Thanks for the kind words. Paint is pretty easy really? I used high solids rather than base & clearcoat so it's easier to blow in. I did mine in the garage with no real special conditions apart from excellent fume extraction fan and a gallon of water on the floor - makes a huge difference in paint finish - no more 'bits' in the paint. A touch up brush and small blow in gun each year will probably be needed. Thanks for replying. I'll give it a try! Probably towards end of the year.

Having followed this since I have joined, I want, rather need to add my salute! Amazing work! How is it done, how do you recommend to, or how do you plan to keep non metallic black paint in the pristine finished condition your vehicle is heading for? I plan to redo a W124 Mercedes from bare metal up within the next year and, looking at the price of a professional respray in metallic black (which I will ALWAYS fault!),I shiver. There is this little devil sitting on my shoulder whispering "Psssst.... BLACK! YOURSELF!" Your opinion appreciated!

Already many useful tips! Hope we'll see ideas on planning and making up project looms and sub looms, logic and safe routes (heat and damage), easy to use donor fuse boxes with maximum number of fuses to accommodate EVERYTHING inclusive of sound system components etc, stealth looms and what else is needed for security - alarms, fuel cut offs etc, calculating battery size, kill switches and/or in line battery cable fuses. Trip switches in stead of fuses, dash tell tale light for bulb failure - the list goes on! Thanks!

Thank you! I believe the specs will be identical as the P100 in the UK originated from SA where it was designed and initially build. It seems as if the height of the sides changed somewhere during the production life of these vehicles.

Could you use a ldv van gearbox to rear wheel drive it as the ldv used a peugeot motor Are you saying the Ford P100's used a Pug diesel engine? That should make it simpler.

Before you go down the diesel route do you have the option of LPG ? Often LPG works out cheaper than diesel in UK but obviously it depends on price of diesel and LPG. LPG is around 80p ltr whereas diesel is 135 litre. Of course a diesel engine is more economical but that is offset by LPG being 2/3 of the price. Paul h *Ashamed* for not having considered the LPG option. Coincidentally seeing someone tonight or tomorrow morning who should be able to give input into this regarding practicality, conversion costs and running costs.

peugeot xup9 engine - bulletproof, mechanical so no wiring to sort. If you can get a gearbox to fit you've only got the mounts to sort..... You probably mean the xu D9 engine. Seems to be a good option and I shall investigate. What mileage can one expect out of these engines? Are they expensive as far as spares are concerned?

Was the sierra not sold in SA with a TD? easy swap in a cortina ? Alternativly the pug 2.1, 2.3 and 2.5 TD were fitted to the sierra and granada so B/Hs are available "somewhere" to bolt one to a ford gearbox for ease of fittment (no tunnel or prop mods ect). No diesel Sierras or Granadas I am aware of. In which Pugs were 2.1, 2.3 and 2.5 engines fitted? Older French cars are relatively cheap here.

I would imagine being in S.A that the Peugeot 504 diesel engine would be the easiest to source, and probably also install seeing as the Sierra did use a Peugeot sourced engine (though not sure it was the same 504 lump) OM sounds like it would be bloody brilliant though, but inevitably quite a lot more work and probably far more expensive. Unfortunately 504's have become almost extinct in SA. Most rust(ed) in piece(s) unfortunately, all with dangerously high km's and neglected.

the p100 is rwd if i get it right? i'd suggest a mercedes OM651 out of a 190D fairly economical but also indestructible and RWD get one with a manual 5 speed for eco bonus Correct - all P100's were RWD. Will talk to my MB friends re the feasibility and availability of an OM651 engine - thanks.
