Okay they are modern,.. but they are destined for future retro status,.. and I'm going to be replacing my daily driver this year (that or taking the Golf off the road and swapping the ending) ...
So...
Which cars are classed as kei cars that were imported into thie country.
So far my tiny brain can remember : Honda Beat Mazda AZ-1 Suzuki Cappuccino Daihatsu Copen
A bit of reading has pulled up Daihatsu Mira TRXX Suzuki RS Works
Any more (I know there are LOADS) ,... could do with a list.

Maihatsu Mira Avanzato TR-XX Turbo 4WD oh-mama... It's the best of a good bunch ;D *n I'll second that. Drove one a few years back, absolute hoot. Amazing what you can do with 660cc. The ultimate point and squirt machine as you can steer it on the throttle so easily and never need touch the brakes!

Sweet. I reckon they could look really tasty with the right mods. Good call

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keicar - good page I reckon an AZ-1 with a bike lump (GSXR600 or a 750 lump to keep within the spirit of the thing) would be a riot. *n

I think Kei Class refers to a Japanese taxation class of cars, basically I think the reason most of those Kei cars have like 660cc and weigh like half a tonne is because under Japanese law those cars have really cheap road tax. The advantage isn't as clear here, but I dare say they still have loads of potential. Well, some of them, I've never been able to warm to Wagon Rs and the like, but I have driven a Suzuki Cappucino and it was mad! You hear motoring journalists proclaiming this or that roadster to be "a modern day MG Midget" or similar all the time, but the Cappucino really is as close to a new Midget or Sprite as you're likely to find these days, they actually have classic roadster character, whearas in the West our car companies seem to think that making a modern-day classic involves nothing more than a dull to drive modern hatch that looks a little like the original and has some chrome stuck around the place, they ususally forget about the character of the original, the Suzuki actually feels like classic roadster, even more so than the MX5 I reckon.

A 1.4 K Series would have been more than enough - I've been a passenger in a Midget 1500 that had been fitted with a 1.4 K, and it was very quick!!! ;D
