So coursework is finished, so had a good night tinkering away. Fitted a new water gauge and killswitch Had a fight with some wheel bearings, they lost Fitted the front disc conversion brackets Had a fight with the ali leaf spring mounting blocks, I lost Got the spring off and taken apart, ready for re-greasing and I'll experiment with lowering. I cant afford welding gas until the end of the month, so the body work will have to wait. I've nearly done everything I can do in terms of bushes n ting so it should just be more cosmetic stuff now. I can sort some speakers out etc so I'll get on with that tomorrow.

Ah fair enough, I haven't worked on the fiat for a few years so doing better than me at the moment. Glad you'll have something sweet to go to RRG in. If the powers that be are kind I might just make it in the fiat, but who knows. Would be awesome too, but don't want a deadline!
Ive seen the 165/55s go on wellers with ease by hand, no lighter fluid in sight, so it can be done easy. Was on the volvo 360 that was at lydden hill when we went. Quite a nice stretch to be honest. Not too silly but enough not to have to tub arches!

Cheers guys!
Robin, those are the 185/60s I had on the volvo. The profile on them means I'd have to loose a LOT of the front arches to get clearance, hence going for a pretty extreme stretch with the 165/55s. How is the chev btw?
Hope you get it sorted soon wagoneer, FIAT MASSIVE!

Managed to replace the gear box mounts, as well as the tie rods as they were both kaput. I'm surprised the gearbox was still being held up! Tie rods put up waaay less of a fight than I expected. Allowed an hour for one side and did them both in under 30 minutes. Not bad for a car whos hald a life has been spent sat in a garden exposed!

Gave in two dissertation reports today, treated myself to some time on the BIS. Whipped the rear panel off and gave the oil filter a good clean. Real simple job to be honest, so long as you ignore the sheared bolts, ha ha . . . Mmmm mucky. The oil must have been in the engine since it was hauled up. Its a good few years old, but surprisingly still oil like. A good sign I guess. A good dose of engine flush wont go a miss when I get round to changing the oil.

Put everything I need to do on the fiat on the board. Loads of stuff to do, should have a good amount of time to do a lot of it after uni. Done the plugs and leads etc. Got a new fuel filter on order and other small bits. Nothing else to report really. Getting ever closer to properly cracking on with it though! Been looking into methods of lowering the front. It seems the best cheapest way is to swap keaves around and grind the mounting blocks down. Should be pretty do-able on the uni XYZ. Don't know if they'll come off the car mind, mmmmm galvanic corrosion.

Christ, never thought I'd see the day but its nearly here. Bits for the little beast have started turning up. Ordered a shed load of parts from bushes, to panels, to bearings so once hand ins at uni are done I can FINALLY get cracking. In between the chaos we managed to move house AGAIN, this time for the better as I've now got a double garage to work the car. Come mid april, Rich "Max Damage" Skuse is coming round for a weekend of ALL the welding. Can't wait to get this project going again. In some down time I trial fitted the wellers that were on the volvo, onto the fiat. They'll fit, but not without arches! Plan is to convert the hubs to studs, and use wobble nuts and spigots and rock a 165/55 profile tyre. They're 30 quid each new so can't complain. For now though, most important thing is to get the welding done and start sorted things out for an MOT at some point in the future. It'd be AWESOME to have it going for the gathering but I'm not aiming for it. Deadlines don't agree with me. Weld the front on, new front quarters, electrics (indicator/light stalks etc), fog light, and engine work all need to be sorted. Bring on April. Anyway, watch this space.

Chances are the steering column will foul the intake manifold on the williams. You can flip it by chopping off both ends (throttle body and the blank end) and re-welding it,but I don't know how many more clearance issues there would be, I cant think of any off the top of my head. As for OP's volvo, great motor. Battered but well loved. Any plans for it? Williams swaps are good, pretty easy to do and adds a lot more power. Only issue is prop failure, which I'm battling with at the moment. Here's mine. Goes like stink and drifts well, just a shame about the props. Hopefully see you on V3M at some point.

James helps Si wire in a posh headunit Mark wires in the new fan Pip battles on with the water pump Dave gets his own lord carriage Rich welds up the XG filter bracket and then assists with the headunit fitting Someone finds a winch, and Dave magically appears on it. SUPER DAVE!! Jonny's mucky face Mark gets the volvo on the ramp for some bushing work Si tests out the sounds Gibbo likes a greased up woman, just look at his face! Rich then welds up a trizorst for Mark's volvo. Its very "marmite". Pip still struggles on with the BMW's water pump. Filled it with coolant, via the patented Mathmos system, but two bleed screws and a few litres of coolant later it sprung a leak from an old crusty pipe. Luckily being plastic was bonded back together, which got her home. I think. Looking forward to the next one, was great to get back to the unit again and see everyone!

