Thanks for replying all Dorset_Clive, I put a tape measure next to it, units seem to be just that, but it must be quite old, even if its origins aren't war, I would expect it to be imperial, or degrees? braaap, pics of it extended, the vertical movement takes the'hook' with it, which has 2 holes in it, the vertical movement actually hits its adjustment wheel wound right back

Morning all. Found amongst my late grandads stuff. I've absolutely no idea what this is, and so far neither has anyone else who's seen it Teaspoon for scale, it's approximately 12cm x 12cm, solid brass, fairly heavy and extremely well made. There's zero backlash on the vertical movement, and very little on the horizontal. I'm thinking it's some kind of sighting measurement or adjustment, but even a tank museum who've seen it couldn't relate it to anything they knew. It's been suggested that it's aircraft, but I think it's too heavy. Bit of background - my grandad was an old-school engineer, and although he'd have had the skill to make this he wouldn't have had the equipment. He served in the engine room of a minesweeper off the east coast during the first world war, and head of maintenance for st.albans city hospital during the second. Anyone got any ideas? TIA Mods- please remove if you feel it's not relevant

If you can get a bearing out reasonably complete, do you have a local bearing and seal supplier that you can take it to and get them to match it? Usually cheaper than buying the specific manufacturers parts too

Don't know about your particular car, but on some earlier abs systems , IE range rover classic, the abs unit itself can get an airlock in it and they're an absolute pig to get bled properly. Are there any bleed screws on the abs unit itself? I'd start there and see if you can get fluid through the block. Good luck

A quick Google finds absolutely loads of people having the same problems, apparently one seller has even accepted the fact that he'll get at least 30% of southern Ireland parcels returned! No wonder people say how expensive cars and parts are out there, it's a shame

Not sure where this qualifies on the "bodge" scale in respect of awful or epic? Kudos that they seemingly have tried to keep a fused link(but then not sure the 'bung' isn't a wire link🤔)...Amusingly I don't have any glass fuses to hand so it can stay there a couple of days long Well it's better than the redneck hunter Darwin awards candidate who replaced a constantly blowing fuse on his geriatric pickup truck with a.22 bullet Yes, he shot himself

Spot on igor, we need fewer cars, not different cars. Maybe an alternative of an efficient and cheap public transport system that went to places people wished to go would be a start... Irony at its best, anyone else see the news article about the northern mayors missing a conference about the poor state of the rail network because their train was cancelled??🙄

Definitely think you're right getting the car running factory first, then scour the 'spares or repair' listings and see what catches your eye. Always found conversion far easier with a complete car as a doner, saves hours and £££ in the stupid little bits you didn't get with the engine Ask me how I know.....🙄

I would expect the pipe to be at least partially filled, even giving consideration to the click-off of the nozzle for backing up. Of course, you found out that the pipe is leaking by filling up, so by the time you've got the part and started working on it, it may not be.
Just as an aside, be VERY careful working on the fuel system, particularly if you're inside. I knew of someone who was draining a fuel system in a garage, and had just about finished draining, with the garage full of fumes, when his central heating boiler cut in He died. Apologies if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs.

May not be suitable for your application, but I've previously wired glowplugs through a pushbutton and an old style starter solenoid, the ones for the inertia starter motors. It means you can have the glowplugs on for as long as YOU want, not be restricted by an electronic gizmo. Worked well for me for the last few years

I think I'd go with the email, and point out that the screen is readily available from other sources. Iirc they can point you in the direction of their ' approved ' repairers, but can't actually force you to use them Of course I could be lying, and also you may be into the territory where you have to pay and claim back, which can be a nightmare

Firenzas to Firenze - I like the sound of that! Only about 1000 miles each way - when's the anniversery of it's launch? 50th next year, I think, for the HP (Droopsnoot) Firenza. First shown at the 1973 Motor Show. Not sure I'll be brave enough by then. WCPGW??? 😃
