Haven't updated this in a while I've been very vusy woth work. Anyway, thanks for the comments guys! Ironic when here in Australia the JDM fanboys love that new driver sticker and put it on their cars. Yeah funny ain't it? Exactly the same as in the UK. Ironically I'd happily rock one in the UK. are you in japan, if so is there any chance of finding out whether a rear window louvre for a 79 celica is availabale out there. Thanks & appreciated I had a quick look on yahoo! Auctions but I couldn't find anything. If you use google translate and certain words, you can use the Japanese auction sight pretty easily. Shipping a louvre to the UK is a big risk though I'd think! Love the car and would definitely like to hear more about living in Japan What would you want to know dude? As for the car, I've "updated" the headunit to an of the period Alpine one, I won on Yahoo for cheap. It's really cool as it has a 3 disc CD changer cartridge built into the front. So to change a CD the whole cartridge almost ejects out and moves back in again once the disc is swapped. Awesome. A quick google and the only thing I found on the headunit system was this advert for it in Japanese. Check out how much they were brand new! Crazy money! It really suits the car and although the graphic equaliser of the old one was cool, it really wasn't doing it for me. I also managed to find some Recaro SR2 seats in grey to fit in and some GX71 rails (the GX71 saloons and the GX70 wagons are pretty much the same car underneath) so they mount nicely. I'm not using the car for "agro moves" but it lowers me a good inch in the seat (I'm pretty tall) and they hold people a bit better, and they're a lot comfier than the standard ones I found. Also, bonus car spot! Classic Fiat 500 out on the road. Really cool. I'm really surprised and happy to see so many cool cars out so often.

Cheers for the comments guys. Sorted my avatar, it was funny a few years ago, but no so much any more. So measuring the driveway is mandatory unless you live out in the country somewhere. Driving round, it makes sense. The suburban roads are pretty narrow, and it's nice to drive around without seeing one just dumped at the side of the road. There's plenty of parking normally in cities etc when you want to go visit places, reasonably priced a lot of the time too so it's fine in that respect. As for how weird it is, I'd say it's different, but the weirdness isn't actually that obvious. I think that a lot of the weird is exported and thrown out on social media so that's all people see. Working here, although some days are pretty long, it's pretty straight forward. Luckily a lot of what i deal with is in English, and with people who can speak it (at least a little) so we can get by ok. Scottydugg, what car would you have chosen? There was a lot of choice, but I wanted something old and practical, I really like old 80's estates (I know it's a '92 but it's definitely stuck in the 80's). There's room on the drive for another car so maybe at some point we'll get something else too. We'll see. We went for a long drive a little while ago, trying to find some good mountain roads. Just looking on google maps and find the windiest roads we can. One was nice but pretty narrow . . . But the road on the other side was great. Evening trip to the BIGGEST Super Autobacs I've ever seen (like Halfords on steroids), but sells a lot of decent performance brands like Tein etc. Turns out it's the big one that you see a lot on the internet. That neon sign is awesome! Note the "JDM" new driver sign on the back, legally I have to have that on for a year, front and back whilst driving. It did however magically disappear soon after though. Ruins the aesthetics! But anyway, bought me the best sunscreen I've ever seen!

You are literally living my dream, you lucky, lucky sob! Yeah, I'm not quite sure how I got here! And Rich, steady on. Had a tinker with the car at the weekend. Took up the slack in the throttle and clutch pedal, which has it feel better. I also measured up the snapped bracket. You can see it in the far left of the photo below, where the second silicone join is. Had to bodge it with cable ties for now (which is soooo wrong) as I can't find any scrap metal to make the bracket out of, but there's a B&Q equivalent somewhere so once I get a chance I'll see what I can find. Had a flick through the manual, all in Japanese but the diagrams are cute! If that's possible. The car was owned by a Toyota mechanic, and he's kept a record of everything that's been done to the car. There's nothing in the owners book, it's completely empty, no dealer stamps at all, but looking at the condition of the engine bay I have no reason to doubt the work's been done! Again, all in Japanese but I've been taken through it by the guy I bought it off. Cam belt done at around 86000km, serviced just before I bought it. Sweet. Love the lines of this thing. Wasn't sure about the yellow headlights at first but they've grown on me.

Wow, had to double take on those seats! Actually looks pretty solid from the pictures, sort of surprising considering the interior! Amazing what nature can do.

So here we are. An opportunity came along that me and the wife couldn't pass up, and so we moved to Japan. 3 months on from arriving, a whole month since seeing the car and paying for it. The system here is pretty backwards and slow, especially compared to how DVLA deal with vehicle transfers. I will NEVER complain about the car buying process in the UK. It's a walk in the park by comparison. Going to the police station so they can come and measure the driveway, going to the ward office to get complete forms so I can get a registration, sorting the bank out as there's transfer limits etc etc. All this whilst not speaking any Japanese. I was asking for it really. But none of that matters now! Freedom! It's a 1992 Toyota MKII, with a late Toyota Cresta headlight/grill swap. It purrs, it really does. Found it on Goo Net, like the autotrader equivalent in Japan, at a dealership called Three Piece!. Actually went to see a different one, but when I turned up, the lot was full of cool old cars. A limited edition 300ZX had just been prepped for sale, and a good few MKII wagons were in too. There were a few Soarers, and some VIP style more modern cars too. Really cool place. Super nice guy too who ran the place. The car just before I bought it. So, with the help of my Japanese friend (I cheated and had him help translate, I would have loved to speak fluently but that will take some time!), after looking around it, discussing bits, could you fix this bit respray that bit, we agreed on a price and then I started the long process of getting the car on the road. Normally the dealership does a lot of it, but as we live in Nagoya and the dealer was in Gifu (a few hours drive), it was up to me. But it was worth the wait. Went to pick it up, drove a few blocks out of the dealership and we came across an old garage, loads of Hachirokus and Honda Citys just parked outside! Couldn't believe it! It's amazing what you come across down the back roads, as a car guy it really is awesome! The GTO and 911 Porsche were the icing on the cake. Really was a dream come true, finding all this. I was 12 again. Got the MKII home no problems. The next day we drove straight back out to Gifu to find some empty roads and just go for a drive. Topped off the day with a trip to Off House (A furniture chain of the comically named Hard Off second hand store chain). Boxy estates, the best things for carrying furniture! I've swapped out the steering wheel with one I'd brought over from the UK and a Toyota gear knob I got off Yahoo! Auctions, and got an unnecessarily large rear view mirror too, that blocks the (loose) sun visors. But it stops them falling down randomly, which is something I need to sort. Also got some typically cheap vent mount cup holders, which are surprisingly sturdy. Note also the fully 90's double DIN head unit cassette player. Going to make some mix tapes for ultimate nostalgia! Some other things I need to sort, there's a bracket that holds the air filter housing in place that's snapped, the bonnet/boot gas struts need re-gassing/replacing, and I need to find some centre caps for the wheels. Might see about adjustable coilovers/dampers as the ride is pretty crashy (just lowering springs at the moment), and the sun visors, but there's not a lot to sort out! So, it might not be that eventful a car really, but I'm looking forward to the adventures we're going to have in it!

Pair of good used condition Sparco Sprint Junior bucket seats. Base mount, easily fitted to universal seat rails. One of which has one mounted still, came out of a Volvo 340. One has some weld spatter and burn marks on the side (see pictures) but there's no rips. I fit in them fine at 6'2" and a 36"-38" waist, and they're sturdy seats which hold you securely. They are out of FIA approval date, one was up in 1999 and the other was 2003. £80 collected from Chepstow or Bristol, but I'm going to Essex next week if anyone over that way wants them dropping off.