Gibson has the great idea to fit ALL THE LIGHTS to hirux Washer sorting, feared by many. One brave soul takes up the challenge. YEAH SPARKS! Si and Jonny discuss the '13 Pip's beemer is brought in for a water pump change Ha! Bring on the sun. Meirion gives pip a hand with the pump Gibson finds its not just ball joints on their way out, The rear ARB has pulled through! Rich starts to fab up a jorb filter for his newly acquired XG Dave battles on with a scrap BBQ

Robin, thats an understandable reason not to go! Rich, I went to bed. Shove it. Here's your blasted pics (love you! lol no homo) So when I arrive Jonny "tippers" tipping has the rear subframe of his S13 out fitting solid bushes. Si rocks up in his slammed merc Rich is satisfied he fixed a light . . . it was unfortunately too bust to work properly James adjusts the NOS timing a couple of milliseconds so Jonny can run nines. Mark attacks a pair of fans to help cooling as he rids the volvo estate of its viscousness Si's Merc's interior. Much resin, such wood, wow. Here's me helping Jonny put the subframe back in. I say help, I mean look at, go "I'm unsure" and sit there. Thanks to pip for the pic. Gib helps direct the subframe in He resorts to jumping up and down, which works! Cracking picture pip! Mark "The beard of magnificence" Case finds a sandwich. And is pleased. The remnants of the S13's old bushes

Here are the pics from September's weekend. I was taking the Micra this time as it failed the MOT on a few bits. I unfortunately arrived in the Micra a bit beaten up after having an accident with another car on the way. I didn't expect the car in front to stop at a green light, I locked up and clouted the rear bumper. Still alive though! I get started in the morning checking out what was what. Outside, Bruce is straightening the Delica's front bar. James quickly snaps up the wing and starts beating back into shape. He does the same with the Micra As thats going on, Rob helps Sven swap the front discs on his Citroen After that me and Rich take a trip to bucklands in gloucester to grab some bits for the micra (replacement headlight, sidelight and indicator). When we get back after nomming some KFC, James beats the crash bar of the datsun back into shape. Everything back on, NEARLY as good as it was! Bruce the pap master. That night, the guys start to work on the Dodge to breath some life into the beast. It squeals into life. I moved the Micra off the ramp to sort the major MOT failure, A MASSIVE HOLE Fabbing up some steel, and with James's panel making/beating skills, one sill is born. After some more fettling with the Dodge, it manages to move under its own steam. We all pile in and go for a cheeky test drive Mark, trapped inside Peado Collins is watching . . . A wild Gibson turns up and naturally some awesome wheels are tested Mark and Rich go to pick up Mark's latest purchasing, and have a tweak. I'm looking forward to the next one, this time with no accident on the way there!!

Having a bit of a sort out, all bits located in Chepstow NP16 but can arrange postage/meet part way if wanted. got 5 Volvo 340 steels I was using for drift wheels, but now I've put discs on the rear these no longer fit. 5 of these: 13x5" 4x100 PCD 52mm CB ET 38 tatty but would make good doriftuuuu!!! wheels. Some have tyres already on them (good for a drift day) but none legal. 2 tyres are dead so the tyres will be removed. Can be supplied with a fair few 175/70/13 tyres (again no good fro road but enough rubber for drifting on). £30 for the 5 wheels and the tyres 4 VW donut steels, good condition. These wont be supplied with tyres. 13x5.5" 4x100 PCD 57.1 CB ET 38 £40 3 13x10 weller steel wheels. Very rusty, tyres are shagged, but wheels may be recoverable. Bought for the Fiat 126, now think it was a silly idea. 13x10 4x108 PCD £20? BRAND NEW HEL brakelines. Ordered some custom lines and they sent me a pair with the wrong fittings on one end. Clear purple coating with a rubber grommet and swivel M10X1 male ends both ends. 290mm length end to end M10x1 swivel fittings (stainless) £20 + postage Fiat 126 BIS front and rear bumpers. Not in good nick but a sand back and some paint should see them right. Not running them on the Fiat so just taking up space. FREE to whoever wants to pick them up. Happy to take paypal.

So when I turn up for the pre-gathering meet up, Rich and Bruce are already there tinkering. Rich is washing the MG and getting to, "know" it I jack up the volvo quickly to sort out a failed exhaust hanger rubber After, Bruce and Rich are working on the Daimler, getting a roof rack to fit it which was a little out of shape and needed some adjustment As Bruce does that, Rich sorts out the Daimler's rear door locks Pow, fitted and sorted with an equally patina'd BMX Mr 606 then arrives and begins work on chopping the springs As Rich finds a larger exhaust tip and merrily welds it to the rear I decide I need some tyre writing on the Vovlo's sidewalls. With Bruce's help we start it off Rich then gets to work on restoring 606's wheels Sitting pretty 606 gets cracking on a spring First spring cut, and Bruce welds a holding tab on the lower spring cup to stop them from dis-locating I try out the stencil That night we all get a good nights kip ready for the road trip in the morning to prescott for RRG 2013!!
