Having gone from 1988 to 2014 without owning a Mercedes, I've had a couple of them in the last three years. Firstly, a CL500.... ...and then an S320... I loved both of them. Loved how well put together they were. Loved the engines. Loved the comfort and kit. And regretted selling both once they weren't on the drive. So, as difficult a decision it has been to move the Maxima on, I decided to buy this beast of a car..... 1999 E55 AMG 161k miles 5.4 litre V8 I got it yesterday evening, and drove 50 miles to work and back today. Christ on a bike. Scalded cat or what!! A few pics after it's first wash.. It's got the usual W210 bodywork issues. Needs a bit of welding to the sills, and most panels have a bit of rust. All this will be taken care of, as my plan is to mint this one up, and keep it that way. More info in subsequent posts. Bit short of time tonight.

Whether you believe you can, or you cannot, you're probably right.

I don’t know if this is of any help however I have a w210 3.0TD in the drive, I’m robbing the engine and box out of it – the rest will be scrapped.
The body etc are in good nick for a w210 – do you want any bits?!

buuut whaddabout the Stanza? Is that still cooking?
So, just to get it right, you are selling the Maxima to do the Stanza up....and bought a E55... Yep, that makes completely sense to most of us car enthusiasts!!
I am convinced that this Merc will get the same love as all your cars and it will be better than it ever was in no time!!

Yep, that makes completely sense to most of us car enthusiasts!! I am convinced that this Merc will get the same love as all your cars and it will be better than it ever was in no time!! Let's make a little sense out of this haha.... The Discovery is used by Julie mostly as the family bus and towing car. Hands up, I admit to actually liking driving it. The Corolla has been bought for my son when he passes his test. The Saab 9-5 is going nowhere for sentimental reasons to do with my late father-in-law. It's a lovely daily driver, which hides it's 20 years very well (I guess the fact that it's only done 66k helps). The Stanza is tucked away somewhere needing sills, a sprayjob and a few other smaller things. That's a keeper after hunting for 25 years for another one. 34 years old ond only 55k miles, plus the biggest file of history I've ever seen. So that leaves the Maxima. I love that car, but I have no sentimental attachment for it like I do with the Stanza. I guess, once I finally bagged the Stanza, the Maxima's fate was sealed, especially when considering my recent yearning for something a bit more, erm, shouty. I'll still have my proper retro, Datsun/Nissan love affair satisfied with the Stanza, so unfortunately the J30 is the one that has to find a new home..."so they all rolled over and one fell out!" Thanks for the kind words everyone. Looking forward to getting the E55 fixed up, sorted and gleaming again. As well as the Stanza!

They just have a standard avantgarde grille. Don't go looking for any con artist trying to sell an AMG grille for more cash.

Stupendous buy. Having had one of these early last year I can confirm they're indecently quick things as standard. I found mine surprisingly nimble all things considered, and the flickering traction control light when you kick-down around 60mph never fails to amuse...
I was actually battling myself over whether or not to bid on that very eBay auction back in March so it almost ended up in Teesside a few months earlier. Will be sure to kick myself if I see it about.

You're more than welcome to pop down to Skelton/Saltburn for a cuppa and a look round it whenever you fancy. Just drop me a message.

Glad you got this, knowing you this is going to end up a cracker! I was tempted by this but have just bought another Corrado VR6 to do up. Book marked and look forward to the progress.
Don't forget some videos capturing the lovely noise! Never get old hearing them!
