Everyone keeps bugging me about it now! I bought it to replace the metro cous i needed the economy for silly roadtrips... Looked for one for a while, eventualy plumped for this one off ebay in March, one lady owner, 40k job.. Wasnt as straight forward as i was hopeing. Id heard they were 4x4.5" and 4x3.75"...... and 4x100mm..... and can you belive 4x4" from some failure too!!! i had some 4x4.5s lined up but turns out they are 4x100 so that went down the pan and a rim hunt started.. Anyone who says 4x100 is a good pcd to have is curse word insane.... its awful!! all the good wheels are taxed more than petrol and all you can find for sensible money are cruddy narrow OEM wheels. even the usual suspects like ATS's and minilites cost more than a house up north and considering they probably make your car less cool in most cases your pretty mugged out whatever you do! After a brief ( ) encounter with some Y-fronts and an attempt at some peach starmags i gave in and bought some mini wheels from a (hot) woman driver 185quid with 175/50s! (thats about a quid per time they have hit a kerb).. got them home and for some reason they ended up being 4x100 anyway so i canceled my wobble nuts order and stuck them on... In the meantime id cut the rear springs... in situe (oh the danger.. woop de curse word do! look how dead i am now!) then ground some splines off the front torsion bars so i could turn them around a few turns and sit it on the bump stops.. Then i used it and smashed bits (sump mostly) and listened to blondie tapes on my 'Rover Audio System'.... so far its done Liverpool, Bristol, Denbigh, Lincoln, Birmingham a couple of times.. no sweat. Its been a van, a picnic table, a viewing platform, a bed! Get up, stop looking at this damn forum, build differant cars, use them, kill them and think its the norm..

Although its not to my tastes, I like the way this has turned out Slater. And in situe cutting is for winners. I don't think ive ever done it any other way. Get up, stop looking at this damn forum, build differant cars, use them, kill them and think its the norm.. Though I don't see whats so 'different' about changing wheels and lowering a car. Pretty much standard affair. Strange tone to that sentence. Ho-hum.

It looks even better in the flesh man. Just right and all it took was stick and rims! Really like this! But don't like being talked down to. I know, I will sell my family and build an old car! OAP+ FTW Rysz.

You must remember that Slater believes he is some how fundamentally better than most of the people on here for some unknown reason... that attitude occasionally comes across in his posts. Cars alright though. As usual. But not being able to get reasonably priced 4x100 wheels is because you ain't trying hard enough, some of the most "scene" people I know refuse to spend over £100 on a set of wheels,.. yet some how always seem to have the coolest rims.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I think the 4x100 point is valid to an extent. I am currently having a bit of a dilemma over what wheels to put on my touring, anything that is (a) wide (b) fruity and (c) of suitable offset is kinda pricey for stuff not already done to death. I could spend a four-figure sum and be worshipped, but probably not worth the domestic dischord I think if you are not a total 'wheel-whore' I.e. trying to out-wide/out-offset everyone else however, I think there are nice bits to be had if you apply a little thinking. The case I will cite is Mike's Astra (the one I sold him) with the brown 'bottletops'. OK, not the widest rims ever, not the most original, but the difference a lick of paint made was awesome. The Rover does look good though Could be better? Maybe - if they were the sort of wheels you could put flush caps over the centres, and throw in a deeper 'chin' (I think the Vitesse models had them)... more 'win' As for the attitude, granted Mr Slater you have made some very impressive cars. But please bear in mind that we don't all 'work' in a fully kitted workshop & have oodles of free-time. You'll find out, one day

Looks really well- but building a car isn't boshing on some wheels and chopping the springs. Sorry.

lets not turn this into a baiting session. All i said was that there seemed a bit of attitude to his comment. Lets drop it ffs.
He was - sort of - showing the new whip.
Any bigger plans for its future Slater? or is it just gonna be used as the hack-about?

i think he had a fair point, my dads been telling me it for years, stop reading about other peoples cars on forums and get out and work on my own works tho. gives me the drive to go and do it. , but then again i do/don't see the point about building a car isnt about chopping the springs and dumping some rims on. but then what is building a car in our sence of the term? we don't build em from scratch? where does it begin and end

What's going on with this thread? It looks cool for a daily hack, I don't think Slater is trying to put it on a pedestal with his 'famous' builds.
