Thought it was about time I introduced my fleet especially as I'm bringing one car to the Hill Climb at the RRG. I've had this MG Maestro for a few years now, bought from salvage which i repaired and put to show and commuting use. Since booking a spot on the hill climb I've swapped out the old Efi engine which was the 110 Bhp effort for a Carb turbo from a scrap Montego Turbo. This replacement engine standard is 150 bhp but even though its built from random parts off my drive it was rolling road checked with a respectful 171 bhp. Only job left before the 20th is to change the valve stem seals then its ready to run. This trio of metros are also on the road and were a work in progress with my late son. There's a 1981 1275 S model in blue with nice orange wings! Its had the rear seats removed and mainly gets used for moving engines, rubbish or just a go-kart on the local roads. The next is a 1982 1.0l HLE which was my sons car, now inherited by his youngest sister ready for when she passes her driving test. Only mod on this one is the Maniflow exhaust but will be getting his pepper-pot wheels back on once I've given them a quick paint. Last metro is my 1985 Turbo, totally standard just needing a couple of patches welded on the scuttle panel then the eldest daughter gets to use it. The current project is a 1991 Montego Turbo Replica. I have a really rotten turbo Monty which was going to be my sons. As that's not happening now then I've decided to strip it and build a replica out of a spare rolling shell I've got sat doing nothing. I'm about half way through the interior swap but really hope to get it ready for MOT by mid September so I can take it to the last show of the season. Long term I will investigate refurbishing the rotten shell then rebuild it back as it was before, MAYBE!!! Other cars in the fleet here are 1988 Land Rover 90, Re-chassis project about 80% done 1998 Transit 4x4 Conversion about 50% done 1990 Maestro Turbo number 370 of 505, not started the rebuild yet. Next years project 1996 Land Rover 110, work horse used and abused mainly for charity support to a local Vintage club who donate to the Air Ambulance. 1988 Montego MG Estate, factory styling mule in storage. a project for maybe 2020!!! or even later ... Feel free to say hello on the 20th. Ill be with my car on the Worcester Retro stand once ive had my fun on the Hill Climb session.

Sounds like worthy results of long term dedication & effort, with plenty of memories attached to help continue your efforts.

As first posts go, yours was pretty epic! I was an Austin Rover mechanic back in 86/87/88 for Wadham Stringer in Aldershot. I remember like yesterday the 1st time I got to drive a Maestro Turbo.. Scary stuff for an 18yr old lol 😂

Hi mate great collection of mint cars, don't know if you remember me but I bought the red metro turbo bonnet off you a while back and had a good look round your fleet back then. Hope that everything is going well with you and your family after your loss. Hopefully see you soon.

Photos now working. Great collection. My family had loads of BL stuff. My mum and dad had four montegos, all estates. My sister and i both had metro's. Mine was a G-reg GTA,looked like and MG, with the turbo body kit, and wheels but with the 1275 a series and black sporty trim. My sister had a blue auto which was surprisingly nippy.

Love the fleet! would really like to have a mk1 metro at some point with something turbo under the bonnet. whats underneath the transit? Transit has a full county conversion with original 2.5td lump powering it. Will be my first project of 2018 if all goes to plan...

Its been a while since my last post but work and trying to get through multiple projects hinders my time on this keyboard. After having a really great time at the Hill Climb in Aug I decided to build the Montego Turbo Replica and apart from a few very challenging teething problems its had a fair few miles put on the clock. Hoping to have it all running right before Christmas then keeping a close eye on the forum to bid for a Hill Climb spot. The history of this project was I bought a Monty turbo which I intended to restore and give to my son. Unfortunately my son was fatally injured in a car crash in 2015 which has been the major factor in my decision to scrap the car but build a replica out of its running gear. More a choice that if my son wasn't having the car then no one will have the car. Jump forward to this summer and a change in jobs means I've had the time to crack on with the queue of projects. The whole interior and running gear have been swapped over. The gearbox has had new seals which meant a full strip down but everything looks good so needed no other work. Whilst swapping stuff over as much as possible has been renewed to avoid finding issues as the project hits the road, that said its suffered a lot more problems than I expected and have seriously challenged my efforts. I was very close to parking the car up until next year as the problems were spoiling the experience. So far additional problems I've had to fix are, poor earths, ignition switch faulty, ignition relay faulty, poor connections on fuse box, blocked fuel return pipe, carb vent valve failed, auto choke randomly coming on and flooding the engine, failed carb seals, ignition miss fires due to coil etc shorting out and now suffering fuel starvation from curse word in the tank!!! Unfortunately as the donor and the new car were off the road for at least 10+ years each its not surprising that there's a few issues coming up. Hopefully the pictures will show how well the project has progressed and all the hard work pays off with another sucessful application to take on the Hill again next year.

Ill add that I've also been tinkering on a 2 wheeled project too. Not sure if bikes get much of a mention here? Another item inherited from the late Bow Boy which his youngest sister will start using once shes learnt about gears!! Was stuck in the shed for about 4 years and again I've renewed as much as I can. Tyres, tubes, service etc etc. I've got my own bike, its fairly modern but does have the lads number plate on it.

Ace selection of stuff there mate! I've always had a weird soft spot for the Meastro / Montego things. Its probably because I remember my auntie having a beige Meastro and my dad having a late white Montego 2.0 LXI estate when I was a yoof. Even back then I knew they were curse word but in an endearing sort of way y'know? curse word but characterful... I'd love one as a daily now

Some petrol headedness going on here. Credit to you for keeping these icons going. I can't imagine your sentimental value attached to some of these. I grew up in an '89 silver montego so I do have a nostalgic attachment to the model.
