Hi guys, Following on from the thread I started in the general board, I am now the owner of this lovely, calypso green 1.0 Citroen AX spree. Completely unseen I bid on it via eBay in the dying seconds, with the help of an alcoholic beverage or two, not thinking I'd be the owner as I'd assumed someone else had put a higher max bid. Nope! I'd only gone £10 higher and it was mine. Organised collection from a very efficient company on Shiply and it was delivered bang on time today It's currently having an MOT on it to determine what I've gotten myself into, but from the initial look round/underneath while it was on the truck, it's looking unbelievably rust free apart from a small amount on the edge of the bonnet, so no biggie. It looks very well looked after mechanically but the paintwork is looking a bit patchy from some DIY rattle cans. Drove it a short distance to the garage and it feels good. Extremely comical suspension though! and it's the first time I've been in a car with four gears in years! 1 litre of throbbing powaaah!!! Which brings me onto the plans... I haven't decided which yet, depending on price and availability, a Saxo VTR or VTS engine will be shoehorned in and mated to the 1 litre gearbox that currently resides. I'm not fussed about top end speed, I'm after something hilariously quick off the mark. I'm also toying with the idea of adding either a supercharger or throttle bodies, but more research is needed on the subject. The brakes and suspension will have an upgrade too from a Saxo. The interior will be stripped out and some bucket seats added, if I can find something comfortable for my dart player physique. The bodywork will be kept standard along with the terrible looking paint I'll update the thread later on/tomorrow when I've heard back from the garage. Hoping it's good news!

Keep an eye out for a cheap saxo VT as a donor! Then you've got engine and suspension as well as a four stud conversion and suitable wheels. Saying that in my opinion S2 Rallye steels look best on these.

Certainly a pretty colour, ignoring the 'touch-ups'. 4-speed would have to get tiring at speed?

Good score and best colour. I had a girlfriend with an AX in the summer of '91. Don't reckon she's still got it.

my first car was an ax 1 litre 4 speed in that colour!
Fantastic little car best bit is the door cards have pouches the exact size of a wine bottle
French engineering at its best
Didnt have the money at the time for any mods as i was a student so I'm keen to see where this goes

Everyone loves a "had a few beers and went on eBay" story!!!
That paintwork is horrible and I'm loving the shonky panel gap around the bonnet - Maximum purchase "lad" points!
Carry on.

Turbo ing is fairly easy on the vts engines they are a very strong engine. Compression can be left as is with mild boost (7psi) and a decent intercooler The recent-ish discovery is the Mini Cooper turbo has the same exhaust port spacings and around 50% of the studs line up with the rest just needing elongating. The turbo uses a vac operated wastegate but easily modified to work with a pressure op w/g The standard ecu can be remapped with a 2 bar map sensor and some higher flowing injectors (Clio 182 fit ) this will give around 180 bhp safe and shed loads more torque The turbos can be picked up on eBay with ex manifold for around £150. Just something to think about

The headlight clamps/adjusters are useless on these, remember doing an emergency stop in mine once and the headlight just shot out at 100mph not a bad fail though those adjusters will sort most of that

I love these, I used to own one that I converted to a 1600 16v vts engine, miss that little ripper.

It appears that I will be adding a turbo Having a read around on the subject I've found that the GT17 turbo coming off my Saab 9-5, to be replaced with a TD04, is perfect for adding to a VTR engine and you can buy the manifold and downpipe to suit Although it's a bit pricey, I suppose I can't argue since the turbo is free.

Slippery slope now, trust me! If I was doing it over again I would not go the eBay route of buying parts, cost me so much more time and money with substandard and non compatible parts it just wasn't worth it, different oil cooler threads, turbo feeds, remote filters etc

It's home!
Drove it about four miles from the garage and I can't fault it. It did struggling up quite a steep hill though. I'm used to powering up it in the Saab though.
On the hunt for a Saxo now 😁
I've tried to sign up to the AXOC in the mean time too, to make a list of necessary parts, but I still haven't had the activation email yet 😞

Love it.
8v turbo will be good!¬ and much easier in terms of fitting in there!
Friend of mine 16v'd his AX and had to drill out the scuttle panel in two places so he could remove the top side of the inlet manifold.

I'll check to see if your activation email has gone thro. We've been having problems with the new board. Your best bet is to join the club on Facebook. As you'll get pretty much instant answers
