Just a note to help you out with adjusting the windows in the future, In your last picture with the 5.5mm spanner in the door did you notice the rubber bung ? Well to make things easier remove the outer lower door trim, then remove the bung and you can adjust the windows to sit perfectly with the door closed from the outside 😉

I did my apprenticeships at 4 point garage in Feltham, so happens it was a Ford Dealership, I remember changing a lot of diaphragms on the side of vv carbs, they used to go wrong when the cars were new and newish, easy job to do and you might find the part available, good luck!

I too am having this problem I have a 1.3 with a straight through 2 inch exhaust and a scorpion motorcycle back box and it's loud, on the motorway the drone is horrible and of ear bleeding proportions I have a plan I don't mind it being loud but the motorway thing has to change so I'm going to build a hertz holme resonator which should stop the drone. Plan B is a power flow back box but thats 120 quid and ill lose the lovley rolled tip on the bike silencer. Dan You could cut off the tip and weld on the one you like, But make sure the silencer is what you want first, I used to make exhaust systems and the larger the box the quieter it should be, I have a j reg Peugeot 106 it only has one back box no cat (standard) and the original rear box died so I replaced it with a standard Box from Euro car parts, it wasn't the same as the original one had a internal pipe that looped around inside and the replacement goes straight through, it now sound like a mk1 escort 🤣

Anorak Alert! The tailgate rust is due to electrolysis, I used to do a lot of heated rear window removals on these under warranty when they were newish, VW had a modified window to replace the original one's after the rust was treated, The original heated rear windows had a heated element that was very low which caused the electrolysis and rust, The later modified window didn't have the low heated element thus stopping the rust,
