Could I map my Audi 80 or is it too old? I've just done a 1996 A4 B5 avant, it is too early to be mapped via a plug in cable, so yours will be the same I'd think. Usually with 80s and early A4s they need chipped instead. I was getting quotes of £300 to get a chip swap. They are soldered in so need to be done by someone who knows what they are doing. I imported my own chip from the Czech Republic for £30 and then paid £25 to have it fitted.

I don't think we will ever see a person win at world level on both two and four wheels ever again, RIP.

Of the 5 tyres, 2 were staying up as they should. I had a bit of spare time this morning so put the other 3 in the boot of my Audi and took them to a tyre place. Turns out all 3 had different problems. 1 needed a new valve, I did expect this after remembering one of the valves making a hissing sound. Another 1 needed removing, a clean up and refit. The other 1 was badly damaged on the inside wall, so I got a tyre fitted. Came at £30 for a part worn tyre, a clean and refit and a valve, not too bad in the end.

Yeah jaykay that might be a good idea too, it probably won't be much to have them swapped.

I'm just looking on Halfords site, I think I'll pop down at the weekend at get the tool and a set of valves.
I do feel a bit silly now, I knew that valve was leaking, and I just flicked and wiggled it and when it stopped I assumed it would be ok.

Now you've mentioned the valve, this has jogged my memory. A while ago when I first picked up the wheels and blew them up, I could hear a hissing and it was coming from the valve, I poked the centre pin bit a couple of times and it stopped. I never thought any more of it. I just thought the pin was sticking. Now I'm wondering if this has caused the problem.

I'm on another 11 days in a row so no time to drive the car, popped my head down the drive and 3 of the tyres have stayed up. So there's only 1 on the car and the spare that keep going down. I do need to check the dates, I know how to do it on motorcycle tyres, but I'm not sure on how on car tyres.

you're going to the wrong places for tyre mingebaggery! What sort of money per wheel should I be paying for a tyre removal, clean up and re fit?

Another issue I have is that I'm not massively keen on the bottle top wheels that are on it. I want to get some correct e30 bbs 15s for it. So I don't really want to fork out loads of money sorting these ones out. It'll be £100 or more for powder coating, and I bet it's at least £10 a wheel to get the tyres off and have them cleaned and refitted. Even just getting the tyres took on and off, that could be £40/50 towards the wheels I want. I need to look at both sets of tyres and see which are best. I know the car was stood on the steels for a couple of months while my lasses dad was ill in hospital, and they held their pressure fine, so they might be best to use while I find some wheels I like.

look at the sidewall for the date code. anything older than 5-6 years is bin fodder. I'll do that next weekend, if they are very old I might put the steels back on.

I don't know how old the tyres are but it sounds a good idea to take them to a garage and get them removed and refitted.

Someone taking out your valve cores? When I took the wheel off the car, it blew up ok, it just wouldn't blow up with it being flat and the weight of the car squashing it which is strange.

I went to take the e30 out Saturday, the front left tyre was flat to the floor. I got my compressor out, tried to blow it up, nothing was happening, it was like the air was going in and going straight back out. I jacked up and the car and put the spare on, and off I went.
Now today I was off work and had to go out, I did a quick visual check to make sure all the tyres were ok and I popped out to the opticians, and then came back home. An hour later I went to go back out again and as I went to reverse off the drive the car felt very hard to move. I got out and checked my tyres, just like at the weekend, another tyre was totally flat to the floor. It was fine an hour earlier.
What's going on here? I'm really confused. I should mention these alloy wheels and tyres were the original ones from the car but they were in a lock up and the car had steels on so they may have been stood for some time.

A car parked on full lock with a removable steering wheel is a great option. Is it expensive for clip off wheel?

I used to have one of those disc locks, but I gave it away. I seen a video example of an ex professional thief and he could open one in 5 seconds, scarey stuff. I quite like the idea of a post on the driveway, and an immobiliser.
I have done loads of stuff to stop anyone getting at my motorcycles but the downside is it takes me about half an hour to get a bike out now if I fancy a ride.

I follow a lot of Facebook car pages and the amount of older cars being stolen is worrying. A lot seem to be stolen by gangs, and towed away. I'm starting to think of ways to make my car as hard as possible to steal. There's a lot of expensive old fords and vws going missing, whilst at the moment I don't think my e30 would be a target, it does worry me as they are slowly becoming rarer and prices are going up which may eventually make it a target.
Overnight my company van blocks it in but during the day it's sat on the drive. I'm thinking about two things, one, something like a wheel clamp to stop anyone dragging it off the drive and onto a low loader, and two, something to stop to being started.
My lass has an e36 and on that it has a coded key and the car won't start without it. As far as I'm aware my older e30 just has a plain key which means it has the potential to be hotwired. I'm thinking either get an immobiliser or make my own hidden switch so that car won't start without it being activated.
Has anyone got any thoughts on my ideas and theft prevention in general?

Looks far far better on those alloys. What's next? There's a little bit of rot on the rear inner arch, first on my list is to get that welded up. Then I want to get all the tiny bits of rust on the outer body sorted out. After that I'm not sure, I had thought about getting a manual box and long term a 6 cylinder engine. But I actually really enjoyed driving as it is. It's not fast but it cruises round nicely.

I love scalextric, it's a fantastic toy. I also love model railways too. Apart from a small minority of kids I feel it's lost on today's youngsters, all they want is electronic tablet type gadgets. I'm in the middle of making my loft into a man cave. I want to keep a few bmx bikes up there. Then one half will be N gauge railway and the other half will be a scalextric layout. I'm wondering whether to sell some track, I've got more than I could ever use and I could buy some more cars with them money. I have a small track built, I'll put some pics up soon.
