So Ive this old bike, a Raleigh chippy, I started a build thread for it, finally getting round working on it. retrorides.proboards.com/thread/164528#.VE5YZcmZ5ZINow the front tire is knackered, its none existent and I need to make / find a new one. I was thinking of using a fan belt... Chopped to length, plenty of tiger seal in the rim and then finding a way to join the belt back together and stuffing it in there. It only has to keep the front rim off the ground and I cant imagine the little man going to fast on it. Open to suggestions or other ideas?

1303 have struts on the front and not a beam like most beetles, so the frame head is a different set up with independent lower arms, check round the frame head as it can be a plums to fix, also as said, check the floor pans and heater channels, under the back seat where the battery is is a common point too. After this everything on a beetle is easy to replace, wings, lights, bonnets etc.

Well, new piston, rings, pin, clips, and pushed back into the cylinder, head on, back in the frame wired up, and kicked over, everything moves freely, loads of compression and a lovely spark, so hopefully ill get the carb on in the next day or too and some fuel in the tank, check everything over and fingers crossed start her up. If she runs, it will be straight for a new rear tire and bolting all the panels back on for a first ride round the block.

Sorry... either which way the green piece of paper is called (I always called it a tax book) How do I use the old style green one to apply as the new keeper as it doesn't have a new keeper section...

Its not a car... its a 1994 Scooter a Suzuki AE50. Has previous owner details etc on the book. It is in Northern Ireland too. Can I just apply for a new V5C as if I had never been given a tax book?

How do you apply for a new tax book when you become the new keeper of a vehicle that has one of the really old green card type tax books?

Will do that... Jonny started cleaning my carb last night, sent me a picture of it in the ultra-sonic machine. Was bogging inside.

New Piston ordered, with rings, clip and a new gudgen pin... ill compare it with the old one and if they are too different, I will clean the old one and rebuild it with the new rings and pin etc.
How tight should the piston be to get back into the cylinder again once its rebuilt?

So after sitting for a week with oil in the cylinder... thankfully the piston was at the top of the cylinder... it still would not budge, so off came the head and a nice block of wood down the cylinder and quite a few swift blows with the hammer the piston was free.
The cylinder seems grand, though ill give it a good clean inside (anyone recommend something cheap and cheerful to do this with?)
The piston however was black on top, the rings wont budge and it was rightly carbon'd down the sides, though not as far as the skirt. So I think for the sake of a tenner, ill replace the piston and rings and all the bits that go with it... but clean and keep the cylinder as its a rather nice 6 port number.
Head is grand too... carb is away to my buddy to be cleaned as well.
Finally moving forwards.

That sounds a bit more sensible, I found a unit local to me, I am not sure of its exact size but it was pretty big (maybe 6 - 8 cars) but the guy was asking 50 quid a week... I am looking for something more like 20 quid a week lol.

Hi Guys, I am in a situation where I need to rent unit or even a barn that is half secure. I phoned about an available unit this morning now it was a fair bit bigger than what I needed but seemed a bit expensive. What should I be expecting to roughly pay for a unit or space that could hold say 3 cars and some tools. Cheers

Stripped down to the frame, there was loads of wiring and one wee curse word of a screw that gave me grief, otherwise it came apart no problems, main pivot bolt has to come out and rear shock and that will be the engine and transmission removed completely for work to start. Panel condition is remarkable... I have not cleaned these at all Inside of the nose fairing Rear panel and seat Some warning stickers lol

Went and visited Forde of the forum last night (lovely fella, loads of nice bikes and a good laugh) and this jumped into the back of the van... a Suzuki AE50, fairly rare machine mostly made for the Canadian market, its a wee 50cc that puts out a cracking 6.5bhp. Feels like a spaceship to sit on, massive instrument panel, when you look over the front it looks like the whole thing is levitating as the front fairing comes all the way down over the front wheel, its ugly and 90s and cool as frig. Of course it needs some work, carb clean, tank clean and the piston is stuck... hopefully some diesel left sitting in the cylinder will help free it. Pictures! Hiding in the back of the van: In all its glory once we got it home, body work is amazing, completely original even down to the asbestos warning sticker, has one wee small hairline split in the front fairing, some glue or a desecrate cable tie will sort that. and original lucky strike Suzuki keyring... the don't make them like this anymore.

try to find 181 front axle and rear axle with reduction boxes this will raise the bug about 25 cm Like mine? More like 7.5cm, and a few more cm fom the tyres. It's an easy mod but no monster Beetle. You any more information on this? build thread or anything?

I normally get, what year is it, why is it so low (its a beetle) What would you sell it for... I normally just answer with I wouldn't. Last time I got questioned it was by a petrol station attendant behind the counter...
