Dear all, I am trying to find the name of a special kind of bolt that is self locking. I need them to bolt the trailing arm fork brackets to the sills on my rover sd1. I binned the originals as the were corroded, now I need new ones. They look like conventional bolts but instead of circular they are faintly triangular in profile and may also have a helical cut along the threaded section. I've searched on the web but can't find exact what I'm looking for. Does anyone know what they are called?

Hi, They're self tapping bolts by the sound of it, they're usually just wound in to boss in the sill wall with a gun at the factory. You need to find the thread size and pitch, or its closest one and run a clearance tap through and use the appropriate bolt.

Ahh ok. When I rebuilt the sills I welded in plain m10 square weld nuts, so maybe I should just use plain bolts and locking washers?

Yeah, Just use threadlock.
Avoid locking washers - They make things worse in almost every case. Threadlock and a stout plain washer is best.
Loctite Blue is "medium strength" and more suitable to stuff that's a larger diameter thread, with red it might be a nightmare to remove without heat.
