In retrospect I would have waited a bit longer, and found a four seater W140 with V8 or V12. How much worse can fuel consumption be? I imagine the V12 would be a financial nightmare from parts alone. The V8 is probably more sensible in that regard, but they just can't be as well balanced as straight-6 or V12s; I feel like V8s don't really go with the spirit of a LWB S-Class. In terms of engines alone, the M104 is the best you could get for a daily imo, especially since the S350 OM603 is a headache and some... There's also a fair bit of aftermarket support if you ever want to dive into performance mods for your M104 or your W126's M103.

I've been looking at W220s but most seem to have terrible rust issues, caused by the introduction of water based paint technology I've been told. Some say it's also because of the construction of the car itself, the different metals react with each other and end up accelerating corrosion, I can't confirm how true this statement is though. Regardless, W220s are rust buckets. This S320 is seriously clean though, congrats Onne!

Why is the engine dying? once running they don't need any electrical/VAC interference?!! Fuel blockage/leakage? A few new leaks at the injector return lines popped up, which were caused by a clot in the system along with a clogged fuel filter; leading to some occasional harsh running. It seemed the prefilter I had just installed was also already clogged up and didn't flow anymore. That's why it stalled a few times on me when idling. Currently, everything is working more or less as it should- bar HVAC which I disabled entirely due to the electrical problem in that system. Cheers!

That's a rough one. If it snapped in the first place it means the remaining bit is seized. In these cases you heat cycle the area, fast heat shocks and impacts are the most effective but in your situation and since there's thread locker here, it could be a lost cause. If you can get the remaining bit unseized, you might be able to thread it out with a punch and hammer though. If not, I would go to the drill, tap and helicoil fix... That is if you can get your hands on a tap and die set on the cheap, and it will be a long and sweaty job too. If you find a junk part on the cheap it could be worth going straight to that depending on the turn of events.
Best of luck.

About 600 Km of driving in and around Paris in the Turbo this weekend, lots of little issues popped up, but nothing to leave me completely stranded so far. ^ On the Cours de Vincennes^ One Little Bird Left rear position bulb is dead, a few new leaks at the injector return lines popped up, which were caused by a clot in the system along with a clogged fuel filter; leading to some occasional harsh running. Lastly, the alternator's voltage regulator is dead so it isn't charging enough for night driving with headlamps and other accessories on. (Or so I thought, it seems the charging system is working exactly as it should, but I have a major short in the HVAC system, in addition to the burnt card for the controls. Fuse is out for now.) The cocktail of the last two problems turned into a couple dead batteries and engine dying on me when I had to come to a stop, once before dropping off my bird, forcing us to my place because she wasn't allowed home anymore, and another the next day right outside of her place after I dropped her off. This car has jokes man.

Picked up my new 124.133 yesterday! The trip home was a little more work than anticipated, stopped dry about 2km out of the seller's house near Laon, in the North of France at 10 at night. Like my previous car, the sensor of the fuel sending unit doesn't go down to the bottom, and there was a pretty serious leak at the fuel warmer so we didn't realize it was bone dry. Having the experience of running dry (in the same region too) with my last 124.133, I shut it down immediately to avoid getting too much air in the system. The seller brought me a jerry can and a fresh rag, I bypassed the fuel warmer, cleaned out the prefilter on the spot and added fuel, all better. The drive home was very uneventful, got tagged by a mobile speed trap doing 100km/h in a 90km/h zone, just after a 110km/h section. The coppers will learn eventually. I then proceeded to race a Golf and watch my rearview mirror while going a certain speed on the highway. About 10km from my home in Meaux, an electrical short sprung up near the HVAC controls and I stupidly shut down the car when I should just have rushed home, disconnected the battery and called it a night, better safe than sorry I guess. The short sucked the battery dry so I wasn't able to start it up again. I went home in my mother's car to grab jumper cables, went back to the Merc and rushed it home. Everything going for the better this morning! Up bright and early to start the work: I have a love affair with 124 rear suspension... Some of it is a bit crusty, nothing that can't be fixed yet.

I do love these and I have been looking at them more often! Was an RRer selling this? FWIW I've tried the following on the headlamp revival techniques -G3 -Toothpaste -Megs kit Out of the lot the Meguiars kit shifted the stuff the best and left the lamps looking nearly new. The others did work but not that well and they took an absolute age! That was on a Renault Clio. The only thing is that you will need something to seal them up. That could be an amazing polish or a UV resistant coating you can buy off eBay. Best of luck with the car The 3M headlight restoration kit does wonders if you need more hardcore products. If not, all you need is a medium for cleaning and lubrication (WD40 if greasy, but mostly water and soft solvents), some white stone for abrasive or cutting compound if you already have detailing products and a microfiber cutting pad or MF sponge (something puffy with fine strands, heck even a normal Terry bathroom towel will work). Try it, it works so well you'll be ass down in shock. Happy restoring!

