I had similar with a RWD Nissan 200 many years ago, the engine was good but the autobox died so I converted the car to a manual. DVLA weren't interested but my insurers wanted an engineers report as the vehicle was now "heavily modified" - my argument was that it was the same car & engine, with a different factory box but they didn't see it that way (I changed insurers before I insured it...) Insurers are so strange, mine are the opposite of yours, because mine has the correct 5 speed box that the car would have come with from the factory as standard as a manual, they are totally fine with it.

I’ve had my auto box removed from my e30 and a manual box put in on the same engine. I’ve rang my insurance and informed them it’s now a manual. Do I need to change it on my v5 and let the dvla know? Just looked on my v5 and there doesn’t seem to be an option to do this? It’s got make bmw, model 318i auto. On the changes section there’s nothing about gearboxes. Anyone know what I’m meant to do? Change it or leave it as it is?

It's quite a while since I've done an update. There was a hole in the right rear arch, I got my welder friend to sort that for me then used the car for a fair while without touching it. Mot was due September but I put it in a month early, it passed no problem but there was a slight bit of binding on one rear wheel so I got the local garage to sort this for me while it was in for the mot. I ended up getting new liners, shoes and brake pipes on the rear. A problem started over the summer, the speedo needle would work normally then suddenly start jumping up and down. Everyone I spoke to said it would be the wire coming from the speed sensor on the diff, but I checked this and it was fine. I took a gamble and bought a second hand dash unit. I swapped the speedo units over and that fixed it straight away, only problem was my car speedo going from 78k to 100k.

I did eventually get this sorted. Took all 4 wheels off and sent them to the powder coaters. I was going to go for normal grey or silver but all the colours were the same price so I went for a bright orange for something a bit different. Still using the same tyres and the problem is solved. No more leaks at all. I have still got tons of work left converting this to a camper, but that's another story.

A wheel with tyre came up for £15 on eBay, put in a £10 best offer and got it. Went to the fellas workshop to collect it and he asked if I needed another, as he had two. So ended up with a pair of good wheels and tyres for £20.
Now that I have two spare I have enough wheels that I can have the van in use and get two blasted and coated, then when they are done I can get the other 2 done as well.

It is indeed a camper, built from a Citroen relay panel van.
I did mention I had the problem on my e30 too, a reseal cured it, but I've had a few reseals on my camper and the problem keeps coming back.

I had this problem on my e30, my tyres kept going down and needed a removal and reseal. Now I'm having the same problem on my camper van. I've noticed when it's raining, small bubbles where the tyre meets the rim. Over the last couple of years I've had the tyres removed and refitted a few times each, it works for a while then starts to happen again. It was ok during spring, but now the weather is getting warmer the problem is getting worse.
Anyway, I need a long term solution for this, so what I need to know is, what's the best thing to do here? I can't keep going back and back getting them removed and sealed. Would new tyres help? Or do I need new wheels? The rear wheels never have this problem, they keep perfect pressure. Both fronts leak on the rims and go down. Is this because the engine is in the front and there's a lot more weight on the fronts compared to the rears.

1996 Audi A4 avant tdi 1.9. Red i 110bhp model, had it chipped, roughly 135bhp now. Mot till September, 179k miles. Drives spot on, amazing on fuel. Only selling as I have another car now, and I'm struggling for room with 5 vehicles on the drive. It's not as mint as in the picture, has a bit of paint fade, couple of small faults, rear wiper doesn't work, engine temp gauge works 50% of the time. It's been great in the year and a bit I have had it.

I was there a few days ago for the April meet. It was busy, some stunning cars, a really good mix of American and classics. Seems to be a few more peolpe turning up on modern mercs, audis, porsches etc. I don't know why, I think some people think it's a normal cruise, it's always been yanks and classics.
There was a some stupid driving from people leaving, I'm no kill joy, but there's a time and a place for it, doing it on the way out is only going to attract police attention which could spoil what is a very good meet with a nice chilled atmosphere.

