I've not built a model kit in about 15 years, used to build quite a bit with varying degree's of success, kept a small collection though (scrapped 100's), been in a glass cabinet in my living room, annoyingly they have still attracted dust Would never build a kit box stock, always "kit bashed" swapping wheels, engines etc, to me that's what it's all about. Lately i've had a serious horn for all kinds of gassers, (and Blower surge ) Found this pic by accident. It's based on an old Revell 51 Anglia Gasser which led to me buying this I actually bought and build a few of these kits back in the late 80's but they didn't turn out so great (tried converting one into a coupe), like to thing i'm a bit more patient and skilled now. Have also ordered a Thames Gasser and considering a Henry J and a Tri Chevy Gasser. Will probably build the Anglia mostly stock (colour undecided) but considering cutting out the bonnet sides like the green one (as the stock front end doesn't fit right and hopefully this would help), stock motor is an injected Olds but i have a blown 440 Chrysler motor i may fit. Disapointed to find my local model shop closed though , popped round earlier for some glue, paints, brushes and other materials to find it boarded up, sign of the times i suppose

I've built quite a few - a mix of 1:24 / 25 and a couple of 1:16. As well as a load more in those scales, I also have two 1:8 waiting to be built. Nice collection there, and I especially like that Anglia gasser kit - the recent Hemi Healy thread on here has made me want to build my first gasser, but using the old Revell Big Healey as the basis! Some pics that were taken a while back - two house moves and retraining as a teacher over the last two years has not left any time for model making, but I hope to rectify that soon. However, quite a few now need repair... (this pic also shows various 1:43 and a few of my 1:18 diecast models) My workbench a couple of years ago - about half those shown there have since been finished. Once I find the photos, I'll post up some more detailed pics of the models that I've built

I've got that Anglia gasser kit about 25% built from years ago, want to rebuild/finish it but after a certain Readers Ride thread do it in black as opposed to the previously planned red. Then do a Tamiya MX5 kit to replicate my 1:1 model.

Had a couple of spare hours today so had a play about with the Anglia. Sanded the roof smooth to remove the sunroof, decided to seperate the bonnet from the grill shell (planned motor will make the bonnet pretty much redundant anyway), had a rake through my rattle cans and found a new can of Ford Electric Orange (Focus ST), sprayed the floor pan already so this will be the eventual colour Put the rear tyres together which took a surprising amount of work. I think i'll radius the rear arches so i can lower it at the rear and get it sitting like this one.

Tinkered with the Anglia on and off today, got quite a bit done and really pleased with the results so far Trimmed up the rear arches as mentioned, this allowed me to lower the rear and get it sitting more Gasser like (had to junk the ladder bars though), got the axles together, rear was easy enough but the front was mega fiddly with tiny parts for the hubs (front wheels are meant to steer from the steering wheel), managed it though and the front is sitting just right.

That's looking good, really must do something with my kit I started it about 30 years ago... At the time it was going to be red with gold highlights, Tamiya clear gold over the chrome.

This was my favourite. Any idea how they make the water splash?

Yup, that Stratos is indeed truly epic, and the dust trail is unbelievably realistic. Almost certainly the Hasegawa kit (they did a road version too) should anyone be wanting to build a model Stratos.
That water splash is probably clear resin. Again, scarily convincing - I would love to know in detail how it was done. Guessing it was slow setting, and sculpted whilst it cured?
Btw for anyone inspired by the Anglia gasser, whilst that kit is not in production at the moment, Revell Monogram have recently re-released the Thames van version.

Agree, the water splash look's very like resin, sculptured and pulled as it was setting like you say. Dust cloud on the Strato's looks like a wool/fibre material, again amazingly effective. I've bought the Thames gasser kit, will start it after the Anglia but will post up pics of the kit when i get the time. The Anglia kit does come up for sale now and again, was originally a 60's release but most (like mine) are the 1988 re-release old stock.

Used to be right into 1:25 models, both cars and trucks, now keen to collect 1:32 kits or diecast models of ordinary cars to display with my collection of Britains diecast tractors and farm implements. Haven't had much success finding them on this side of the world though. We in New Zealand never saw the full range of 1:32 Airfix kits that you guys got in the UK unfortunately.

Mine must be an original release then as I had it before 1988, probably worth something it it was unbuilt in it's box... I've also got a part built transparent BMW M1 by ESCI that I think are quite rare these days. Mark

Mark If it's a Skippers Critter Anglia then it's an older release, i think old kits are only worth decent money sealed in the box, where's the fun in that though ? That white MK2 Escort RS1800 i have is an old ESCI Transparent kit (also have two others part built), decided to paint mine though, but the clear plastic is not as easy to work with as normal coloured styrene, don't think i've ever seen a BMW M1 kit. As mentioned here's pics of the Thames Panel van kit. Slightly disappointed to find it seems smaller than the Anglia, don't know how a real Thames compares to an Anglia but the wheel base on the two models is the same, if i enlarge the rear arches on the Thames the same as the Anglia the outers on the Thames will disappear and need to be refabricated Doors on the Thames are nearly half the size of the Anglia's I'm sure it will build into a nice model but right now i prefer the Anglia.

My kit is the same as yours (box) says copyright 1985 on the side.
The BMW kit is in the loft, would be good to build it with a superdetailed engine etc. I'll have to get it down and take a photo and see if it has deteriorated. I've got a magazine review of the transparent Escort, I think there was another model as well.

Shame the old transparent ESCI kits are so rare, I have the remains of their Lancia Beta MonteCarlo Gr5 racer & would LOVE another Seems they did a Stratos too... Must admit I haven't built/finished a kit in many years despite buying many (I still have). The most memorable builds being Fujimi enthusiast series Porsche 356, Dino 246 & Lamborghini Countach, having cut & hinged the doors to open & was converting Countach into the original show car... Not many 1:24 scale kits would include decals for the manufactures markings etched in the side window glass (Dino), or moulded brake mechanics for inside the demountable brake drums & a piston/crank set to hide inside the engine (356). Mad. It is encouraging to see your work upon them resuming.

My kit is the same as yours (box) says copyright 1985 on the side. Ah, they must have made the kit for a few years in the 80's then, i remember Terry Ross writing about it's re-release in Street Machine back in the 80's, Revell also re-released the Willy's pick up and Coupe Gassers back then. It is encouraging to see your work upon them resuming. Cheers man, will update the thread over the weekend, will be fitting the motor and maybe painting the shell
