Get it on a spit! That can't be properly sorted with MOT patches. The plan was to get the thing sorted quickly for the show season, but like you say, it needs sorting properly. So the plan now is to clean up as much of the tar like gunk, and then book it into the Restoration Club in a temporary bay (6 weeks of stripping) Have you given up this? I drove by the NERC the other day, and remembered you saying you were putting it in there, now.

What I don't like about the latest Beetle, as opposed to the one before it, as you can instantly tell it is front engined. The bonnetline gives it away.
The previous one was just a grown up version of the original, and although you know where the engine is, the proportions are bang on.

How's the stripping and de-gunking going? I imagine with the long weekend, that you will be getting stuck in. Remember, this forum basically exists on pictures.

I'd say they are getting there. I sold an RS1600i about 3 years ago, just before they went mental in price (like they always deserved to) and I am about to sell my S2 RST project, and no doubt they will do the same! Nice to see the mk5 XR and RS models getting a bit of love these days, too. I always loved the look of a mk5a XR3i. 90s cars will have their day.

I've taken tomorrow off work, so I can get back to the unit and take some pics. At the same time I hope to investigate the seized engine. I took the spark plugs out and put diesel in the holes to try and free the engine, but its still solid. Cool. Nothing like the fine weather to get the car mojo flowing. I look forward to see what you have been up to/have collected. Get the heed off the engine and see if the pistons have rusted to the bores.

Sorry guys, still at the stage of cleaning the car up, and buying parts, as the more you clean, the more parts you realise you need The previous owners covered everything in black sticky stuff, which in the most part has preserved the bodywork, but also allowed the water to get trapped in bubbles of the stuff, so parts you wouldn't expect to see rust, are actually rusted through. I promise updates from next week though, and maybe updated pics later on tonight if I can find time before Archery practice Update time?

I had my car painted for about £600, last year in base and lacquer. About £200 was the paint, compound etc. It was black to start with and was painted black again (albeit a different code), had zero rust or damage to deal with, aside from some very minor door dings.
I stripped the car and delivered it, took it home and rebuilt it. I also know the lads who painted it, and I spent a week there helping them prep the shell and parts. Constant rubbing down and then wet sanding etc.
I paid very little, but I put a lot of graft in, myself. There is zero over spray, but that is because everything was removed.
IMO it sounds as though you expect the paint shop to strip and rebuild your car as well as prep and paint it? Even if they just mask it all off (I hate that), you are asking a lot for a grand.

This may as well be primer! one fairly large difference, its not primer so it is water proof, primer is porous, so will not protect the steel. Yeah, no sh!t. It looks like some scene gimp just lacquered over grey primer (thus sealing it) is what I meant... It looks rubbish and I cannot believe it is an option.

I've put a 760 turbo red block matted to a m90 in a honda s2000 I unpicked the loom from the volvo it was a right pain but worth the effort it made the transplant a lot easier I did the same with a B230FT when I stuck one in my Volvo 360. The best way to go, no question.

3SGTE, the unloved and unpopular underdog. Fukc knows why. When I rev 3 converted my MR2, I only got £400 for the rev 2 turbo lump, complete with ECU and AFM. Those who know, know, though.

People always rabbit on about BIVA sh!t on here and chase folk away. Let the builder make that decision, and just enjoy the engineering. I'd rather they didn't jeopardise the future of the car modifying hobby further by publically displaying how much they are floating the rules. That may just be me though. Also if it is built well (and depending on the "top" vehicle) they should be able to pass a BIVA. Lash two cars together with little thought to how it will all work and it probably shouldn't come as a surprise that the powers that be don't want it on the road. I agree, but who is to know at times, if they are intending using these cars on the road? People are quick to judge. I actually asked the guy building the Nova/Evo if he is going down that route (but minus the sarcasm and internet expert persona you often see on here) and he said if he puts it on the road, then yes. Fair enough, I say. On with the builds!
