The donor has arrived As usual, brought completely unseen from eBay. First impressions are it's pretty good. The interior is a bit grotty and the brakes don't seem the best, but everything engine, brake and suspension wise is going to be stripped down and reconditioned anyway. Bonus features are a 4-1 manifold coupled to a straight thru stainless exhaust system, new alternator, new starter motor, quick shift gear selector and four pretty new Avon tyres which will come in handy I had a quick drive of the Saxo round the car park where it was delivered and all is well. Defiantly needs a tidy up though! I will probably have the front seats out for the AX, but they need a proper clean! I'm undecided on the steering wheel too. I believe it's a fake one as it's not the most rigid of wheels I've held. All I need to do now it start stripping it

Looks like a good donor.
Manifold, exhaust and a decent enclosed air filter really waken these engines up.

I recommend you get the conversion loom of ryan. It's all plug and play and he can unlock the ecu getting rid of the immobiliser

A small and boring update.
I've run out of space to strip the Saxo down so I've asked my friendly neighbourhood garage to get all the big bits off for me. Not exactly happy about it, but needs must.

Finally managed to get the ball rolling with the conversion again!
All the parts have been stripped off the Saxo and have made it back to my house.
I've spent this afternoon taking the gearbox off for storage purposes, giving the engine a once over and making up a list of parts I'm needing.
While taking the engine out of the back of a van on my own the engine slipped on the sack truck and shattered the thermostat housing 🙄 other than that it all looks good.
The plan now is to swap the clutch out while the gearbox is disconnected and it's off the car. I'm not sure if a Helix paddle clutch is overkill (remember, it's going to be cammed to start and eventually turbo'd) or wether a standard one will hold out. The difference is approx £350!
After that is to get it in the AX, running and then I'll take it apart again to change all the gaskets and stick a Newman Ph3 cam in 😁

Managed to do a little today. Started cleaning up the rear axle for paint. I had some paint left from my Saab so thought I'd use that. Who doesn't love bright green to The plan is to paint the other bits black but I couldn't get the brake lines off the calipers and bias valve with the spanners I had so have ordered some proper flare nut spanners from eBay, so I'll continue when they arrive. The parts have been coming in as well. So far I've got the bits for an oil change, making use of ECPs discount code over Easter, a replacement thermostat housing and the clutch has turned up. It's a shame it's going to be hidden away in the gearbox! I opted for a DriveTorque stage three clutch kit. Reading reviews about uprated clutches for the Saxo, and in general, there were mixed reviews about the DriveTorque clutches. For the most part it seemed to be people comparing them in 200SX's used for drifting against 3x more expensive Helix ones. For what I need, I imagine it'll be fine.

Took full advantage of the glorious weather to crack on with a bit more on the AXo.
No photos, but I've stripped the top half of the engine out and removed the drivers side suspension. The original plan was to use the top mounts off the AX to put on the Saxo suspension as the bolt pattern is different, but once the original one was off it was clear it was knackered! I've got to wait for some new bearings and top mounts to be delivered to ECP on Tuesday. While I'm ordering bits, the brake pipes are going to have an upgrade too to some HEL items.

It's been a while since the last update! I was hoping to get to the Gathering in the AX, but I've had some problems with getting to work on the car. Now the problem has been evicted, I can happily crack on again! I took the engine out a few months ago and the drivers side strut and had to stop due to the above. I spent today changing the front suspension over to the Saxo items. Apart from changing the top mounts, they are a direct swap. I sourced some new two stud top mounts and bearings a while ago in anticipation of the swap as the current ones were looking knackered. I ended up getting them from eBay as GSF & ECP couldn't supply them. The gap has come down a bit after bouncing on it a few times and tightening the nut up some more. Will be lower with the engine in! Next up will be the rear suspension, then the mounting of the engine While I'm doing it I'm going to replace the wishbones and track rod ends and they aren't looking to clever. That's why the bolts aren't done up fully for the eagle eyed. I've opted to get as much of the work done myself except for the brakes. I hate brakes on the best of days, but so far they've given me nothing but trouble on the AX so I'll be enlisting a professional!

I like both of these, really wanted a Saxo VTR/S when I was a teenager, still think they are pretty cool now! Look forward to seeing the swap!
Cheers, Drew

Started with the best intentions yesterday but didn't get very far. Managed to get the car up in the air at the rear and take off the spare wheel holder. Tried to take the bolts off the beam to drop it down but I realised I hadn't lifted the car high enough to get properly under and the bolts I could reach aren't being gripped property by the 19mm socket that should fit.
My brother then turned up so I gave up. Tidied the scrap metal out of the garage and called it a day.
On a positive note the rear shocks, front wishbones and track rod ends have all arrived.

Will keep an eye out for a thread 😉 To update the thread, I’ve managed to do exactly nothing since the last post with a combination of awful weather, nights getting darker and working 70 hours/week for the last five weeks. I am hoping to do something on Sunday though.
