Yes look forward to it. It’s been a long day. Got up early to collect the transporter. I’ve hired it as I thought it would protect the car better than my rather small trailer. Also less faffing than a trailer and has a large electric winch. So loading was easy. Shame it is disgustingly filthy inside. I resorted to sitting on a towel and wearing gloves as the seat, steering wheel and gear lever are covered in grime. Most unpleasant. Still it runs ok and got me to the show on time. Car now on the stand. Some photos. For a minute I thought it might be the same one but it must just be a recurring theme with these, I had the same issue with one I hired to get a car from Scotland... was disgusting! Looking forward to seeing the car at the show, another build I've followed for a long time so will be nice to see it in person.

I'm still not convinced, Abarth logo is a scorpion and am pretty sure it always has been.

So planning for the restoration show this weekend is in full swing. Lots to see and do over the 2 days I'm there including catching up with a few folk and saying hello to new faces from this parish - @grumpynorthener especially. (Fear not Chris the barn finds bit has been highlighted too now! ) The Celica won't be appearing this year, instead I am taking with me a pile of spares to help out some other owners, fingers crossed I may come back with a couple of bits in return One of the more unwieldy bits going is the rear section of my spares car from Scotland that its previous owner needs some bits from As I still need part of this myself it's going to be a case of grinding and cutting in the dark one evening after work this week so we both have what we need (and I can fit it in the car!). There has also been a brief bit of Celica progress, having cleaned the lenses up while recovering from my op last year, I decided to make a start on the front fog lamps. Suffice to say that being low on the front of the car they see a fair bit of 'action' and having also been 'tampered' with in the past they are a bit rough! Unfortunately they are rather pitted and in some areas a little Swiss cheese like so will need to keep an eye out for replacements if possible or come up with a way of bringing them back to life. Might be time to test out the electrolysis bath approach that I've heard so much about. As for last weekends distraction, t'was a trip down to a rather snowy New Forest where I was needed to tow the in-laws caravan home, despite the hindrance of the snow it all looked rather beautiful... ahem, I meant this... Oh and just to keep with a growing tradition in this thread, there was quick visit to the local brewery... No pictures but I can highly recommend the tour and sampling session at Ringwood Brewery More after the NEC...

Very jealous of the trailer - wish mine was a covered version like that, issue is always where to store the things though! In other news I've started the planning for the weekend, you'll be pleased to know you have the honour of being highlighted for a visit

He's back! Glad to hear you've recovered and normal service has resumed - doesn't sound much fun at all. I'd best not show SWMBO your last update - she'll want a certain plate like you've found for her four legged friend!

A short and sweet update due to more snatched time away from the ongoing house saga over the weekend. The next couple of weekends are looking full for one reason or another, so there won't be any play time on the actual car. However, on a positive note, the weekend after next has been set aside for a visit to the NEC restoration show so it's not all bad. Ahead of this I thought I'd better quickly remind myself what spares I currently have and what I still need to find. Best start with opening the treasure trove that is the boot to see what lurked within... Is it wrong that all I can see in that pic are the words 'Large Onions' . Interestingly while having a sort and a rummage through I came across a fairly large pile of nuts so I suspect I have had, or have a resident. Think I need to kick the A35 out and get the car back into the workshop. The long shot was that asides from a few badges and the usual up-rated parts that I have on my radar, I have most of what I need for now. I did however dig out the front indicators to remind myself of their issues: Here's what I currently have: Out of that little lot , you can see I have one usable bracket and one decent housing, the rest are sadly broken in one way or another but may be salvageable in the right hands. Anyone know a good place for welding in the South East that might be able to assist in stitching them back together? Other suggestions very welcome! There are also a few irons in the fire on some other interesting parts, rather than jinx them however, expect another update post-NEC

Bookmarked, and looking forward to this one whenever it does happen.
In the meantime I will certainly have a nosey at the NEC. I was supposed to have my 'barn' (it was a garage) find Celica at the NEC too but logistics and other commitments mean it is staying at home this year.
Will make sure I come and say hello at somepoint.

Very jealous of your progress with this, also thanks for the tips on Secret Factory and Yahoo Japan - having a battle getting bits for my piece of Japanese oddity and so any new approaches are welcome. Fourways are also only up the road from me so may have to go chat with them just in case they can source Toyota parts.
Out of interest what size wheels and tyres do you currently have? I have similar Wantanabes but I think mine are a little under-tyred and not as deep in the dish department.

I love this car! 15.8mpg on the Disco though?? Makes my S4 look positively economical! Thanks, plenty more to come soon hopefully. Well it is a V8 and I may have been having some fun in the snow, usually it's around 22-26. Being LPG too it works out cheaper to run than my old BMW given it's really only a weekend toy.

Sure there's a smart anecdote about wars keeping folk in business long after they've finished... alas I can't think of anything right now.
Amazing how pleasing some simple pieces look, must be even better if you're the one who's made them.
