Had an E39 around 10 years ago, albeit was a 528i,loved that car, probably nicest car I've owned tbh.
Had 18''ac schnitzer wheels on mine, wanted a subtle drop but really didn't want to ruin the wafty ride. Only issue with them being they love cruising at way past license losing speeds!!

We went to florida couple years ago, was recommended to use discount car hire, cost us around £300 the fortnight iirc... Picked up from Alamo counter, was told on collection I could upgrade to anything in the parking lot for $10 per day more!!
Not sure where else they operate in the US, was a guy in Hull I dealt with, he buys block bookings from the big guys and passed a good saving onto the customer!

Mrs had one of these for last 15years, Cooper in red, white roof bonnet stripes, chilli pack, full leather etc. Been a cracking car tbh, great fun as a back road blatter but as a commuter car I totally detest it tbh but then again I don't drive it... Getting to the point of needing few quid spending on it now but its worth nothing now so at tht point of either drive it till it dies or keep repairing it! Sounds very similar to my 2003 Cooper, bought to replace a BMW E39 523i that was on its last legs. Why do you detest it as a commuter car? I drive mine as a daily hack on country roads, and find it quite agreeable. I would say the first generation MINIs will always be worth something, and may well appreciate - they've been mentioned in Practical Classics, after all. Doesn't help that I'm 6'3'',just find it very uncomfortable, constantly banging my Head of the sunroof surround, it's noisy, runflat tyres are awful things, no boot space.. Having said that the Mrs loves it, I only drive it when she thinks something not right in all honesty so doesn't bother me. Does like the dogs when it's all clean and polished though..

Just my 2p's worth on Volvo's. Had 3, 2 S60 D5s and one C30, 1 had an ECU failure, 1 had total electrical failure, 1 S60 was fine. So 66% of the Volvo's I've ever owned have broken down! Just something to consider Can see why your not a fan after that luck... I had a V70 for 6.5 years was a great car and loved it, ran out to 180k and other than repairs that were to be expected at age and mileage never gave me any trouble, never broke down. Now run a Xc90 and highly rate that too, tow regulary to and again assist from expected repairs is great

I had an 02 3 door, albeit was only 3 years old when I had it, I'll agree everything is very light on them, steering crazy light tbh.
I had the 1.6 v tec and loved the engine, pottered around town nicely, but get it over 4k revs and it was electric and great back road blatter....

Remember an old boss having an sxi estate in the early 90's, used to do the sandwich run in tht car most days, 18 years of age and the keys to a fast car with free petrol... That car got seriously spanked in my hands.. Oooops, was great fun at the time though!
Remember it spending most of its life with no ignition barrel tbf, used to be broken into and ignition smashed every few weeks back then, Screwdriver in door bin was the universal starting implement back then!

If you like quirky and different, how about a Honda hrv or even frv.... Had an hrv many years ago, the 1.6 v tec, great engine, serious plodder but rev it hard enough and all hell breaks loose for some fun on the twistys....

Remember these back in the day, as a young boy walking past a white 3 door every day on way to/from school..
He washed it what seemed like every night at the time, hosed it off then smashed it round the block to dry it off before leathering it down.. Remember thinking what a motor at the time when the old man was driving company car for orion's... Lol
I wonder what I would do to one.
Steels??
Need to see if there is one out there, with towbar, for peanuts.
How about a bit different, jacked up,all terrain tyres, nato green, lights everywhere, roof racks etc... Proper multi purpose bit off kit?

Remember a guy I used to work with buying a multipla when they first came out, not the prettiest of cars gotta be said but reckon with a grizz makeover it could actually work!!!!!
Was a very practical car for him from what I remember and was van like when empty. Bet they can be had for peanuts now too...

. Kia Sedona 2.9 diesel just on radar. Had one of those around 8 years ago, god damn awful thing in all honesty, seats have to be removed an literally zero load space with them all in... Only car I have ever truly hated owning... Volvo v70 d5, brilliant piece off kit, ran one for 6.5years after kia episode.. Loved every second off tht car, did most off my house up with that car, took whole kitchen to tip in, on and trailer on too... Common v70 issues... Front suspension components(polybush wishbones, transform the handling and not much harsher than original) Top engine mounts and gearbox torque mounts Wear out(cheap enough and 5 min jobs to change) Check freewheel pulley on alternator(if throws belt off cambelt right next too so takes cambelt out too) If rear tyres scrubbing on outer edge trailing arm bushes shot(easy enough fix) My last v70 had 180k on it when I sold it, original exhaust, clutch and dmf... Highly rate them, I limo tinted all rear windows and used as van working in London, 4 blokes and boot full (and I mean FULL) of kit, still averaged 50mpg commuting every day Leicester to London. Only sold it as wasn't truly happy towing big caravan with it, now run an early xc90 d5. Love the d5 engine, 2.4 5 cylinder is a peach off an engine. Tax wise around £320 a year if I recall correctly...

Related question: Anyone have experience of the earl-ish XC90s? I kinda like the 4+litre V8 ones, but suspect the Diesel is better for towing (cars and such). Anything to be concerned about with them? I run an 04 xc90 d5, very heavy on suspension components(but all volvo diesels are tbf) tow brilliantly, get gearbox oil changed if towing. Earlier 163bhp are stronger cars by all accounts, later 185bhp although quicker are fitted with dpf whereas earlier 163 don't. 185 have 6 speed auto box, 163 only 5 speed auto..

Sat in a turbo one off these today of early 90s vintage, awful pale blue metallic, bodywork needed a lot of love but my god like sitting in an armchair.... I'd imagine they need deep pockets to make mint though..

All the switch does is Earth the circuit (usually through the mounting screw) to complete the circuit. Run the live to the light then the earth from the light to the switch. Thanks matey, obvious when you think about it hey!!

Always loved the look of these, back in the late 90s the guy I used for mot's at the time had the Carlsson version of this and always fancied one even then...
