We have the same taste in cars, love them all! You certainly command my respect for saving the s124 from certain death- twice over with both the accident and rust damage. Even I would likely have thrown the towel and parted it despite how much it pains me to see one getting scrapped. As far as I know 10J rears were only ever fitted to widebody coupes when it comes to 124s. For touring and sedans I know of two 17" AMG 3 piece: B6 6 02 0061 (8J ET30) and B6 6 02 0062 (8.5J ET30). I read on an old forum post that they came staggered 8J front, 8.5J rear, however I doubt this is correct because the 8J wheel actually has a deeper dish than the 8.5J, being constructed with a 6.5" inner rim and a 1.5" outer, while the 8.5J is a 7.5" inner 1" outer. There's also plenty of documentation suggesting 8.5Js were installed all around after merger. www.w-124.info/w124/AMG_brochure.pdfwww.w-124.info/w124/jantesw124.jpg8Js are basically unobtainium at this point, and there's very little info about them. My theory is those are what AMG used before any distributor agreement being a closer spec to the 17" Aero 1 monoblock for w124s that existed alongside. I imagine AMG had some stock left and MB gave them a B6 PN when integrating them. Best of luck, I will follow the journey!

Funnily enough, I had my ignition tumbler fail in the exact same circumstance as you, after spraying a bit of lube in it. The key difference is that I refused to accept I'd have to take it out the way you've had to, so instead spent at least an hour messing with the key to get it to turn over, with success! The more I used it, the better it worked as well, and I've since been confident (aka irresponsible) enough to continue using said tumbler without a hint of worry. Cheers

Intercoolers are one of the hardest things to fit in a W124 imo, Turbobandit sell the biggest ICs that I know of that fit between the headlights but you still need to cut a good 3-5cm into the crossmember and delete A/C. I may just try water/meth injection for mine instead!
Cheers, keep em rolling!

Hmm, if charging system related check all leads and body grounds (if your engine mounts are shot they can vibrate loose), oil on the alternator contacts & brushes, battery last. Good luck, let us know if you can't figure out wa goin on. We're here

I wan't sure how to approach the rest of my little story, I think pictures will speak stronger than words this time. Might explain in greater detail later, should be quite self-explanatory. My '91 300D Turbo <3 511000 KmAccident was a painful frontal with a middle aged woman who took the highway in the wrong direction. *Clears throat* So now you're here? Eazy... _ O partigiano, portami via, Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao! O partigiano, portami via, Ché mi sento di morir. <3

You won't be alone with sh!t paint if you come as is don't worry Wet vac is definitely more rewarding imo, just don't let it get too humid inside or it might drop the headliner. Dashboard is quite a job in W124s... Get everything clear (center console, foot mats/rests, seats might make it easier too), the dash is under all that and more (instruments, front speakers, glovebox etc). Good luck!

Thank you! I will indeed have to take out the gas tank and clean everything thoroughly, should fix both my sending unit issues (guage) and fuel crud. The idea of a 116 was to have a big lofty barge with thick leather seats and a newer, more refined drivetrain but I do expect more cabin noise and obviously less high speed aero than the 124. I also have a fair bit of experience with 124s specifically that I don't have with older Mercs. Something about it tickles my fancy anyway though. Turbo 605 is definitely a ride, I'd go slushbox if I were you since w124s aren't really small cars in the grand auto world, and the manuals are a little weaker. Would make a very fun slide machine in manual anyway

Question time! Sorry for the few and far between updates, the car mostly sat this winter, which I know is the worst thing to do to these cars, but she held up okay. Time to get back to work. I have two main options: 1. Get everything nice, original, in great shape, -includes rear suspension, shocks and brakes all around, rear springs, 4 new tires and injectors/injection pump seals and all the regular w124 and 603 turbo sh!t- -mild turbo bump (wastegate to ~1.5 bar + ALDA tweak) - future: intercoolers and/or water/meth injection 2. Yank the drivetrain out of the 124, stuff it into a W116, junk the w124 shell - future: try a w124 rear subframe mod into the w116. 3 ish. (labor intensive) Sell the w124 on (as is or with the work done?) and buy a 1991 or earlier gasoline 3L sedan (300E/300E-24), and Turrbooo with 722.6. Thoughts, thoughts, thoughts & opinions, show me what you got! I'll try to finish up the story too, it's still somewhat ongoing though, no promises! Cheers

Best of luck with the little niggles, they're the most time consuming but really make all the difference. Mine has some ways to go too :3 You're coming to Laon from the Eurotunnel? Might go myself depending on the turn of events, I did purchase my car there after all ! Cheers

I love how these cars always throw something at you once you've accomplished some work on them. A job like your suspension rebuild where you left absolutely nothing to luck just shouldn't be returned with a cracked oil pan, that's simply cruel! Amazing work there Jan, your taxi definitely earned the love too!

Try one of the Autodoc gmbh websites, they seem to have the biggest variety of parts, if not go to MB directly, they actually have fair pricing for most upkeep parts.
I got a big coolant leak at my passenger heater core, that's a bit of a bigger undertaking, probably just gonna close the loop for the summer...

Ooohh, aftermarket support for the M104? What sort of things are we talking? Turbobandit has almost everything in stock for a 400+ hp turbo setup with either an M103 or M104, the process might be a little bumpy with a W140 due to its electronics but I'm sure it can work with a bit of research. Some of what they offer can be on the expensive side and can probably be sourced elsewhere but their turbo collectors are absolutely divine, I wouldn't go with anything else. VEMS seem to be a popular option for engine management, they're one of the cheapest in the industry and their hardware is state of the art. With an E85 map you could then have a 400hp car that's cheaper on fuel than in stock form, and with proper supporting mods the M103 and M104 can very reliably make the power on stock internals. It's an involved process regardless, but a very cool option in my book
