Just to back up what Dez has written from a professional point its either Milwaukee or Dewalt. The general consensus is that Milwaukee just edges it on quality but is also more expensive. From a Drill/Driver point I've got a Dewalt DCD985/DCF886 since August 2014 along with several other Dewalt 18v bits which all still work including the 4aH batteries. I see the linked double kit from Screwfix as Dewalts domestic range. It will be a step up from your old Makita but the quality isn't there. The Screwfix drill has a plasticy chuck rather then metal and you can feel a noticable difference in quality. I would buy a DCD796 £62 & DCF887 w/ 2x2aH £130 for £12 more then screwfix or look at a different brand. If you're drilling lots the DCD996 is a step up from the DCD796 but also £40 more and possibly overkill. And as Christmas is coming up I'll leave this here. DCD899 £1455 Amp Battery £55Hope that helps. Nick

Just to kill my dreams, I'm guessing at 6ft2 with large feet (and stomach) this isn't the car for me.
Either way it looks mega.

Again another vote for google maps. I download offline maps before trips abroad and have the entire UK saved.
Also has a timeline feature which lets you view location history. Great for when you have a bad memory like me.
The camera locations and roadworks/road closures are not perfect. But the mapping and traffic avoidance is better the anything else Ive used. Also has a GPS speedo which helps.

I’d throw my hat in to the ring for buying it but I’m holding out for it to be resprayed first 😂 hahahahahahaha I didn't want to ruin the final reveal, but everyone can see through your double bluff (or is it triple by now). I've deduced from the lack of car pictures for the last week it must be in primer by now. Another week and BMW Heritage come to collect.

Enjoying the build thread and can see why you only sell a car a decade.
Also glad there is a waiting list as this is a proper bargain.

As above, some digs, some moderation and now Chris/JB unfortunately no longer contribute here. But can be found on instagram. Clicky and a couple of other threads around the same time for the full back story.

hi, my garage is set well behind the house and don't cover much of the garden but it does sit on the rear boundary which is a river so don't meet other gardens, and ye the garage is double pitched roof infact when I bought my house everyone thought it was the neighbours bungalow next too my house lol, its got windows at the front and the entrance is on the side which u cant see from the front just a big window. I like the idea of having a garage that people mistake for a house, sounds nice. As its a river I'm guessing your more then two metres away from the boundary, so you can raise the roof to 4m as you want but need to keep the eaves height below 2.5m as described nicely in point 7 of TessierAshpool 's link. The 30sqM is to do with building regulations. Which you'd fall under officially. I'd either try and speak to you local builder/roofer or the council to find out whats needed to sign off a re-roof. But at that point it seems painful I'd consider planning permission to go taller like Nathan's build on here. Or build something separate under 30sqM internally as you can never have too much space.

I've been looking into this for myself and as Jim says permitted development lets you build up to 4m but with restrictions like a dual pitch roof. Also as a outbuilding technically has to be single storey so the storage space would be ladder accessed. Only other main things is that you are 2m away from the boundary and the existing garage doesn't stick out past the front of your house. Overview of permitted development from the web. Class E – Buildings etc. (outbuildings) This allows for an outbuilding to be erected within a residential curtilage as long as it is sited behind the principal (often the front) elevation, does not cover more than 50% of the curtilage and is not more than 3m in height (4m for a dual-pitched roof; 2.5m where within 2m of a boundary). Link to GOV site (p41 onwards)Obviously slightly different if your in a area of outstanding natural beauty etc.

As said above you have plenty of space and my first thoughts are you're wasting it without floor - ceiling storage.
First I* would push the porsche out of the way and prioritise getting shelving along the full width of the back/RHS wall. Even behind the sofa you can't actually see and have that area for wheels/random wings. If not you would in my mind end up with dead space infront of the sofa.
If you can't find anything on gumtree/freecycle/.. I would go with a 2x2 frame and 12mm ply shelves. B&Q/Homebase (worth checking first) usually offer a free cutting service. I would get either 4 or 5 equidistant horizontal cuts (allow for blade) and build your shelves freestanding at 1220 wide and either 400 or 480ish deep. I would screw/fix the free standing shelves to the wall but being built separately will help in the future when you want to modify/paint behind etc.
Doing this might not be what you want and even if it is I still envision you going back to paint/varnish it or do something with the now annoying socket behind. But this is something achievable in a day with a second person that gives instant space, time and motivation.
Space to be able to go in and fix the porsche/work on something garage journal worthy for the other side.
Time from not having to move everything to do anything.
and that MoJo boost from having made a start and walking into a clear space to work.
Even if you take it down in 2 years time the materials can be repurposed.
Also is the c-tek charger like mine brought from one of ChasR's many recommendations.
Nick.
*I wouldn't actually do this as I procrastinate and over think every detail, but advice is easy to give behind a keyboard.

I think you already know soldering is the best way to join stranded wires. Any reason you don't want to solder?
To answer you're question though, having multiple loops using connectors is a bad idea, instead of one weak spot with a join you end up with five or six.
If you're set on not using solder you should have all the cables coming from the same direction, strip back 1" on each and twist together till tight, then fold the cable strands in half back on themselves and use one connector. Having all the cables entering from the same direction isn't the most aesthetic joint but better then having a risk of forces act on the joint.

Really to find out you would need to get a multimeter and find out what the pins do in each position of the switch. Potentially it does only use six of the eight and the extra pins are that it is a adapted part.
Personally though as it looks like you can get your hand around the back look at extending the switch by tapping a small screw or glueing a L or T shaped piece of plastic onto the existing switch so it protrudes. Marking with a sharpie on the front Left is 8, Mid is 6 and Right is 4 and just gently changing by feel when you need to.
I know its a bit of a bodge, but for the amount of use the switch will get it seems alot of hassle to take it apart and de/resolder.
Also worst case the above breaks the switch and you have to fit the rotary switch you where going to in the first place.
