I've managed to find a double garage to move all my tools etc into which leaves my double length single garage for welding and polishing etc. I want to add a media blasting setup to this, i've got a working understanding of what this entails however I'd like to hear advice/ experience on this.
First thing I know is to always overcompensate with the compressor size

I've answers a few questions like this on here lately. What it boils down to is you need a compressor that's much bigger than you can run off single phase domestic electrics and a good £1000 to invest in a decent pot etc. I think the best you can hope for at home is a small cabinet for Doing small parts or a little recircilating gun for doing small spots on bodywork etc.

For what it would cost and how irritating it would be it would be a waste.

You can buy Variable Frequency Drives to run 3-phase kit on single phase domestic supplies pretty cheaply these days. Add in a second hand compressor and you could be up and running with some spare change.
A bit more work involved with the setup admittedly.

phase converters and the like though don't always like the in rush of current that's a by product of a compressor , its ok where you can build speed slowly such as machine tools

The bigger the cabinet the better, and preferably with a filtration system to suck the dust out. I've used the home diy cabinets, the cheap lift up lid type is a complete waste of time, and the next one up with the side door is ok for odd little jobs. I now have access to a medium sized industrial cabinet at work with a large filter system on the back and can easily run the compressor down which I think has a 250ltr tank.
