Yes, I did an engine conversion on an old RS2000 mk5 of mine for the 2.3 and a zetec conversion on a friends mk2 fiesta. Both where sent for MOT and just the details changed on the V5C, I never got anything back from the DVLA apart from the new V5C. Was this done recently? That being the case I'll mot along with a covering letter.

Bortaf and Scimjim. That's the way I intend to go to get records updated. Car is currently sorn so I'll get it all done before it goes back on road.
Re the mot. I'm not saying that it won't be accepted as verification by dvla but it wasn't one of the options that they gave me on their letter. Have you had an engine change verified in this way?

I've recently had issues with this after changing the engine in my car.
I sent v5 away with a covering letter explaining what I had done and that donor engine was removed from an identical car that was also registered in my name. I supplied engine numbers and a copy of the v5 for donor vehicle.
DVLA requested proof of purchase of the replacement engine and a report from RAC/AA or from a garage on headed paper to state that vehicle had been inspected by a competent person and engine was correctly installed. There was no mention of an mot being sufficient for this purpose.
This was last year and I've not followed up on it. I'll be able to sort out what they need but just a heads up on what they currently expect you to provide.

Personally I'd spend £100 on hg repair on a car I knew rather than £500 on a car that needs mot'd shortly.

This forum doesn't have any connection with Car SOS so unfortunately won't be able to help with your requests to restore cars. You will need to contact the production company and follow their advice.
Good luck

I've stopped on numerous occasions to help folk but a couple that stick in my mind are these.
Rush hour on the motorway at a 3 lane section and there was a crash involving HGV into back of a car. I never witnessed it but it had only just happened. I stopped mainly to give first aid - I'm a fireman and was in uniform coming off a nightshift. Fortunately no serious injuries but I did have to remove a Good Samaritan who thought it was helpful to start directing 3 lanes of motorway traffic in his dark coloured business suit. Reason I remember this one is a couple of weeks later I received an invoice from highways agency invoicing me for damage to the road as a result of an accident that I had caused !! Got it resolved with help of police.
Other occasion coming to mind is I witnessed an old lady being knocked down on a pedestrian crossing by a car in front of me. Low speed but enough to knock the old girl, who was pretty frail, off her feet. I got out of my car and went to help and just as I got there some moron says to me "she's probably pi**ed mate" and walked away. Regardless of whether she was or not is beside the point - she was in need of help. Turns out she was intact stone cold sober as she was on long term meds that meant she couldn't drink alcohol. I stayed with her until ambulance arrived and chatted away. She was a nice old lady and fortunately wasn't badly hurt but the idiot who offered nothing but a stupid comment is becoming all too common.
It never fails to amaze me when I arrive at incidents in work just how many folk are standing around videoing accidents and people who are hurt and needing help. I just don't get the mindset of those people.

It's only at end of month I've had an issue. If I'm selling anytime after the 20th I sorn to ensure I don't pay tax into the following month.

I'd just sorn it online if it's close to the end of the month. Can take a while to process the transfer of ownership and I'm not sure they will refund you too hastily if it clicks over a month while it's getting done. Yes sorn it online and cancel your DD. I've been caught out with this. As far as DVLA are concerned regards tax it is the date they process the new keeper request and not the date of sale that they take into account. If you don't sorn it can lead to them receiving a month's tax from both new keeper and previous owner.

Hot air gun and an old wood chisel is my usual method to remove underseal. It's a horrible job but it works pretty well.

Rocker cover is looking good. Is the bottom half of your car a different shade of blue or is it just the camera?
Also I think I've got the correct badge for your spot lamp grille if you want it?

You made a cake tin fit the backend of the car surely you can manage to make a couple of brackets for the mirrors 👍

Can you not bend up a bracket of some sort to allow you to mount them where you want?

It's a fairly easy swap to fit the engines I mentioned. I've got an 18e and manual box in my cavalier which was originally a 1.6 auto.
If you need any pointers let me know and I'll try to help.

Thanks for all the replies guys... I'll try to answer in order... My MIG and Arc is ok, I used to build security gates and Railings, never used TIG though, I was going to MIG it and give to my friend to finish off with the TIG. I didn't think of slotting them, that makes sense, will reduce the torsional stress on the weld, and they won't have no where near that amount of torque going through them. It's going to be a ford Sigma SE going into my cav.....possibly. I didn't think of using Arc for the whole job, That would mean i could do it all at home. I thought it would be easier to MIG it first while it was all in place on the car as i don't have a TIG at home nor a lift, I'll be lying on my back on my drive tacking it in place before i take them off to weld fully. Well.... more measurements and thought need to go into it first, I did toy with the idea of turning it round and RWD it. But thats a lot of work for me, and i could quite possibly screw it up. Keeping it FWD makes it easier and more feasible as all i need to do is fabricate engine mounts and driveshafts, and swap the loom around. Unless of course anyone wants to swap my 1.6 SE and 5spd for an ecotec + box, manual or auto i don't mind, I just want a teeny bit more power and everyday drive-ability... I've heard tell of folk that have put the ecotec head on the 8v block, which would be even easier, but i'm not sure if that's true or not... Anyway, thanks for all the info guys, this project (whichever way i decide to go) will be started early september, i'll put up a build thread as i go we shall see where it takes us If you are just looking for a bit more power a 1.8 (e/se) or a 2 litre 8v (seh/ne) will bolt straight onto your existing engine mounts. You can use your gearbox and driveshafts also. You'd need to do a bit of wiring and sort out a return line to an injection fuel tank but this is all straightforward. I know it's not answering your question about driveshafts but it may be an easier option if it's just a bit more power you are looking for.
