I have 6 LED work lights on the discovery. Seeing as I calculated they consume less than an amp each, running them from a switch without a relay is fine. Edited: each lamp has its own switch, they are all independent. Did you use the cree ones or just ebay specials? Any night pictures to show how bright they are ?tbf I was contemplating sticking some up front as the headlights are dire on unlit country roads. ...

Been trying to do my research on the wiring aspect of a couple off LED worklights on the back off my van,the last time i wired extra lights up was years ago using halogen spotlights meaning relays and everything...there appears to be conflicting views online about this, some saying relays are still needed, others saying due to the low power consumption off LED's to just wire them up straight off the battery via an in line fuse and switch....
so can anyone give me a definative answer regarding this please???

This is the relay2 so think its around 106bhp ish and just the 5 speed box.......I'm tempted to try cutting a piece of lead to fit as i have a roll kicking about to see if it makes any difference. .... I wouldn't use lead, I can see that melting or burning away, I used a thinners tin once in a 'emergency get the car working again' blank when an egr valve got jammed open (no boost) and it burned through in a few weeks. Use at least 1mm steel.. Many thanks for the responses, think I will just order a blanking plate from ebay as there only around £4, is there a process to fitting it,?ie when cold or when up to temp etc etc???

it shouldn't be that slow with the 2.2 engine, we have a relay 3 at work with the 120 bhp 6 speed puma diesel, granted its never got that much weight in it but still goes ok for about 2.2 tons. not done egr blank on the puma diesel, but have done on a c5 110 hdi 8v, took about ten minutes including making the blank from a bit of 1 mm sheet... helps quite a bit I think as egr valves are the work of the devil, it was quite noticable that it came on boost quicker and pulled harder, though the intake was pretty clean. This is the relay2 so think its around 106bhp ish and just the 5 speed box.......I'm tempted to try cutting a piece of lead to fit as i have a roll kicking about to see if it makes any difference. ....

Get it remapped should help, I can't see you having an issue with the EGR blank as long as it's done as part of the remap! A good service may help if it's not had one in a while also as will a free flowing exhaust! That's my 2 pence worth anyway! Thanks for the reply, I realise a remap is the best way too go although it is going to be a workhorse and for what I've paid for it not sure I want to throw probably 3-400 on it for a remap off a 3.5 ton van.....has anybody blocked the egr on one of these engines before......

Hi I realise it's not retro but I will be picking up a 2006 Citroen Relay with the 2.2hdi engine (mk2 shape), managed to pick it up for the right money considering its had a cambelt and new injection system in last 12months , mot'd last week and only 93k and one elderly owner. Question being would i benefit from sticking a blanking plate on the egr or will it throw fault codes?equally its as slow as a donkey if I'm honest so is there an easy way to pep it up a little? Not after a racing van but something happening outta the right hand pedal would be nice.....

The one i used to own had the 528i badge on the back and it always seemed to make people want to race you off the lights to make themselves feel good in there 2litre euro boxes.........but to be fair it had 18'' schnitzer wheels on it with huge tyres on the back that probably didnt help......

On the engine stabiliser the two people I have known to fit them (one who now runs a 400+BHP Altezza) found that the Powerflex stabiliser bush added more noise than necessary into the cabin. If this top bush has been changed I would leave this mount well alone. I think your talking about the top engine mount which tbf does transmit noise and vibration into cabin, I'm talking about the powerflex stabiliser tensioning bushes, they go on where tge stabiliser bar attaches to the struts either side........

Looks very nice, i would powerflex the wishbone bushes and also the engine stabiliser bar (the strut brace looking thingy ), stiffens the front end up nicely.....although mine is the d5 so advised against doing engine mounts because of vibration from diesel lump, I'm led to believe the petrols can be powerflexed alot more before any detrimental effect happens!!!!! Turns them into a very 'chuckable' car considering there size. ...

Made up my new heavy duty extension cord from a 110V site cable so that I can get easy current onto the drive when I do heavy duty welding. This will obviously not be needed for welding plate steel, but I do have a next little side project ready as seen in Kiwi Kev's back yard Hot Rod shop. As a 110v user on construction sites this makes me cringe, have seen some very nice kit wrecked on sites through people doing this......last one was a festool plunge saw, £500 worth wrecked in seconds............ ( not mine i may add!!)

I have had a 2003 v70 albeit the d5 version for the last 4 years, if its had new wishbones make sure there genuine volvo jobbies or even better powerflex bushed genuine ones, i have had meyle hd ones fitted previously which lasted just over 12 months before the bushes tore.....head over to volvoforum and t5d5 , wealth of knowledge on there and has saved me ALOT of money during my ownership..... with a few choice mods these can be made to upset alot of smaller 'sporty' cars in the twisties....lol

I've just moved into 'modern car' territory with the purchase of a Volvo V70 D5 (diesel) estate. Best automotive move I've *ever* made for a daily. SOOO much comfort, refinement and mile munching capability. Masses of space, huge boot, flexible interior and so many neat touches. Add to that all the toys (way too many to list) that make driving it like being in the first class lounge of an executive club (heated leather seats and Dolby surround sound system are my faves) ....now factor in the 52mpg I'm getting, I simply cannot get my head around how so much car can be had for £1k!! That 52mpg is covering 3,500 miles of city driving, towing other cars or heavy trailers and lots of country roads. Not just motorway where the figure is nearer 60mpg on a good run. They look quite nice (IMHO) and certainly hold their own as a 12 year old car (mine's a 52 plate) which is one of the reasons I bought it. You'd never think its a £1k car to look at. As I say, best car purchase ever for a main daily transport. I have one of these myself albeit a 2003 car, can only echo what bruce has said, awesome cars for what they are, mines currently on 157000 and runs like half that.... Anyway Bruce lets see some pics of yours(put mine to shame no doubt as not been washed for months!!!)
