kickdown cable, now sorted

I've been faffing about not deciding what to do with this car and now want to buy an estate, so because I'm hungry and the MOT runs out today if someone wants to come round, jump start it and buy me a bag of chips they can drive off in a M reg Alfa 155 Silverstone. Plus points: It's not rotten. It looks cool, and has spoilers. It's a rare homologation special - one of 250 right hookers out of 2500 lighter and more powerful versions of the 1.8 Twin Spark that were built to gain the car entry to the BTCC, which it won. So it might even be collectable one day. It's got a Momo steering wheel. It goes well. I've been using it loads for the last six months and it never let me down until two days ago, when the battery was mysteriously flat. It's got the larger 15" wheels like the V6 and handles pretty well, and sounds great, like an Alfa should. It's a great motorway car and not too bad on fuel, even at 100+ The radio cassette works. Minus points: The paint is dreadful. The bonnet looks like papyrus, the top half of the car is pinkish and the roof has a flaky effect in the laquer that looks like the Singing detective (ask an old person...) The driver's side mirror is dangling down the side of the car. The front suspension bushes are shot. The interior has wear on the driver's seat near the door. The gear change is a bit mardy, or it could be that the clutch sometimes doesn't go all the way. Anyway, sometimes it crunches a bit, usually when cold. It's only taxed till the end of the month. There's a freeflow induction thing thats falling to bits. Two tyres are near the limit. There's bird curse word on it. Despite all the negative points, it's still a great car and I've had thousands of fun trouble-free miles so it could still be Motted and make an interesting daily, or even a good track car/BTCC rep with a bit of pedigree. Offer stands for a couple of days before it goes on the bay. Car's in Holborn in the middle of London. My number's 07763 882125 (sorry no pics, it always seems to be dark at the moment) www.aroc-uk.com/BuyingGuides/The%20Alfa%20Romeo%20155.pdfwww.aroc-uk.com/misc/wallpapers/aroc-wp-14.jpg

Bought this gearbox as a spare from a bloke who swore it was re-conditioned and it does look it but it's sat in my lock-up for years and could do with another input bearing I think as the outside's been damp but the inside was all oiled up and so should be fine. This box is the one to put in an Anglia is you're putting the 1500GT lump in as you don't have to chop the tunnel about, apparently Must be worth £25 to someone, surely? Might have pics somewhere, but it pretty much looks like a gearbox! It's in South London and you'd have to pick it up but I could bring it to the Ace sometime if anyone wanted

The 2.0 litre Norman Atmo lump's been put in one, so I can't see why the R21 turbo won't go. It's super rare, one of 8 on the road in UK, but it needs work and no-one seems to want them (thinks: maybe that's how they got that rare) Not sure I can be doing with the parade of bozos that is the mighty 'bay, so considering breaking it at the weekend but then if there's only 8 (or 7 when I'm done) on the road then who am I going to sell the spares to?

It's not bad, but it's had a cheap respray and is starting to pickle up a bit, and the front wings are fibreglass. Presentable enough to use as a daily though. It's not that rotten, but there is a hole in one of the front chassis rails Can I tempt you sir?

Hi Seth Alive and well, just busy in the new job. stylish winter snotter was my plan but I've had a long hard look at the money/time/space situation and figured that it's stupid to be buying more when I've got a car as nice as the Dodge just sitting doing nothing. If no-one takes it and I can find an engine I'll flog the Alfa and trundle round in the Renault for a bit anyway. Might as well look at a cool dashboard when you're stuck in London traffic Sorry havefunSKOmad - if it ran I would probably bring it up to you just to go guitar-hunting in Music Ground in Doncaster - class shop and cheaper than London prices

Cheers darkslider, but it won't fit - the 15 is like the 12 and the engine is in front of the box, and the R4 is the other way round so the pulleys and stuff are at the wrong end. Del managed to get an R5 Gordini turbo engine to fit in his 12 but not without a lot of grief and bits from an 18 IIRC. The 18/Fuego swap should be possible but you'd probably need the whole car or one in a breakers so you could get all the engine mounts etc. There must be someone breaking a 12 somewhere since no-one seems to want them, but I haven't managed to find one yet