Tints need to go for me as well. I hope there aren't any nasty surprises lurking under those scabs. It's a real shame these rusted so badly although most of the ones that you still see running around seem to be in pretty good nick. Best of luck. I might consider losing the front tints, but I'm leaning towards leaving the rear ones. Quite like them. Really you should lose all tint and get a Rayban Classic G-15 style 80 - 70% green tint for the rears. It's the factory MB color. Should be a pretty cheap and easy affair! I think you'll love the result. Wheels will be a quick fix too! Consider getting new tires though, you'll have much better performane. This is a bit more $$$ involved though. Keep on Ballin'!

I know, it's the only one I've seen in months in my area for under 2k€. Was a bit of a struggle to find her. The car is very rough on the outside but mechanically - oh my god. I've never seen anything like it. Injectors don't rattle, lifters are dead silent, not a speck of blowby, box selector is tight af, brand new blower motor, windscreen wiper motor... She's been taken good care of. Voltage regulator needs replacing, interior dash lights don't work (as usual) and one of the exhaust hangers is shot. That's it. Even the headliner is sticking up there, and the frame is dry as a bone! Car currently sits in a very dusty, dry environment so I attribute the remarkable lack of rust to that. Here's the bombshell though:WDB1241331B 979096illuminatiShe's a June of 1993 girl, the very last month they made the series two. This car is likely one of the last thousand 300 Turbo sedans built before the E-class facelift, maybe even less. Snatched it for 900€ and got a set of 10 spoke pentastars in the deal, the shameful late AMG imitation kind of alloys, but they have potential for a quick dressup and flip. Let me know if you have any leads on R129 8 holes by the way haha. I'll be getting it Wednesday this week, call me giddy Cheers mate!

Hey! Jan?
We're missing your fully mechanically processed diesel fuel shot. I can't stay sober much longer.. I. can't...
... bought another 603 turbo. Do you see what you do to me, Jan...
There's a couple easter eggs on my first post on RR, one of them is about you haha. The post itself is just story time though, nothing about the car yet.
Cheers!

Hello, and welcome to the thread! This is my first dive into the writing side of what we have going on at RR, the content may be slightly awkward while I get comfortable Cheers!
You may be expecting by the title to find plenty about my new W124, eventually this is what this thread will be about, but I'll be sharing a bit of a story for now, for as much as you can bear at least. I'll probably kill you dry. On a serious note, the '93 should be coming soon. Here we go: Time is mid-April of 2016, we're having two weeks of gorgeous weather here in the Paris area. As is usual with me and good weather, I get a sudden rush of energy, happiness and forward thinking that I still can't control properly. Daily fresh air biking at the park, good food, and the fiber guys just installed a Gigabit connection for my home in Meaux. TL, DR: life is good, things are looking up again. At the time, I had been on the lookout for a cheap daily since I had crashed my mom's car the previous Summer. I just wanted something of my own, no strings attached, and no reason to force me back home if I didn't need to. (To be continued...) The mom mobile was an '06 Citroën Xsara Picasso "Collection", with a healthy 80KW (110hp) 1.6L 16V TU5 JP4 engine and about 85k km on the Odo. I was on my way back from a friend's at 2 in the morning, perhaps after having a bit of his fresh garden tomatoes, on a small deserted country road. Get the references? Cookies on m Life was good back then too: ^ Trusty sister's Fiancé and Sister in Paris, they're ballers.^ That friend's place, it's his Pap's place. They have chicken. They're ballers too. ^ The Picasso at that friend's place. That bump on the wing wasn't me... SEE, THEY HAVE CHICKEN!!1!11eleven <3UJanThe previous night's cargo ^ There goes gravity. Brakes were already fading, tires still cold, road still greasy from the previous day...
^ The road (D22 between Brumetz and Chézy-en-Orxois) Going too fast for the grip I had, I essentially slid my way along the grove into a ditch. The actual impacts were probably similar to a 20km/h crash, and the damage reflected that. The left side of the car was scratched to death, wing mirror ripped off but the body was only lightly bent in. Gravity pulling me into a ditch and trees slowing me down on the left side lead to a pretty baller four wheel skid in retrospect. My admittedly bumpy landing ended as I ran over a tree (RIP), and in the process killed the bumper, hood, right headlight mount, AC condenser, radiator and front core support. I guess I wouldn't make a great airplane pilot... Everything else though (including myself): like new! This accident - we've had a few between my sister and I at this point - was very undramatic. Insurance expert came over in a couple days, appraised the car at 5,500€, estimated the repairs at 10,000€, wrote off the car, sent us some cash. As a replacement, my mother got the same car, just as clean inside, with even less mileage and a new exhaust, and all accounted for about 300€ to spare. Insurance didn't increase thanks to the star she had earned, and we only had a bit of road to fetch the new car. With my newest experience, I can look back at this one and say: "Ez." I get the 7 digits from your mother for a dollar tomorrow. It was basically that easy. I digress, back to April 2016... ...In a next post. It's late, I have ADD, I'm out of green, I'm lazy, and I'm making excuses. Apologies, more soon.
Cheers, beers, dough, blow, Clem.
