Ultimate solution! I shall watch this with great interest! Good luck! What km/miles on the respective vehicles? The W123 that's getting this V6 has only covered ~75k but the lack of use hasn't really done the engine any good and the V6 has done ~144k so doubling the mileage on the engine but its modern and a Merc so nothing for one of these R144k hardly run in. 75k on platform should also be good news. Should be a fairly simple transplant, though each one has its challenges. Looking forward to this! (Keep the original engine in storage in case you want to reverse it in future.)

I've been looking at W220s but most seem to have terrible rust issues, caused by the introduction of water based paint technology I've been told. Some say it's also because of the construction of the car itself, the different metals react with each other and end up accelerating corrosion, I can't confirm how true this statement is though. Regardless, W220s are rust buckets. W220's were mostly sorted from the 2003 face lift models - galvanised bodies etc, other issues also sorted. I'm in the market for a four seater S500.

Our Audit Team used one of these in late 70's. Was quite good, but the lack of power when fully laden, was frustrating. Would there be a reasonably powerful straight swop Toyota engine that could solve the problem?

Thank you! I am in South Africa. Anything that moves is worth money here - nothing cheap, no cheap donor cars. Saab owners here still expect collectors piece money for their cars. BUT! My neighbour has a convertible (don't know further particulars)which has not been driven for at least a year and was apparently replaced by a C class coupe. I wonder if someone around here has the Saab computer!

In terms of work required, you are a brave man... Rare with all interesting detail! Empi engines must be super rare nowadays and must have been a luxurious transplant somewhere in its life! (Hope you do not hear the jealousy in my voice!)

As soon as I hit the jackpot! Would like to see how they fitted THAT! I like the insurance of a powerful engine. I like the fun factor of a powerful engine. I like the surprise factor of a powerful engine - when dad's boy cannot believe his GTi is after all not the quickest in town.

Would the Berlingo accommodate a bigger engine, say from the C4, with which I believe it shares a floor pan? Hopefully without requiring outsourced R&D,or at least without turning into a years long project! A quick Google search did not return anything. Amazing the variation of simple campers designed for these vehicles. Interesting that the vehicle is also available as a seven seater. You could do a 1.6 8v petrol on the existing mount work, but the 'chassis' will take stuff like a 1.9 turbo diesel, or even a 2.1 12V turbo diesel, Mi16 16V petrol, and if you are brave even the 3 litre V6... The V6 sounds like fun! From which car in company? Do you expect it to be doable?
