Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread, or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Still busy busy at RR HQ. The updated styling test threw up a bunch of issues, which is what a test is supposed to do, which I'm working through. The most complicated of which is the new posting tool, but I think I can get most of that sorted this week. I'm now finding myself changing to "Desktop" view on mobile when it reverts to the mobile view, which is a good sign, I've never done that before. If I can get the edit/create stuff a bit less buggy in the next couple of days I'll get a message out to everyone in the testing group to have a look again (I think I solved the different display changes on different screen sizes). Alongside that the long ongoing pain of the Club RR system looks to be solved. So once I've processed the "new" joiners (new is a relative term when some are from 5 months ago), we are back to full steam ahead. Gathering and Quick60 are in a few weeks, but I feel sort of on top of both those things. Even if we are MASSIVELY behind on the Weekender video still. Not much car wise, but I did build some new shelves in my loft which helps with storage of RR merch stock. Need to get some more wood to finish them off. How you all doing? Really looking forward to RRG now, a relaxing weekend is definitely what I need as I seem to have been flat out constantly for months. I did have a enjoyable overnight tat hauling trip last Friday/Saturday. Not done a sleep in random car park overnighter for quite a while. Even in my crappy transit connect it was fun. Spotted plenty of air-cooled campers heading down the M5 to annoy the people of Cornwall on their way to a presumably very damp holiday.

I'm not sure if we had this already, but if we have, it is worth a repost!

I've just about dried out from Bug Jam, it was a great weekend as always. I'll be filling all my memory cards up again in a few days at the Oulton Park Gold Cup weekend, three days of classics and lots of stuff on track to look forward to! Quick Bug Jam photo: The paint on Phil Norman's Bug is stunning. It's great to see him back racing with us in the VWDRC!

The mrs has been talking about a camper for a while. She set her criteria, I set mine, as we’ve both been keeping an eye on the adverts for a month or two. After getting messed around on a couple, last night we drove to Telford. A simple 2hrs each way. So, 7.5hrs later, we get home with this. Go big and then go home, or something 😆

It’s has minor bits of welding but really not much. Could do with a couple more bits but nothing major. Steps and arches are original! It’s an ex riot van that retired into being a camper, now on its second conversion, so has lead a fairly sheltered life apart from towing a guys XR2 racecar.

I assume your criteria were "rwd dually for double the smokey burnouts" right? I don’t think I dare try a burnout in a transit 😂 Had to be a Mk6 Tddi as they’re far superior at keeping the engine components in the correct configuration than a mk7 tdci. It’s a 125ps as well, highest power output they did, so not totally dog slow. Had to be a t430 for maximum chassis size/strength, twin wheels are so much more stable to drive. I see no point having a shorter wheelbase unless you don’t have the parking, the fuel economy differences are negligible once the roofline has already risen. But it also had to be downplated to 3.5t and correctly registered as a motor caravan for lez exemptness. The majority are still vans or minibuses on the v5 and dvla are very sh1tty about swapping them now. Despite fairy specific criteria we actually ended up with a choice of a few, once all the scams were filtered out. So then the quality of the conversion came into the equation. Fixed double bed was must, as was an oven/grille as well as a hob. Massive wind out awning and fully off grid solar sold us on this one in the end. There’s still changes to be made but it’s mostly cosmetics. Oh, and it’s still got plexiglass cab windows and the callsign/roof number markings stickers on the sun visors 😂

I see no point having a shorter wheelbase unless you don’t have the parking, You seem to still have plenty of parking space when You buy another 50 feet long transit. Wouldn't a removable camper cab for Your already welded up recovery transit have been an option?

Going to roll this over. I am deeeeeeep in show organising (actually mainly Quick60 organising). When I get a spare few minutes I do some more on the new forum stuff, and Littlepixel has come through with a great fun shirt design for Club RR GTi members which I will share this week. Also finally got all the new member info sorted, with membership numbers, so I can send out the stickers and stuff finally, finally! Closest I got to doing anything car related it putting up new loft shelving to store the RR stock, so I can clear some more space in the garage. Which is exciting.

Rain is mostly stopping me from making car progress at the moment so changed tack back to focusing on my motorbike engine build, which saw me give my new (to me) parts washer a trial run Been considering getting an ultrasonic cleaner as well to do some more intricate parts in. Also, not retro at all but I saw a Fiat Stilo the other day Which was a little nostalgic for me as I partly learned to drive in my parents Stilo, and it occurred to me that they've all but disappeared from the roads

Because of the weather - a million degrees when I was trying to weld in the fresh steel, and then raining for a month solid - it's taken me ages to get these repaired doors back on the car and in paint. Not show quality by any means and that's okay, they're tidy and rust free which is what matters. Especially so when you compare it to the front doors which are next up for the same round of repair work. Removing the old vinyl stripes meant using a toffee wheel for the first time and that's a learning curve all its own. Best thing about this car is it's... careworn... enough that you can't really go wrong. I'll be putting the stripes back on with satin black paint soon, if the weather lets me of course. Then I just have to find the gaps in the weather and work to do the front doors to match.

I'm about to head outside to pull the elevating roof off our T4. I've got a knackered engine in the free ads here and a boy messaged me about it. Turns out he was also after a T4 roof. He didn't want the engine in the end but I don't care. I'm using the money to buy a set of wheels for the T5...

Got the stripes painted back on the Maestro rear doors and all the interior trim back on, so that looks a whole lot better now. To celebrate, the front driver's door dropped a massive chunk of filler off the corner which is why there's all that black tape on the bottom of the front doors now. Not to worry, front door repairs are next on my list anyway, just a case of finding a slot of free time when it isn't raining and I'm not working to get it done.
