Following on from this thread... forum.retro-rides.org/thread/214850/purchased-car-kgf?page=1I'm looking for something in the above price range, four seats (wouldn't mind four doors but not essential) about 8 seconds to 60 that handles well and is "fun" or a bit of an event. I've always loved classic minis, loved my mk2 XR2, FRST and S1RST to give you an idea. I also have a V8 or V6 itch to scratch, so maybe even a yank car, van or truck? I like to drive, but don't mind ABS or traction control, or even power-steering if done properly (my previous MR2 Roadsters and my RX8 had these, even my old VX220 had ABS) Over to you, I'm not in a rush, but all ideas gratefully received!

I should say I don't want another rotary, but a V6/V8 swapped RX8 would probably be an ideal solution!

Should also point out it has to live outside, and I don't have the time and abilities for major repairs. I know I'm both vague and asking a lot! Sorry!

How often do you need to use the back seat?
(If just for emergencies) I would suggest a Toyota GT86, some just fall into your budget. That said I didn't get one as my 6 y/o didn't really fit in the back 😂

OR would £7000 get you something imported from japan....turbo big barge or zx180 or silvia not sure on prices in another thread (toyota deliboy) Grizz put up a link to a website (goo net exchange) but the prices seemed a bit on the high side so might not be possible, I'm sure someone will know.

You could get one for about that in Feb (I was looking for one, bought Mustang due to needing useable seats lol) Sub BRZ sometimes cheaper Just had a look - they have gone up a fair whack!!! They also werent selling quick even sub £8k!

How about an MG ZT 260 V8? 4.6 mustang engine, looks great, sounds great, drives great. Or the V6 version for a quarter of the price, same superlatives apply

The 75 and ZT have quite a dedicated enthusiast base and spares through those avenues would be the way forward, In particular the V8 variant club, named the two sixties, actively manufacture spares for their cars. Not sure on the ZR/ZS though.

An alternative 4/5 seat MR2 could also be a Corolla T Sport Not that I'm biased at all Not particularly retro though I'll admit.. Could even get a Compressor model in OP's budget!

If it were me, I'd say to look at the following albeit with a bend in the rules -BMW E46 330Ci ; you'll get a superb one for that money with it requiring little to do, so you can focus on the fun stuff . -Porsche 986 Non S ; The boat on the Ss has slowly sailed TBH, but for cheap thrills, the non S should be fine. -Clio 172/182 ; Yes yes, I know! But they are the closest thing to a Pug 205 GTi that is safer, not much less fun, and come with the benefit of being more frugal and better for driving out of the box . They are slowly going up. You'll get a nicer 172 for far less than your budget (£1.5-3k), and a 182 Full Fat (FF) or a Clio 172 Cup for closer towards the top end of your budget. I loved mine and also owned an Escort RS Turbo S1 at the time .

Not particularly Retro, but if you want to scratch a V8 itch, how about a Mercedes CLK 430 or 500? 4 seats, V8 woofle and a decent rust-free one will not cost 7k. Also available in convertible flavour.

Clio 182 is the very best you’ll get in terms of driving experience for anywhere near that kind of money, and we’re currently restoring one for sale.
They are very small though, although reasonable practical. Ie hatch and will seat 4, but not in tons of space and 3 door only.
