I was on the M1 early last Saturday morning so not too busy. Some dick up my chuff in a red Nissan suv & it was hammering down so spray was bad. He’s flashing lights etc, anyhow I pull across as soon as I can & he’s along side me ranting, so I flick him ‘the bird’. He carries on, waving his arms around & so on, so I just slow down, he does same, i speed up, he does same, you get the picture. This continues a bit, I look across at him & he’s fiddling in his top pocket, I think, is he getting his phone out to film me or sumat. No he produces his Police warrant card in its wallet, leans over the passenger seat & presses it up to the near side window, all whilst doing 75 ish. I gave him a slow hand clap & another dose of the bird. What a complete tosser what....you didnt add the "gareth hunt" wave??? sounds like one was in order!!

We all really need to slow down, chill and drive slower vehicles. It is really a different pace of life. The 2CV is good for a relaxed bimble but is a bit too fast. The Grey Fergie tractor is very Zen because you're no faster than a bicycle but the best is the Goddess. It's so big that no one argues with it and on a dual carriageway/motorway it has it's own private lane at 40mph. Have a picture of me coming back from Goodwood in my private lane

I still love driving - I probably always will, but there are those out there who have no concept of how dangerous it can be.
My most terrifying experience? On the A12 I was overtaken by a woman in a Range Rover Sport who was doing 85 ish whilst taking selfies of herself and her kids. Beggars belief. I don't know what is worse: not caring about her own kids or not caring about Joe Public.

I live in the South East and it is amazing when I've gone on road trips to North Wales or the Alps. Where are all the people? Roads are empty However, I have found there are tricks to enjoying driving in the South East. Early mornings or late nights are your friends, especially in the summer when it's warm and breezy at those times. Picking a good run is also useful as there's some gorgeous twisty forested runs all across the South East, but also some really dreary sections of dual carriageway. The run from anywhere north-west Kent down to Camber Sands is a lovely run, and if you pick a time after the beach has closed the traffic eases off quite a bit. Either that or road trip to the wilds of Scotland or Wales

Working shifts that start at 6am or 1pm, and finshing 1pm or 9pm, i seem to miss a fair bit of the madness that can go on. The worst trip home is after late shift where at least one of my colleagues and i get cut up every night at the first roundabout we encounter. After that its lane hogs who then don't know what lane to be in! Then there is always an Audi driver who thinks the highway code translates to something else in German, then add in the little neds who think everyone wants to race all the time!
I seem to be attracting some self appointed traffic controllers as well recently who are the ones who really spoil things. Had one the other night in his Zafira VXR or whatever who was driving below the limit as is his right, not bothered as my car is cruising nicely. Next roundabout he turns right onto a dual carriageway and i let him go. I get my turn to head in the same direction and do as i do every time i use this bit of road and give it a wee boot. I get up the hill, Zafira sees me and into the RH lane so must be turning right at the next roundabout! No, he went straight on, while i was turning left anyway!
Other than that, if i need a drive, I'm off to Kirriemuir or Forfar but not using the direct route. The A93 is only half an hour away, as is the A85 to Creiff, then there is a multitude of roads in between. On the down side, went to Pitlochry a couple of weeks ago and used the A93/A924 Moulin Moor road and had to slow down because the wife felt sick, and i wasnt going that fast!

Have to agree with a previous post, I LOVE living in Shropshire, great roads, hardly any speed cameras and not much traffic outside the bigger towns of Shrewsbury and Telford. The only downside of living in a county with a lot of roads and not many people, is the actual state of the roads!
My commute is only 1/2 a mile so that doesn't make me sour and now I daily my retro so every journey is fun. The only complaint I have is that mentioned by others, the bumblers doing 40-45 mph in a 60 limit, but truthfully, it's just endless opportunities to hone my overtaking skills.

I hate my commute, which has been made worse by roadworks on the M1, which I avoid because of the regular incidents that causes huge queues.
What amazes me also are the muppets who try everything like undertaking on the roundabout coming off the A14 onto the A43 outside Kettering, only to be inches off the back of the inevitable HGV or platoon of slow traffic heading to Northampton. And despite no hope of the traffic moving faster, they drive about an inch behind the car in front. I don't get it.
I now make my journey more tolerable by setting off by 06:30 am, so I can go through Wellingborough and Olney without too much fuss. That means I park up at around 7.15 in Milton Keynes. So unless I decide to start work early, I'll walk along the Canal, down the Ouzel Valley Country Park or round Willen Lake. I often walk 7 miles before work, get to work, change and freshen up. It's a much better way to start the day, and I'm now much fitter and saying goodbye to middle age spread!

The run from anywhere north-west Kent down to Camber Sands is a lovely run Almost anywhere on the Romney Marsh can be enjoyable if there's not much traffic. I recently discovered the roads from Canterbury to Charing then onto the Weald, I went across from Canterbury to Hawkhurst at rush hour and barely saw any traffic at all. Didn't get stuck behind anyone and as I was following sat nav I just took a left or right as and when I pleased and let the sat nav fix things. All the road on the Weald tend to join up nicely so it makes for a fun 'driving aimlessly around' experience.

I live in the E Mids around J28 M1, so it’s not too bad & within a few mins you can be out on the A6 heading towards Matlock, the Derbyshire Dales & beyond which are great roads (although steer clear bank hols) Now, we have some friends in Hertfordshire who we visit quite often & what I find is the further south you go the worse the driving gets. You can literally see it deteriorate junction by junction as you go & as soon as you get any where near the M25 the level drops again. It’s pretty obvious it’s just the pure volume of traffic & it makes people drive differently (worse) All around where they live is the same & I guess people just get used to it. I honestly do not know how you people who live in those areas put up with it. As we drive down I feel myself starting to get tense & wound up & as we leave I relax more as each junction passes Truly hateful driving experience

I have to admit I have lost interest in driving. Most of what I do is local or in and out of Belfast and it is a thoroughly miserable experience. As the Minor is taking longer to get finished than I thought I was considering getting another convertible for the summer. To be honest I've decided I can't really be bothered with the expense. Although I can easily get onto country lanes there's so many headcases in SUVs/4×4s raking round them at full pelt using up the whole road even these have lost their appeal. Maybe when I get the Minor back on the road it'll change but who knows.

I don't mind driving but is becoming a pain in the *ss , having to deal with all the chelsea tractors taking darling pugsley to school coz hes to obese to walk is par for the course living in cheshire but now i have to deal with the nutters who would rather pull out in front of you and make you emergency brake than wait two seconds for you to get pass and then thyd have a clear road, or on the flip side the medieval loonies who think if they don't look when they pull out then you don't exist !! As for the octagenerian who drives an audi RS6 at 20mph tops, don't get me started..............

Put it all into context. You CAN drive if you want to. Appreciate the fact that you still have that choice before it is surely, one day, taken from you for whatever reason. When I am finally out of this sodding hospital my Pontiac is going to get a damn good thrashing, within the speed limits, of course.😊

its not just other motorists.. try living in a "tourist" destination with fairly narrow roads. I'm pretty certain that these muppets wouldnt wander round in the middle of the road in a total daze staring up at the "pretty seagulls" (read , verminous rats with wings!) wherever it is they come from...SO WHY DO IT HERE!!!!!!! if friends/family/associates come back from holiday in cornwall saying the got called every kind of self abuser under the sun by a very angry chap in a blue 106...it was me!

I've just checked your profile to see where your from. We won't have got in your way when we've been in Cornwall, as we've never been to your locale. We'll be down again in July, I'll keep my eyes peeled so as not to inconvenience you.