I never watched any of this series, but 2 different mates both text me and asked if I'd seen it, I said no, and both said give it a try it's good. I thought I'd give it a go, and I've caught up and watched them all over a few days. Genuinely surprised but I've enjoyed them all, and I'll even say it's better than the grand tour. Leblank is getting better as a presenter, I don't really know who chris Harris is, but I like him, Rory is maybe the only one I'm not 100% sure about, but I think that's they way they have made the show, he seems to be left to one side a bit.

I loved the early wheeler dealers where they had stuff like a Capri and Mk1 golf and they were under £1000. I've learned a lot from watching it over the years, mostly from Ed's mechanical tips and the way explains things in simple terms. The later ones were still ok but not as good, when they started buying expensive cars, it lost the real world charm of the early ones.
I can only see discovery making it even worse. Has anyone watched that street outlaws, it's ridiculous. Fake arguments and people just shouting and screaming. Even the so called illegal races are a joke, on one that was meant to be an illegal road race, you could see it was some old land like an airfield and there was a fast food van parked up just visible in the corner of the screen.

A few things I've found.
Around 12 years ago I bought a scirocco, my mate worked at Halfords and he was good with car hifi and he popped round to help me fit a CD player. He dropped a bit of heat shrink which fell down the side of the passenger seat. I tried to get it with my fingers and felt something like a bit of wood. I pulled it out and it was some sort of home made club weapon. Roughly half the size of a baseball bat, it had a leather handle and the top head of it had about 20 self tapping screws sticking out. It made me wonder what sort of dodgy person had owned the car before me, my brother told me to sell it as it was a local car and someone might think I was someone else and I could get attacked or something, I kept it and no one ever came after me thinking I was a local gangster or anything like that.
A few years ago I bought a Citroen van and kept hearing a rolling and a clunk from under the seats when braking or accelerating hard. I had a look and found a three foot long iron bar. It turned out to be the bottom half of a fire hydrant key. I've still got it here, but wonder it it was used as a weapon by someone.
Most recently I bought my e30 from my lasses family after her dad passed away. I had looked in the boot when I viewed it and seen a few bits of interior plastic and an old motorbike helmet. When I got it home and looked properly, I found all sorts. A brand new cordless drill. The old helmet plus 2 more helmets, turned out one was brand new and cost £450. Loads of mini discs and a good cannon digital camera. The brand new helmet fits my lass perfectly and she rides bikes so she's using it. I found a nice pair of alpinestars boots which fit me too.

I've just done a 1996 A4 B5 avant, it is too early to be mapped via a plug in cable, so yours will be the same I'd think. Usually with 80s and early A4s they need chipped instead. I was getting quotes of £300 to get a chip swap. They are soldered in so need to be done by someone who knows what they are doing. I imported my own chip from the Czech Republic for £30 and then paid £25 to have it fitted. Tell me more about these chips where do I get them from and who can I get to fit it. Peterborough area Mine came from an eBay seller, it's made by powerchips in the Czech Republic. I spent weeks searching and this is the only one I could find anywhere in the world. There are plenty of plug in type power boxes on eBay but everyone on the Audi forum told me to avoid these, all they do is fool the ecu into sending more fuel in which gives only small gain and throws tons of black smoke out. I got lucky and someone local put me in touch with Form automotive who are an hour from me in West Yorkshire who charged a very reasonable £25 to remove my ecu from the car, pull my ecu apart, unsolder the existing chip and solder in the new one. It took about one hour to do. I think I was lucky to get it done at such a good price. Also on my 1996 A4 there are a few different chips, so I had to pull the ecu apart, write down the chip numbers, and email the fella in the Czech Republic so he could match it with his numbers and send me the correct chips. I've took a screen shot of the sellers name if you want to contact him. Also just as an example I've took a shot of all the chip codes just to show you how many there can be just for the AFN engine in my car. To be honest it was a fair amount of hassle, finding someone who had a chip for my car, then getting it shipped over and fitted, but it was so worth it, best £55 I've ever spent and it's made a big difference to my car.
