If its going through IVA then you might be surprised how big the scoop can be. Looking at yours it would depend on the seating position as to whether it would pass or fail. I’ve got a funny feeling that, from stripping the seats for the retrim, I’ve misplaced the seat height adjuster arm...and it’s locked in the uppermost position; oh bother...

I'd be careful about the size of the scoop if your running a front mounted radiator behind the grille. If you pressurise the engine bay to much with the big scoop the air won't want to go through the grille / radiator and engine cooling will be compromised. If your radiator is in the boot then ignor me. Good point this; I’d already noted this possibility. I’m planning on having two extractor vents either side of the scoop to ensure the radiator flows.

I think you may have trouble with IVA with the intake front being so hi restricting the drivers view, if it followed the bonnet curve more it would look better and probably stand a better chance of getting through an IVA, Blackpopracing would be the best to advise as he has been through it. I do like the idea, it's just a bit too way out there OTT compared to the look of the rest of the car.

I think your right about following the bonnet a bit more (I’m assuming you mean when looking from the side?) I’ll look to reduce the height of the front of the scoop (coming a little more parallel to the bonnet when looking from side), and bring the entry hole more towards the vertical (as suggested by Blackpop) Regarding the IVA, I’m building the scoop assembly so that I can have interchangeable tops (if it’s too big at the test I can throw on a small inoffensive one) Cheers for the input.

Yes, personally I think scoop front edges should only lean back 2 or 3 degrees. I think you might be right; I’ll mock it up and decide. As a pro, being more vertical would work better with where the intercooler is. Cheers for the input buddy. Regarding curving the top surface to match the roof; I’m not feeling it. The flat scoop top will match the flat bonnet/grill at the front.

Size is ok but it's an odd shape? Not keen on the sloping back front edge. As in; the entry hole of the scoop being more on the vertical?

Wow, thats massive, function over form ?? Yeah, the thinking is the scoop will need to be tall to catch the air coming over the front of the car; unlike the base impreza, the air will separate over the leading edge of the bonnet due to the slab front. I’m tempted to lower the front hoop of the scoop a tad (it’s currently cardboard over a metal frame)

Nice Project - any progress since June? Not much worth photographing.. A fair bit of final welding has been done (still a bit to do), and I’ve finished the dash (probably worth a photo next time I’m with the car). I got distracted for a few weekends stripping down then scrapping off the blue (GD) donor impreza; we needed to make some space in the work shop for other projects. Other ‘progress’ is that the gearbox has gone in for a full rebuild (and upgrade), the seats are with the trimmer (I decided that light cream nappa leather with diamond stitched Alcentara centres would really lift the finished car), and I settled on the paint colour (non-metallic grey, with off white steelies).

To the OP; now that ftz has stated that he will not be checking back into this thread...
The problem with forums is that people state opinions as fact, leading others to misunderstand (and potentially spread the same ‘facts’ elswhere)
You may already correctly understand the IVA, and therefore may have phased out to the disagreement above, if not: Implandy is 100% correct in all his statements... If a previously registered vehicle is modified so that it fails against the points system, it looses its identity and effectively needs to be re-registered (noting that as soon as you cut about a unibody car you fail before you take any other points into consideration - check out my build thread to see how I would know)
I think there’s a bit of denial about the IVA requirements as it encroaches into our hobby; with people looking for loopholes, and reading the rules in creative ways..
As I said before; I would build the metal work to pass the IVA requirements, then decide what to do. Most people seems to ignore it to be honest (which is a choice that I don’t have a problem with)...I’ve chosen to do my car by the book as I want to share the build freely...the fear of some muppet reporting an incorrectly registered build is very real...

The reason I ask is I have a hevily modified 52 oxford MO project that'll be going into paint very shortly, and if I need to Iva it I would rather do any remedial work prior to paint... My advice would be to do the bodywork tweaks prior to paint; nows the time to make it IVA’able, you’d be gutted if they clamp down later.. It would mainly mean making sure you lights are at the right hights, and making sure the bodywork has a 2.5mm radius...easy enough. At this point, as the authorities have not proven to be that keen on enforcing of the rules (it would be easy to catch everyone if they really wanted to), it’s up to you whether you volunteer your car to the test or not... you could choose to build it, drive it, and not have to cry if you get pulled up later (as only mods to bolt on items would be needed)

Small update on a few bits: Boot floor done (with mounting points in the top-hat for the two exhausts: Mounting for the iPad sorted (had to devise a way that wouldn’t put too much pressure on it). The real iPad that will be going in has a black surround not white; for building the dash, buying a fake (display) iPad, has been invaluable though: And worked out how to secure the dash vents; these are modified AUDI A1 dash vents, that interestingly work in the same way as the original viva fresh-air vents:

Wouldn't it be easier to have two rads and a link pipe? Probably, but two additional end tanks would take up valuable space that would otherwise be radiator core. This thing will need all the cooling capacity I can give it.

^^^ This! I vote pale blue with orangey wheels - a kind of nod to the Subaru hairy-tage of World Rally Blue and gold wheels! You might be onto something there... a gulf colour scheme could work; orange wheels and a orange centre strip (starting on the fixed hood scoop). The scheme seems to work on many different cars: When the car’s painted in primer, I’ll be looking to photoshop it in the grey, a JPS colour scheme, and the Gulf colours

Absolutely no colour that wasn’t available at the time, so no stupid Focus metallic greens etc. Just ‘normal’ whites, reds, yellow etc I do get your point of view for many cars, but we’ve always gone metallic (modern) colours on the ‘chassis swap’ cars. It’s not like it’s an original looking sleeper after all.
