Hey Mr_Bo11ox, I wouldn't dismiss the 2.0 V6 as being too low-powered cause it makes up for it by being far revvier than any ford V6 has any right to be. It's great, especially with a manual box behind it. How do I know? Cause I've got a '73 Taunus 2000GXL Coupe and this thread has reminded me I should get on with fixing it and get some pics up in reader's rides

The guy from a well-known west london engine builders (he told me it was all top secret) was telling me about this engine he was building for a MINI racer that added the turbo to the supercharger. It had cost a fortune to develop, and just the valve to switch between the two was about £1500.
One of the main reasons they'd done it was because the car was used in endurance racing and they'd had turbo failures and supercharger failures so this was actually capable of running on one or the other or both, which I thought was a bit clever.

I understand the regenerative braking thing, but the apart from that it doesn't make sense to me - just from the putting power in and taking power out and the losses you always get I can't see how it can be more efficient than just a lighter car with a very small petrol engine. You've still got to burn a load of petrol and drag around all those batteries, even if you're charging them when you brake Anyone know why it's supposed to be so green?

Got a few ideas brewing along these lines and a couple of good contacts so might be able to get something going, I'll tell you about them at the Ace soon Did start scheming an awesome project on the mag but had to face it was a bit over ambitious with the workload and budget we had Main problem I have here is no way of charging an electric car up as I can't park outside the house - wonder how many people just buy a Prius and run it on petrol the whole time just so they can look right-on?

Saw a RWD Toyota 16-valve fitted to one once, really nice installation, the guy had measured up most of the options and figured the Toyota was best, I think because the sump cleared the chassis. Really good tuneable engine by all accounts, and you can supercharge them Sylva use them in kits, so it must still be possible to find them. Don't know what the weight of it is, mind, but probably much less complication than a K

had a look last night, and my first guess is plug leads, they've been arcing all over the shop. Reckon if it wasn't a twin-spark it wouldn't have been running at all

funnily enough, someone in the Practical Classics parish has just bought one and I've been haring around in it all weekend. It cost a ridiculously small amount of money and should appear in the mag soon enough. It's a 1.8 twin spark, sounds fantastic and goes alright. Torque steers like a loon but the steering's really direct. Loads of fun for the money. I think the V6s are quite hard to find. If you want a cheap V6 get a 164 Our new toy's got a weird stutter every now and then that we're going to try and sort out in the next couple of days. And no doubt it will turn into a world of pain. But right now we all love it...

Del at renospeed is my mate - I used to work on my cars there sometimes in my pre-journo days. the R4 is quite modified - 45 webers on a 1400 gordini lump, r6 sports shocks, van torsion bars and brakes. It looks boggo and goes really very fast indeed We also built a fully coilover-converted 5 Gordini turbo which was pretty cool as well. Ah those were the days...

Mate of mine has built a Gordini Turbo-engined 12 saloon with five-speed from a fuego and water injection. Looks stock, but sits on shorter stiffer coils and wide steels off an 18 (I think). he's also got a normally aspirated gordini R4 that was in Retro. The 12 drives really well, no torque steer, handles great, loads of potential. A few years ago we did some work on the real thing, a 12 Gordini that had the factory engine upgrade to 165bhp, plus cage and rally spec suspension. That was pretty fantastic. Firstly, can we make it quite clear that the views of a couple of members of the PC forum don't represent Practical Classics' editorial stance of the views of most of our readers. The mag has always covered modified classics and even built a few including a V8 TR7 and a race Imp. This isn't an effort to break into any different market or anything - we've just always done it as we think it's part of the scene and because we modify cars ourselves. Ben Field's K-series Midget is top fun and there are a few other projects on the way. The mag is mainly about fixing stuff yourself so that applies to pretty much any project really. Personally it makes me despair when infighting happens because I'm just as into 60s rods, 70s rally tin and bonkers home-brewed specials (one of my all time fave cars is Kawasaki engined Reliant Kitten that was featured in CCC years ago) as I am restored cars. But then I worked in a vintage restoration shop for years and I also don't like to see really original cars hacked about. But the main reason I lurk on this forum is because there's so many great cars on here and people are positive and enthusiastic about them. I don't see the appeal of them all but then I expect there's loads of cars I like that others wouldn't. Sorry for the long post, just getting it off my chest after a frustrating few days...
