For vehicles first used before 1 July 2008, the limit will be one of the following: the level specified on the manufacturer's plate 2.5m-1 for a non-turbocharged engine – if it's not stated on the manufacturer's plate 3.0m-1 for a turbocharged engine – if it's not stated on the manufacturer's plate For vehicles first used between 1 July 2008 and 31 December 2013, the limit will be one of the following: the level specified on the manufacturer's plate 1.5m-1 – if it's not stated on the manufacturer's plate For vehicles first used on or after 1 January 2014, the limit will be one of the following: the level specified on the manufacturer's plate 0.7m-1 – if it's not stated on the manufacturer's plate If the smoke level is displayed on the VIN plate, it will be a number, usually in a box (as below), and often positioned in the bottom right . Seems pretty clear to me , plate value overrides default limits 4 days after going live the option to fail pre 2008 diesels on the manufacturers plate limit has gone from the failure items list despite still being in the testing manual . Most likely the massive jump in diesel emission failures was a bit much for Dvsa

It’s more the older pre 2008 stuff that I see struggling . As usual plenty of stupidity in the new manual like failing a mil light even if it flies through the emmissions test

If the vehicle has a limit value on the chassis plate it will have to pass that not the default values , I’ve been trying a few at the plate value and it’s not looking good . 2002 vw t4 van has a 0.3 limit on the plate , that’s stricter than the new Euro 6 test limit

If it’s chuffing you’ve got a much better chance of it coming out , I usually try and knock it side ways back and forth to help break the carbon up before resorting to the puller . With a spare pair of hands you can get a pry bar in and get some leverage on it and knock it back and forth they usually come out ,

I run them on my Talbot express camper with a Volvo T5 engine . O/s shaft is a two piece so roughly the same length as the n/s . The other car is a reliant kitten with a Saab turbo engine in the back , very short shafts and eventually snapped at the drag strip . I have shafts made by Geoff berrisford at gb engineering now £330 a pair with spines for 100mm ford lobro type joints .

Going back a while but I did this on a reliant to get rid of a sunroof . Cut a piece of 18swg ally and left a 50mm border around the outside of the hole . Mask the border and applied several coats of mould release wax . Peel the mask off and use an rtv silicone with a generous bead in the Center of the 50mm border and stuck it over the hole with a row of house bricks to hold it down while it sets . Apply a gel coat from inside and then a layer of tissue once the gel is tacky . First two layers of glass were 250gsm light stuff and wet the glass out on a piece of ally so it’s not soaked and in sections big enough to lift and put in position with gloves on then a once over with the roller . Build up one layer at a time leaving it for a day between layers . 2 layers of 250 then two 450 was enough . Make a couple of tapered wedges to break the silicone seal and the panel came off revealing the gel coat finish and a bit of tidying up around the edge of the hole but worked out pretty well .

Ran cut n shut on a couple of cars , shock loading will snap them but I’ve put 400+ lb ft through them with no issues . My method is to make a sleeve with two long slots in and an interference fit to get the cut ends in . Weld the long slots and a quick pass around the ends as that’s where they will want to snap .

What sort of flywheel are you using ? The plate I had built for my 6sp isn’t sprung but I’ve used a fairly heavy e46 single mass conversion flywheel . How did the old full friction plate behave ?
