Brilliant! Looks to be mostly Cortinas towards the rear, so a bit staged to get all the interesting stuff near the front? Is the dark blue one at bottom right a Taunus coupe, and if so is it the FWD model?

I reckon the Brown one is either an LTD or indeed a Cougar, I don't know where it was taken maybe a german dealer compound, I`d say the silver Capri has a black bonnet as the a-pillars are black suggesting its a RS2600 perhaps...

Yeah I alwyas assumed the Taunus was the equivalent of the Cortina, but this suggests they were sold alongside each other, along with the other Taunus thats a different car in its own right..... weird... The Mk3 style Taunus actually looks to me like a halfway cross between Mk3 and Mk4 Cortinas, (look at the sides of that bronze one near the back of the Mustang, almost looks like a MK4 when you cant see the front) maybe thats what it is?

Yes the Cortina and Taunus had the same basic floorpan and internal design from the Oct 1970 (Mk3s) onwards. The Taunus was a more square rigged car, and so looked more like a Mk4 than a MK3 Cort. This 1970 model Taunus replaced the 12m,15m and 17m ones of the 60s.

From the Mk4's onwards - the Cort and Taun were more or less identical bar the badges.

I think its a picture of the Genk plant in Belgium circa 1971/2. They built Cortinas/Taunus and Transits there, and possibly were a import checking /Euro spec modifying/ CKD assembly plant for US Fords.

The big Taunus's (20m/26m) were replaced in spring 72 with the Consul/Granada and the US cars are definitely 71 or 72 models. The big black 2 dr hardtop behind the maroon Mustang is yet another instance of an LTD!

BTW GM actually had a Belgian plant building up US GM cars from CKD kits. In the 60s and 70s Belgium was the favourite country for all sorts of US firms - from Ford to IBM - to locate to gain access to the 'Common Market'.

You might get a nice surprise on the insurance front with that, (though you must have a traders policy with that lot!) I remember getting a quote on a lhd 2.0V6 Mk1 Capri a few years ago and it was something like £90 unlimited miles, the guy on the phone said it might be because no-one had ever crashed one in this country or something. At the time Mk3 1600 was £675 with same company.

Never occured to me that it could be belgian plant but that it makes a lot of sense come to think of it. The pre Cortina Taunus must have been run out models?