Tis indeed the autoshite car. Bought on impulse cause my aunt had one (in Primrose yellow!) and I loved the seventies style. Was hoping my mate Del at Renospeed would be able to turn up an engine but he'd just dismantled the only suitable one he had to use the rods out of it on one of his R4s Still keeping an eye out for an engine and will grab one if one turns up anywhere but really just need to get rid... Problem is every time I look at it I start thinking I want to keep it

The clearout continues… (and I read the pic posting stuff) I also bought this in a moment of weakness and I'm not going to be able to fix this either with a full engine rebuild on the Dodge, Ford Taunus and Imp to restore, Alfa 155 to keep running and maybe a sharknose 323i on the way… Apart from the Mot and tax till end of Jan, there's not much good to say about it apart from the dashboard looks cool. The head gasket's gone, there's a bit of rot in the front chassis rails (though not terminal) and it's got knackered horrible seats from an astra or something. Did think I'd find a fuego Turbo lump for it and paint it matt black with orange gordini-style stripes over it and fit some black vinyl bucket seats but that's just not going to happen (unless no-one buys it, of course in which case I'll have a rethink) Offers into three figures please and most of that's for the tax! This one's in South London by the way

Too dumb to work out how to post pics (or links for that matter) so please have a look at: www.flickr.com/photos/91609996@N00/sets/72157594360336270I've got to face the fact that I'm not going to manage to sort it out with so many other projects on the go (mainly a goddam Dodge which is going to kill me) The problems. The exhaust has snapped and needs replacing, but the cause of it is a bad judder that I think is due to clutch plate contamination. So it might need a clutch. The brakes are likely to be sticking cause it's been sitting a while. And one of the front wheel bolts has snapped off, so there's only three holding it on. Also, the gear change is terrible. I did toy with just dropping a 100A engine and four-speed into it (it started life as a 100A) but then found out you can fit the 1500cc Vanette lump and that others had managed to sort out the gear change for the five-speed. So there's lots of potential if you're more decisive than me! There's no MoT and it's SORN declared. All the tyres are good, the paint is all good apart from a dent on the drivers front wing which isn't really noticeable, and the trailing edge of the bonnet is starting to pickle up (Good excuse to paint it matt black). It handles far better than the Coupe did with the wider tyres and estate rear suspension. The interior is really good as is the underneath. I'm reluctant to ebay it cause I really want it to go to a good home. The car's located in Peterborough and will obviously need to be towed since there's no exhaust on it. I've moved to London (which is the other reason I'm selling) so please don't arrange to see and not turn up like so many people seem to when you sell a car I'm looking for £250 ono for it, which despite all the faults is pretty darn cheap for such a nice super rare car. By the way, the paint always looks gold in pictures but is actually green in most light. Please email me with any more questions or call me on 07763 882125 Cheers for looking, Paul

That Cresta used to live in a lock up about 20 yards from my house when I first lived in London and was still running then and looking awesome.
But that was 15 years ago so no idea if it's still about...
really sweet though, hope it didn't get Pro-streeted in the Nineties...

I used to love all this, and was once obsessed with ideas like an electric Imp with a solar panel roof, a t-bucket made from an old milk float (just cause I noticed that some have a drop tube front axle!!) and building my Dart with a really high comp ratio to run on LPG or bioethanol. But then I realised that the chances are that legislation would shaft me simply because it's an old car and I'd likely get taxed the same not to mention have to jump through loads of DVLA and insurance grief. They're scrapping the alternative fuels exemption in the new round of congestion charge increases and so I kind of thought 'the hell with it' The new Chrysler hybrid powertrain uses an electric motor and clutches that fits into their existing auto gearbox tunnels behind a V8, so there should be potential when they become available second-hand and the computers get worked out. Or Chrysler will give the gear to someone and we'll see a hybrid Charger or something at SEMA, that'd be cool.

Those Rivs are one of my all time favourite cars. Annoyingly I've seen them for not much more than I've sunk into my Dart. But then if I had one I'd be saying the same thing about clap-door Lincolns, Stude Avantis, Lotus Esprits etc etc

If you can find a copy - Tuning Four Cylinder Fords by Paul Davies published by Speedsport has lots of very useful info. It's pretty old though (I have a copy of the 2nd edition dated 1974 - ISBN 0-85113-076-3) but you might find a copy via eBay. I'll sell you my copy for a fiver plus postage if you want it (selling pretty much everything at the moment for the big V8 fund )
