What did you buy? I'm currently considering the purchase of a bucket list car, simply because if I don't the itch is going to drive me up the wall. What car, for you, was the real 'must have' that you bought before you put your brain in gear?

Audi RS2. Just wanted all the 5 cylinder, pop bang turbo lag.  Another car I regret selling and they are now waaaaaaaaayyyyy out of my price range. So, come on, what is it….. P.  |

My fury was a heart purchase and so was my galaxie.
So basically anything massive and American I’ve purchased.
If both my golfs sold, I’d do it again with a Chevy nova…. But the market is dead luckily so I can’t shift them. 😂

A V8 of some kind, and I haven't managed it yet. I had that itch too. I bought my Daimler, and I'm glad I took the leap but it's not necessarily been an easy journey. The v8 sound is rather wonderful, but in hindsight it's also easy to kinda put the idea of 'the v8' on some sort of pedestal and when it comes down to it, it's just an engine layout. Does it really feel that different to drive compared to a straight 6 or v6 of a similar capacity... not to me. Most recently for me it was to buy my Fiat 500. I've liked the idea of one for years, thought about it and then talked myself out of it. Seeing the prices on the move, and knowing I've been priced out the market of other cars I came close to buying a decade ago (looking at you FD Rx7 and Lancia Delta...) it was now or never.  |

I think our new driveway might put paid to the V8 itch, as much as money. Actually waiting on some inheritance that might possibly fund it, but it needs to be smallish, and to throw further spanners in the works, Mrs needs to like it and I'd prefer a manual!

It was a 1965 Citroen Ami Break. I’d seen some low Amis for the first time at one of the early RRGs. I thought they looked quite cool and kind of half kept an eye open in case one came up for sale. One did, and quite locally. Turned out to have heritage with well-known Citroen bodger Hairy Dave so it had quite a lot of P38 and fibreglass holding it together. Dez took on the welding and hated it after a while. Eventually got it on the road and it was ok. Well, not really, it was a bit rubbish actually. Ran it very low for a bit but it really didn’t like being low. Got a great onboard video of Speedman doing an actual scream as I went round a bend. Then it let me down a couple of times and I lost my confidence in it for doing things like actual car journeys. It went to someone on autoshite who I think might still have it.  |

Flashbacks 😂 At least they rivetted a bit of toolbox lid in to strengthen the seatbelt mount though, right? I think the most annoying thing about that car was someone had spent quite a bit of effort tarting it up, recently painting it etc. so it looked pretty nice from the outside, but it was a total waste of time given the condition of the underlying metal. I mean without that eastern European place you got the panels from it wasn’t in any way financially sensible to fix it. |

I'm lucky in that I get to drive most of the itches I thought I'd like to scratch at work, and they're pretty much all disappointing.
That been said if I could be arsed to get the money together I wouldnt mind a 70/71 Camaro even though I've driven them and they're terrible.
The main itch though is some sort of 1920s/30s esque single seater racing special thing. Dunno if I'll ever get round to it though.

I'd never had a petrol turbo and I really fancied one, but I needed a practical family car so I chose this. It was fast, handled pretty well and looked great but it was highly strung. I was always worried it was going to blow up, and in fact, the guy who bought it from me took it autocrossing & blew it up. In hindsight, I should have bought the Stagea instead.  |

I tend to like very specific things. But then revisit the same marque/model a few times as I didn’t quite get everything out of my system on the first one, or wanted to do two or more different builds on the same base car. This is an example of that, it’s the third one I’ve had but the second one didn’t quite get finished due to the fire and that irked me. This one has turned out a better car overall though and probably wouldn’t have happened we’re it not for the loss of the second, so it’s not all bad.  This was another one. I’ve had half a dozen of these (including owning this specific one twice) but I’d always wanted to bag one so eventually I did. Doubt I’d bother with another now, they’re worth too much for what they are and rot horribly.  There’s also very specific cars I’ve wanted for a long time and now own, but aren’t finished yet. ‘34 Ford pickup, shoebox Ford, model A sedan. I see those as ‘in the bag’ though, so I don’t really have any itches to scratch at the moment, outside of finishing those cars off. Lastly major scratch was this, but probably not for the reason most would assume. It wasn’t- ‘I want a cool patina truck’ It was very specifically ‘I want to rebody a ranger’ So most people probably look at it different to what I do.  Generally if I want to experience something I go do it- 400+hp street big block v8s, flatheads, pre war daily drivers, diesel powered hot rods, various bagged stuff, proper hopping low riders, drift cars. I’ve had so many dumb cars and enjoyed most of them, but also hated ones I thought would be great. |
