Post it! Anymore RR member's art? Paul - this is great Are you in car design at all? What a bunch of artistic people you guys are - perhaps there should be a gallery of RR art - like the 'Gallery' on Tony Heart's Heartbeat - with soothing music & name & age attached to the bottom ;D

Paul - this is great Are you in car design at all? Thanks for all the comments guys! No, I'm not on car design anymore (I studied Transport Design at Coventry and have friends who are now designing for BMW-Mini & the GM Advanced Studio), although I have done a little - there's some stuff on my website (loads more needs to be scanned and uploaded), but I now work designing the exterior styling, layouts and interiors etc of very large motoryachts. I was involved with the design of a sportscar, but sadly that project seems to have been still-born - the drawings shown are some of the proposals that I generated for it, but the final deisgn was very different. it was good fun though! This high-speed amphibian however, is one of my favourites - it uses the engine from the sportscar, but mid-mounted

Theres some very cool and imaginative stuff there Paul H I've got a few friends that have done Automotive design at Coventry Uni too - but their courses delt more with the engineering & mechanical side, they tended to resent the 'stylist' designers, cos they had to do meaningless maths whilst the others were making swoopy clay models ;D For a horrible moment there I thought you may have been involved with the ill-fated FBS sports car (which my company made some chassis for) The stylist was apparently a Cov graduate - but the thing looked horrid

Cheers for the comments Dan! Unfortunately, it's all a bit out of date (everything is nearly three years old, and the Bentley & Amazon stuff dates from late '98 / early '99....), and I have loads of work that I should put in my portfolio....
I know what you mean about meaningless maths at uni - I'm hopeless at it, but I have enough of a working knowledge of engineering to know what is or isn't feasible. Some of the work that I ended up doing for that sportscar was surprisingly technical, but fortunately, involved no calculations!!
I know exactly what you mean about the FBS - IMHO it's hideous, but you're right, it was someone form Cov who styled it.

I was amazed that I passed standard grade art (scottish qualifications, I think they're roughly equivelant to a GSCE), I got a respectable mark too, but to be honest I was never any good at drawing, although I was always creative, one of the paintings I sent away to be graded for my final mark was one of a homeless guy being beaten to death by neds, which we based on some photos that we got permission to go out into the streets near the school and take, with me posing as the junkie and some mates posing as the neds. It looked really quite realistic and distressing, which was sort of the effect, we looked the part, and we used home-made fake blood and everything! ;D ;D ;D I know what you mean about institutionalised art not being much to do with art all the same. I used to get into trouble a lot for my more creative stuff in school, when my teacher saw me working on the junkie painting I mention above I got first of all shouted at for just how disturbing it had turned out (as a picture of a guy being murdered isn't going to look disturbing! Then got sent down to the school councillor for some sort of phsychological examination! ;D ;D She asked me if I was depressed or suicidal and all sorts!;D ;D (Well, that was one of the reasons they thought I was a nutter!;D ;D) That turned me right off of art, because I got into lots of trouble that year for being even vaguely creative and not wanting just to do still lifes of bloody fruit bowls for the whole year!! That 'new Amazon' idea is well cool, they should well build something like that, although I strongly doubt Volvo ever will, and if they did it'd be some front wheel drive, dull to drive thing with nothing like the dependablility or character of the original, but your sketches are bloody brilliant PaulH!

Everyone else artistic exploits have inspired m to start drawing again, so this is what i've come up with, I know it doesn't come close to the effots of others on here but drawing doesn't come naturally to me so i'm pretty happy with this effot.
