I was talking to my dad about cars that he's owned in the past, normally bought for peanuts and not really appreciated as they would be now - usually followed by the phrase "If only I'd have kept it... it'd be worth quite a bit now!" Cars he's had that I wish he'd kept (so I could have it ;D!) include: Mk 2 Jaguar which he totalled after hitting a pillar box Mk 1 Ford Cortina VW beetle (brush-painted chocolate brown.... nice!) Vauxhall Viva, M-plater in Yellow All were bought at a time when they didn't fetch much. Anyone else's relatives have anything they wish they'd kept hold of?

Riley 2.5 litre, his first car and he blew the engine A lovely looking car. He wishes he still has one, when we goto car shows and one is there. He stands talking for ages. I love those - which model was it - RM (padded roof, ash frame & separate wings or the later Pathfinder? I'm guessing that he probobly over revved it - they had a very long stroke engine (120mm ) - peak power of 100bhp was at only 4500 rpm In a Pathfinder, 90mph in overdrive is only 3000rpm ;D Back on topic... Dad's first car was a Seat 600, when he was living in Majorca (grandparents emigrated in the 1960s), which was written off when he was forced off a mountain road by a Porsche 911 that came round a corner on the wrong side of the road Fiat of some kind - biodegradable body! BMW 2002 Tii - very unreliable electrics Saab 99 early eighties - Pug 305 estate (when I arrived!) Another Pug, white Audi 100 Avant, green Another Audi, blue 89 - Volvo 745 (G436UYM or G436 UYW), blue 92 - Volvo 945 SE Turbo (J907 HUS) hus is apparently the Swedish for house ;D Nicknamed the hearse, as it was battleship metallic grey, even the 'chrome' bits under the windows... Mum managed to drive it 40,000 miles in 18 months Also in the 80s, L-R Lightweight (used as second / station car) 1937 Riley Lynx Sprite tourer (toy) - when it arrived in 1986 (yes, that is me ) After, in 1993 94 - Volvo Amazon (everyday car, not toy!!! It's mine now 2001 - Volvo 855 (L reg)

Well, besides a line of Volvo saloons going back into the early 80s, I remember... a black Mini cooper with KGB as part of the number plate (very Russian secret poice! ) a mid 70s Mazda B1800 pickup, and another one from the mid/ late 70s later that was customised in the Mad Max style, and carried scrap metal usually, A mk 3 Capri 2 litre pinto (can't remember much about it) A mk 2 Granada with 2.5 V6, (he always wanted a mk1 3 litre but he's never found a good one) A 3 door Chevette that I can't remember much about but I think it was gold and had wide rostyles on it at one point. And the afore-mentioned Volvos, from 144s, early 240s etc up to more modern 2, 7 and 9 series, always saloons oddly enough, he never bought a Volvo estate, always saloons he never did have a newer or flashier car himself, but he drove more than a few nice ones for firms he worked for, and I remember him taking home some odd stuff, including Colt Celestes, Sapporos, Merc 500SEs (!) and even on the odd occasion an early Rolls Royce Silver Shadow (which got plenty of attention when people saw him parking it in the East end, people thought he'd nicked it from his boss when they saw him cruising around in it, it was a well known car around here after that! Plus he had some nice lorries, stuff like his customised Scania 111 artic with a shortened three axle chassis, brand new sleeper cab, and a bigger than stock engine, plus huge chrome stack exhausts that looked like they were nicked off an American Mack or something! All paid for by the haulage firm he worked for of course, it was a hell of a capable motor, and good for publicity, looked nice in two tone green, BRG and mint green, one of my earliest memories is going with him long distance, Inverness-Liverpool etc under cover of dark. Memories eh? ;D ;D ;D ;D

My Dad's still well into cars, in the past he's had all sorts of stuff including (some of the more interesting ones) :- - A35 Van (with rear seat conversion no less!) - mk1 mini cooper - various minis from Cooper S's, Coopers, Vans, pickups, through to boggo mid 80's 998's. There are too many to mention - a few triumph 2.5's - Triumph GT6 - Triumph Dolomite Sprint (supposedly ex-works but unlikely, at best it was used as a recce car) - Rover SD1 V8S - Rover SD1 Vitesse single plenum - a couple of MGB's - a mk1 escort mexico (although that never ran) - A few Golf GTis and a Sirrocco GTi - Audi Coupe GT He's still got - An MGC with a downton triple SU conversion and knock on minilites - a mini pickup - a few modern cars Best opportunity missed though was he was offered a Jag XK120 lightweight (the aluminium bodied one with rear arch spats) for 1000quid (it was running and MOT'd too) unfortunately this was when 1000quid was a lot of money and he couldn't raise it !
