I should say I don't want another rotary, but a V6/V8 swapped RX8 would probably be an ideal solution! Having spotted an R3 on Autotrader with a recent rebuild and a couple of interesting mods that leaves enough money to act as a possible "war chest" in case things go tits up, I might be getting another RX8!!!

The V6 Mondeos aren't too bad with the weight up front. This however, is dependant on a few things: -Decent tyres up front ; they need it -Decent Suspension : I actually forgot about this, but it's affecting a friend with an Alfa 156 2.4 JTD. Most aftermarket stuff is junk for the V6s and they are only designed to work with the diesels (they'll sell the same spring and damper for the V6, where they sit too low. Genuine is the way to go and it makes such a difference to the drive. However, I suspect they may now be NLA, if spares on my Mondeo are anything to go by now. That leaves adjustable coilovers, which naturally, can get pricey for something worth buying. I loved my MK3 3.0 V6 Ghia X 6 speed Estate. It gripped well, it sounded great, it could swallow up all manner of things thrown in the back. With that creamy smooth V6, it was a lovely thing to drive. Favourite memories of that car are getting from Warwick to St. David's in around 2 hours (don't ask, I was silly then...), really enjoying the backroads closer to St. David's and alot of the European road trips that car went on, take my mates and our luggage. Oh, and the festivals. If it's so damn good, why don't I have it now? It got written off by a pregnant lady driving back on her last day of maternity leave. That as they say is that.

I think a mk3 mondeo is probably too big for me, I reckon I'll be alright with a mk1 or 2,but they're getting rare!

I'll sell you my bluebird now I know it's all good. Be enough left in your budget to fix any niggles you have aswell. Drive you to the moon and back these things so I keep hearing. Cheap and easy to get up to a safe and reliable 200bhp, 5 doors, reasonable sized boot and could still probably find them guard things to keep the dog in the boot. You won't find anything retro even 90s worth importing for your budget I'm afraid that ship sailed 2-3 years ago when the American market opened up. I'm subarus are not worth owning either and all of them cost a fortune to keep, certainly wouldn't leave a classic sitting outside that's a death sentence for them things

Bought ours (03 Impreza wrx) Feb 14th 2008. 12 and a half years of ownership and we are still loathe to get rid of it as it is 'worth owning' that much to us. Does it cost a fortune to keep? Well no. It's all relative, yes it likes a drink, but not really any more than our cooper s. And less than my old Volvo t4. It's cheaper for me to insure than my current Volvo, a 2 litre diesel estate one at that. It goes through far less tyres than the Volvo too due to the silly amount of camber Volvo put on the back of the v50. It has been far far far more reliable than the Volvo too. In the decade and a quarter we have owned it, it has needed a new radiator and radiator top hose, a new power steering pulley and the bearings in the transfer case changed, the latter two being changed because of excessive noise, not failure. It is used pretty much daily, so in the 120,000mls we have put on top of the 42,000mls it was on when we bought it, we have replaced items of wear and tear so it's had a new clutch, new suspension all round and new tyres, brakes and servicing/cambelts, but none of these items are any more expensive than the majority of cars spare parts if you stay away from the stealers. Only once has it ever let us down, on our driveway, it wouldn't start because the battery was flat. For me, probably the best value motoring I've had to date.

How has that happened? I understand market forces but going up and down over such a short period? Covid, lol. They are still a bit up from Feb (there were a few under £7k) but they are heading back down it seems. My mustang is somehow worth the same/slightly more than I paid for it in Feb as well. It appears people that wanted something fun have raided their piggy banks and pushed prices up ( mk2 golfs/205's have doubled in asking price this year)

This glorious engine was installed at an original odometer reading of 68,360 miles with the car currently showing 70,178 miles. The oil has been changed every 2,500 miles using only the best, Valvoline VR-1 Racing 20w50....
So oil changed once then..
does look nice though.

Over a year later, and what a roller coaster in so many ways, I have finally taken the plunge. Although, for reasons I can't yet put on the Web, it has been a bit of a rush job again. Hopefully it will pay off and lead to something more retro next time...
