Check the regs, I seem to remember the 5mm exterior protrusions radius regs (ECE R26) only apply to certain areas of the car, even if they do apply the sticking out isn't a problem as long as they have a 5mm radius for the test. Having a dig into the rules, IVA has a separate note regarding the exhaust: But, having checked on the car just now, you and others are right; the sticking out is still not the issue I thought it was: So just the radius to sort. I quite like blackpop’s idea of a slip-on exhaust finisher to correct the radius issue

You may struggle to get those exhaust tips through BIVA. You’re almost certainly right unfortunately. When fabricating the back box assembly space was limited under the car, needing to avoid the rear anti roll bar; hence it being a bit further out than originally planned: At some point before the test I’ll have to either: 1. Make a simpler back box assembly to pass IVA, preserving this one as is off the car… 2. Modify this exhaust to change the tips for something stubbier and more rolled-edged. For example: Got some time to ponder options but thoughts welcome

After the sprint to get the car out of the workshop, getting some motivation back to do the finishing bits and bobs has been a challenge. However, I’m now making some progress again. Firstly I came up with a far better badge idea (I reckon anyway); one that acknowledges where the oily bits have come from: I finally managed to wire up all the lights; the front ones were fun as additional relays were needed to convert successfully from the Impreza units to H4 bulbs: I used DT-series Deutsch connectors on all the looms; fantastic things, can’t recommend them enough. Changed the boot located battery wiring to incorporate a cut off switch, a charging socket (for battery conditioner), as well as additional fusing and relays (for boot opener etc): Started to install the aftermarket central locking system: And reinstated the recirculating valve in place of the aftermarket ‘dump’ valve. I simply didn’t like it…must be getting old:

If you’re going to all that trouble, you may as well ‘chassis swap’ it to gain modern running gear etc (it’s an IVA either way). The only way to avoid it (and be legal) would be to modify the toyota so it can mount to an unmodified chassis from a car that has a separate chassis (TVR for example)
Edit: the above assumes your based in the Uk

Can't remember if you've already said but I'd be tempted to recreate a Firenza badge on the back, perhaps with STi to replace the SL as in the example pic below. I’m not really a fan of badges but, as my wife recently brought one of those vinyl cutting machines and I’ve done very little work on the car this year, I’ve had a go at designing a subtle badge for car: I quite like it but may make the final version a little bigger

Sounds great not very scooby like either It’s got a little of the scooby warble, but I think the way the back box splits into the two silencers has muted it a fair bit. Happy accident or travesty; undecided for now

After a couple of seconds to prime the fuel lines it burst into life on the first try…properly relieved! imgur.com/a/Aai9pqQ

Love this car and the engineering that has gone into it so far, Quite like the exhaust, Will you be running 1/4 bumpers ?? Nigel Cheers. This isn’t getting any bumpers; prefer the look on this particular build

Exhaust back box fabrication underway, what do you fine people think of the look? I need to move the car at the end of the month…ideally I’d like to drive it onto the truck. I need pictures but a lot has been done. The list of ‘must do before leaving’ items stands at: Finish exhaust Finish plumbing up the power steering return hoses Paint a few items (including fuel filler neck) Add steering fluid Add engine oil Add coolant Add fuel Nervously turn key….

Regarding the door handles; they have been replaced with something a little more modern, but not body coloured ones. It uses repurposed Alfa 156 door handles:

That have the added bonus of being able to see something in them too, unlike every other mirror for a classic car. You’re not wrong; the visibility is good with these.

Potentially controversial… After messing about with a couple of other options, I went for these fiat 500/punto door mirrors. I think they suit the chunky nature of the car, but predict they’ll be marmite.

Not sure about 50cm (seems quite high), but if the wheels are staying on we use wooden blocks.

Thanks for the input, and good google skills (although as they’re black, I doubt they were intended for the e-type).
These will probably spend the foreseeable in my garage, as I’m not sure who to offer them to.
