Yep. I find that, if I get a Chinese guy in China to weld something using identical kit and materials there's a MUCH higher chance than if I get a Brit to weld it in Germany using materials from Spain. If only we'd got Big Gazz from Croyden to weld it in Basildon using a welder from Taiwan using steel from Sheffield...

You need to take this one up on very, very strong terms. This was a potential fatality.

Hobby king is the best around. also the cheapest coming from China! for the main drive I would use the highest lowest KV brushless motor you can find. you need something with torque just like a diesel for heavy slow turning props not many waterproof motors but you can get azipod/kort nozzles or voith drives if you want to make some sort of DP system the ship I work on has DP3 with 5 azipods but I have no idea how it works mechanical speed controllers were dangerous unreliable things, a nice waterproof ESC should be an easy purchase. let me see the pics so I can get an idea of size and ill break it down to whats needed for where Thanks for that. Pics will come (phone camera broken). What's a "highest lowest KV brushless"? Highest what, lowest what? lol thought I'd stepped into a Dr Seuss book then! You had DP3 on a model vessel?? Triple redundancy? Bit extreme! Haha! *edit Sorry reread your post. Your actual ship not model lol!! My old ship was DP2, I can make a DP system work, manual is easy, automated less so. To be fair gos tech isn't accurate enough to make it work so can't use GPS hats on arduino boards but hoping I can cheat by using a combo of a DRDF system based on the carrier signal from the controller combined with gps and electronic compass to sort if fudge something.

Maybe I could fit flanges by interference fitting? Use a Lathe to make both ends circular on the outside and then make flanges that could be interference fitted on the outside? Put the throttle bodies in the freezer and he flanges in the oven and then slip them together? Maybe but imagine the heartache if they didn't seal properly...

You got me looking at scoop bins, is that really another form of transmission line (TLS)? My dad had a pair of IMF TLS90 speakers that sounded good but were a bit on the large size. No different design. The scoop goes low. Properly low. But have cancellation issues as certain frequencies. They are popular with reggae bass guitarists and such. TLS is a midrange. Similar principles though. Folded horns and dual reflex bins are good too. All depends really on what freq response you want. Back loaded vs from loaded, folded vs reflex vs scoop, scoop with taper horn etc. Its as customisable as engines.

Inductive charging is what we really need. Sadly advances in tech aren't going to change the physical laws to which we are bound, but what we can do is start to change infrastructure and attitudes now. And that will be the biggest change. Not technology, but how society operates. What we accept as "normal". That will be what really solves the problems... Not fixing the broken unsustainable current situation, but stepping sideways to something new.
The next generation will see things very differently to us, just as we differ from the last. Our take on what is acceptable will be worlds apart from our successors. Societal norms will shift, and perhaps one day we will talk to our great grand kids about how we owned a car and they will ask "why?".
In the last 60 years there have been monumental changes that no one really remembers or appreciates. Imagine what changes are to come?

............anyway. I was behind a Tesla yesterday and, yeah, I personally think they look the utter nads and I want one. I drive a remapped mk1 Octavia vrs as a daily. I drove a Nissan Leaf for the first time the other day, and, well... It impressed me. Even the 50 mile range of the one I was driving didn't bother me (figured I only ever have a quarter of a tank of fuel in so about the same with my driving lol). Honestly tried to hate it and I just couldn't. I got utterly utterly spanked by a Tesla a while back, and had to actually "wake up and try" to outpace a Renault Zoe a few months ago. As a through and through petrol head, its a hard hard thing to admit...

Thanks for the advise and help fellas, strikey how would I go about taking a mold, and casting a resin one? goodoldluke & fad thanks for the offer chaps, what would you need from me? BTW when do we get an update on your project thread I've had nothing worth writing to update it with! I'm kinda working on another project that I've been asked to write about on more than one occasion, so I'm hoping to puit something together in the near future which hopefully some will find interesting. Sadly it's not going to be 12 cars in a year though! I just need a 3D render of it and some time. But like I said you can go custom if we are printing them. Best bet is to send the cap to goodoldluke or me to draw it up, but for me time is very limited at the mo so turnaround would be slow if I was drawing. If you feel so inclined you can download Sketchup (its free and easy to use)and draw it with your measurements.

Thanks guys for the floor cracking info. Just out of interest, how much did it set you back to rectify? Cheers I love how a turbo that may go bang but is easy to replace scares you, but the potential of a cracked chassis you take in your stride  I find it really interesting the things different folk feel comfortable with - for me a cracked chassis issue is "walk away" territory (granted I repaired a cracked centre tunnel in my Volksrod) but a turbo going bang is just an excuse for a bigger turbo lol

Unfortunately there's not many about that haven't done mega mileages, aren't rough, too new, or just a lot more £££ than I'm wanting to spend on a 3rd car. I've found with the more desirable Japanese cars that they've either been modified or high milers. I wouldn't mind the latter if I'd put the miles on but I've found they seem to tire out quicker than German cars. In which case, the Mk1 Skoda Octavia vRS is the car for you 👌🏼 Seconded. I'm on my second. First one only got put to bed after it threw a gearbox seal at 240k and an identical one came up for sale at half the mileage and considerably less than a k so made one good car out of the pair. Both got abused as trailer haulers and hooligan antics by me. They are outstanding cars for the money. Bombproof, cheap bits, easy to service, easy to work on, and swift in stock form and a good giggle with a remap.

Mars has no gravitational field nor volcanic activity (indicator of an active core). Its why its atmosphere has been stripped. I wonder how the long term plan would work?

. Not sure who brought this up a while ago but it stuck in my mind. When cars took over from horses as the main mode of transport, horse did not disappear. They became a hobby, pastime and a whole new industry for people that loved horses. That is quite possibly what will happen to our beloved IC powered cars/ trucks etc. . That was me last time this topic came up.

Very interesting suggestions so far guys, thank you very much. Other than the beemer of that shape/year the only car that tickled my fancy was the Accord Type R as I used to own that model Accord (not Type R) and it was a good car - very Q.car other than the rear spoiler iirc? Buying anything other than N/A is a bit scary for me if I'm honest with myself. The Beemer is faster than anything I've owned before in standard mode and would be a great 0-70mph motorway car as I do quite a few 50 mile round trips on an A-road. I'm not looking to modify anything - standard or not at all for me. Out of interest why does a forced induction motor scare you?

As dbizzle can confirm you'll need more than £3k to get a TT that's not a moneypit. I had a budget of £2.5k not too long ago and almost every one I saw drive worse than my Mondeo V6 at the time with 250k on the clock and that's before I hit the other issues they had ; the people were getting rid of them for precisely that reason ; they had neglected them. True - I paid £3,500 for a 2001 TT 225 recently and I've had to spend another couple of grand on it since just getting it all up to snuff (cambelt, water pump, service, tyres, suspension, brakes etc). It's easily possible to find a TT under £3k, but that won't be all you'll be spending. TT that price is good for donor and breaking, that's it. The engine will have survivied and isn't too bad to rebuild if you are going to chuck it into another car anyway, but to run one? No ta!

That wouldn't take long to cad up really. get a good few detailed photos, and the important measurements (pcd and size of the little screws, height, diameter etc etc). I could get an STL over to fad by the weekend, I'm sure. PM me if you'd like. Course, he could have any design he likes if we are going that far... Wonder if we should retain the dent for "character" ?

Will print it in PET-G and then we can see if they fit! Though you will have to do a little work with the finish - don't expect diecast quality surface. You'll need to fettle it a bit but I'll do my best on my home-built rig (unless I get the STL after the parts arrive to build my new super duper 32 bit processor rig!).
