Classic engines A series - apart from oil leaks and rattly timing chains X-flow - a classic in all forms - OHV and Lotus twink versions Pinto - Group 1 head and big Webers ; not really a Cossie turbo fan. Rover V8 - lovely noise Fiat twin cam - RWD fun Peugeot Gti - instant throttle response BMW 6 pots - 12 and 24 valve versions smoother than Kylies bum covered in baby oil ;D sounds nicer too

Nissan FJ20 turbo... Nissan S20 (mmm twincam 2l six as found in C10/C110 GTR's, and Z432's) Mazda 12A turbo Fiat/Alfa/Lancia twin cams Toyota 4AGE and 18RG (18RG was basis of the Celica rally cars of old!) Alfa V6..... IMO one of the best sounding engines ever!

my mates putting one in his satin black e36 3 series( not retro i know but worth a mention) Sounds interesting! Is the e36 the one after the e30? Not very good with Bimmer E-numbers! Was the Nissan engine ever mounted to drive the rear wheels, or does he have a cunning plan to mount it to a BMW box?

the crossflow was so speical because of what it spawned! from the crossflow, came the lotus twincam, which was whacked straight onto a 711m 1.6 xflow lump. you also had the bgd, and the bdt lumps used in the rs1800 and rs200 respectively, the bdt in rs200 evo guise pumped out 650bhp! admittidly it shared parts as the original xlfow, but some of the desings remained. also it was the shear number of cars they were fitted to! from the everything from escorts, cortina's, capri's, consul's anglia's right through to mk2 festers. inm fact, the very first cosworth engine was a crossflow! fitted to an anglia, never release to the public of course

nissan sr20det came in the s14 so yeah rear drive. my friend is switching from 3.0 M3 engines cos he keeps breaking them, so hes using nissan engine and box and getting a prop made up. to suit. yeah e36 is one after the e30, normally associated with wannabe important people but my mates is actually pretty impressive images10.fotki.com/v201/photos/4/43405/2455619/jae05012-vi.jpg i think got a retro feel to it, sprayed with spray cans, bought for £150 with a duff 1.8 engine and built on a budget, plus deep dish alloys with a good offset.

That Bimmer looks frickin staunch as! Top work! SR20 power should be cool too, I've seen a few conversions in NZ in earlier E30s!
Sorry to be a nitpicker, but the SR20 itself (ok ok so it was an SR20DE!) first appeared in the P10 Primera! Pulsar (Sunny for you guys I think) GTi-R was the first to get the SR20DET, along withe the U12 Bluebird SSS Attesa. Then the S13 Silvia K's scored it around 91 in it's first RWD guise...

Actually Rich... to be tremendously anal. the the PS13 (ie, SR20DET Silvia) came about in 1990 (two years after the launch of the S13 range) and the RPS13 (ie, SR20DET 180SX) received it in 1991. I know you said "around 91" .. I'm just clarifying ;D

Yep, the engine was developed with help from Lotus and Yamaha. The 4AGE is a damn good replica of the Lotus Twincam, except (as my father informs me) it don't have oil leaks that settle around the spark plug holes as per the old Lotus Cortina ;D

the pinto went from the puny 1300 lump found in rare as fook sierra sapph 2 doors They didn't do a booted 2 door did they? You mean three door - hatchback?

no, i mean booted 2 door, like i said, they only came in the 1.3 option, and are, frankly rare as poor quality wobbly children's play pony wibblepoo, i was after one for about 5 years, but i never even heard of one for sale, let alone havig the chance to buy one!
it was the only thing (may be wrong) that the 1.3 pinto came in, so once again, a rare as fook engine.

I'm pretty certain that none of my Ford Car range catalogues from the time of the Sapphire have a 2 door in. Or was it some Argentinian/brazilian variant? A mate of mine had a 1300 Capri, but I can't remember if it was a Pinto or not. I CAN remember that it was painfully slow!
