I wear progressive lenses and was told recently that if you put them on upside down the close bit is then at the top, and it actually works really well! Do look like a wally but am very experienced in that aspect...

I don't tend to comment all that often, but this thread is really good to watch. Nice work and description, thanks for the effort posting. Looking forward to any/all future updates.

Your high tech bead roller is the most brilliantest idea I've seen in ages! I could have used it a month ago! Perhaps it needs it's own sticky thread, it really is that good.

OP, you mention Suzuki Maruti India parts. I assume you get these from India online? If so, what website/s do you use? Cheers.

Watching your progress with interest from New Zealand, clearly you are a man of wide influence! Going great, well done.

When the head gasket went in my compressor I used the old one as a pattern (after having seen the prices!), made a new one out of gasket paper and it's been fine ever since. Not sure if compressor head gaskets are normally made of anything special but gasket paper seems to work. Fantastic work by the way!

Had a bit of garage time this evening. Fully welded the pipe to the air-filter. Hmmm everyone says you can't weld to (for example) rust and here's someone claiming they can weld to an air filter? ?

How effective did you find your diy hot tank setup? Thanks.

GN you mention using dot 5 is fine after correctly and fully removing the old dot 4. How do you go about doing this? I had always understood all seals needed to be changed too but that's merely what I've "heard", and not from experience. Thanks, and nice work too.

Dettol and Palmolive are some of my favourite tool manufacturers. They make stuff that comes in squirty bottles that once used up can be filled with dishwashing liquid and water, which is very useful for a bunch of little jobs in the garage.

if you lived in my neck of the w, i would be right round with my adjustable spanner You'd need an imperial one for that car. It's an old joke, barely worth repeating to be honest... I just can't help myself. Sorry! I suspect a metric one plus some colourful language will be an acceptable substitute!

Being that my daily driver is an older Corolla in which I pat myself on the back for always getting about 44mpg and not leaking any oil it really really concerns me how much I am enjoying reading this thread... This is not helped by a friend who owns a similar V12 XJS letting me have a wee drive a couple of years ago, what a wonderful car.

Hope I've done it right wouldn't fancy starting it again So the difference between these 2 photos is about 16 months, by an amateur learning as he goes, working outside with basic tools to a high standard, on something with no parts available, documenting the whole process online, while also earning a living? ??!!!!!!!!!!

CCA is cold cranking amps. My Hunter had a 300CCA for a long time, after a while I got sick of it always cranking slowly in the cold. Took it to the local battery shop and they had a 550CCA that was much better. Needed new holddown bolts (much bigger case) but otherwise was a drop in replacement.

Saw a light blue Celica like yours on the road just south of Christchurch, New Zealand a couple of days ago. Can't remember ever seeing one in the flesh before.
