Amazing car and amazing photography!
Probably the best and most effective use of HDR that I've ever seen (as in, when you can clearly see that someone used it, you know they've gone too far)
One day I'd love to be able to take pics like that. Just stunning!

Just had a quick looky at some of his other shots on FlickR (will be returning later for a better look at all of them) The guys knows how to take a good snap and I am pretty sure he knows his way around photoshop too. His style is somewhere between photography, art and Gran Turismo photo mode. I personally love it! Some more featuring the Celica (there are plenty of other cars, but that's not what this thread is about) Thanks for posting up the images ZXRob. ;D

It was mainly the photography that impressed me even though the car is absolutely beautiful! I spent ages looking at his flickr last night and I thought it would be rude not to share these images with the good people of RR!

Wonder what camera was used and if they have been played with much. Nikon D50 for all photos, most of which with at 18mm (equiv of using a 28mm lens on a full frame body) There is a lot of post processing and I am pretty sure some use of HDR to get the effect, but as I said above...it's some of the best use of HDR I've yet seen in car photography. Lovely work and beautiful shots. [edit] While I'm looking it up HTW has beat me to it [/edit]

The Wiki link that Joe put up explains it fairly well. 99% of photos using HDR are overcooked (in my opinion) where they lose all depth thanks to the person not knowing where to stop with the functions! HDR is supposed to add depth through combining the range of tones that can't be captured in a single exposure. This gets forgotten about most of the time as people get carried away with all the settings then end up with the 'typical' HDR style shot that looks fake, artificial, flat and almost cartoon like. To me, this looks liek those tacky filters people play with in photoshop which renders their photo to look something like a painting. Here is a classic example of how HDR often ruins a photo (although some people seem to love this effect) Before: After (Overprocessed HDR) The guy shooting the Celica obviously knows how to use HDR to really enhance his work rather than turn it into something a bit tacky. When used carefully, it can be a very powerful way of enhancing a picture, but it's using the tool effectively that is where most people fail. I'd love to have a go myself sometime...it's pics like the ones of the Celica that make me realise that once in a while it can be done well with care and consideration. A lovely use of the process in a sea of overprocessed photos.

OOOF, just OOOOOF.
Car AND pictures. HDR is fun to play with, but indeed, very easy to overcook it and end up with crappy pictures.
