I recently had some radiator hoses that were in reasonable condition, but were full of rusty flakes/sludge which were stuck to the inside and could not be scraped off. Rather than chuck them I had a go at dunking in citric acid (2 tablespoon/litre roughly) and over a week or so most of the muck was softened enough that running a water blaster through them cleaned everything up really well. Didn't appear to have any effect on the rubber hoses which surprised me. Citric acid is great stuff.

I second that. Sid has contributed at least as much oversight to this project as any fluro vest/hard hat wearing, carrying clipboard management type would in any other industry. Oops I think I may be ranting...

Sid is squinting a bit. Clearly has been welding without a helmet. Can't deny the evidence.

The city where I grew up/live near had a pretty big earthquake a few years ago, many buildings in the cbd fell down/got bowled over. It amazes me now when I drive around how unfamiliar it looks and how I am almost lost with the lack of landmarks that I didn't even realise were landmarks, but now that they are gone it's obvious I used them to find my way around! None of them were roadside icons as such but wow has the picture changed.

I come to these threads for the workmanship, and the hints and the tips, rather than the actual cars themselves. I have to say I've enjoyed this thread immensely, more that the ground up rebuilds !! Because it is a little more grass roots, bodges have been found, and there is a limit to what the owner/insurance company will pay for. B-Grade paint jobs are what more of us will be doing in our garages at home, so it is really refreshing to see the shortcuts and workarounds that the professionals can get away with. Also hats off to you Chris for showing the paint reaction, and how you dealt with it. I've painted a few cars, and any reaction/pickling in my grade E for effort paint jobs have been soul destroying. I'm starting the petition for a live webcam in your workshop ;-) I think the webcam needs to be attached to Sid. He's in charge and will get into all the awkward bits.

No photo handy but my longest is my 72 Hillman Hunter. Mum bought it new when I was 4 months old as my pram didn't fit in the Morrie. Not currently roadworthy but the 10th of next month will be 46 years of ownership.

Giving up smoking can take lots of attempts as well. He'll be back.

curse word, I'm just south of Christchurch so can't be of any use. Bound to be someone on this forum up there though who could take a look/video/photos if that was useful.

A friend of mine had one the same colour when we were teenagers. We called it the Moleste, not very pc but pc wasn't invented then. From memory there were quite a few 1600s in NZ but not many 2 litres which his was. Haven't seen one in a very long time.

Does the heater blow any warm air at all when the fan is on? If so core could be blocked with old rusty bits, if you can get to the inlet/outlet hoses running a garden hose through it in the opposite direction to normal flow should clean it out. Did this recently to wifes car and got a lot of brown sand out, heater now works! Don't run hose flat out, just in case...

Very interested to see how you go on the door cards. I've got some Hunter door cards that were similarly butchered 29 years ago by some teenage fool, oh hang on that was me... Anyway would like to tidy them up sometime!

Thanks for the info, I've got a factory workshop manual but the electrical section is missing so those page shots are very helpful! I've got a 1972 Hunter saloon down here in New Zealand, needs some work but I'm the second owner (Mum was the first). Very keen to get a better starter on it than the old inertia engaged type. Cheers!

Is that pre-engaged starter for a hunter? If so do you have any part numbers/where it was used type info? Thanks!
