Hi I'm considering selling my Beta Spyder project and getting something I can actually use. It'll be a weekend car, so running costs aren't too much of an issue, but my garage is an odd shape (the corner is cut off) so nothing longer than 4.1m will fit. Sadly not only does this rule out Mercedes SECs and such large coupes, but also Porsche 924s and so on. What fun cars are about with 2+2 (or more) seats? Sadly my budget is 2-3 grand, so I can't stretch to an Integrale. Current ideas are (80s,70s, and 60s): Honda CRX Lancia Beta coupe Sunbeam Stiletto (or similar) What else should I be considering? Cheers Duncan

Anglia 105e with a 'nice' engine and the right mods already done. 11ft long if memory serves.

I've owned a CRX and I own an Imp, both very different cars but both very fun in their own rights. Honda beat and Suzuki Cappuccino both look a barrel of laughs too.

Beat and Cappuccino are only 2 seats aren't they? I need something I can get the wife and my 4 year old in, otherwise I'd be after an x1/9. :-) If I liked welding (or had the time for it) then I'd keep the Beta Spyder - I'm only selling due to lack of time to work on it. I had a CRX a few years ago and loved it. I will look at Anglias (would never have thought about them - that's why I started this thread). Cheers, and keep the suggestions coming. :-)

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

The hope would be that for 2 grand I could get something with an MOT and being made mostly of metal rather than mostly of holes! But...

Have you thought about extending the garage outwards a little as it'd then open up a lot bigger choice ?

You have a healthy budget for any 80s hot hatch there so mk1 golf gti or a 205 gti would fit the bill. Maybe a pulsar gtir for a bit of rally slag goodness.

3,886mm long (4,019mm with rubber bumpers). 2+2 seating, the rear seats are very basic though. More of a bench really.

I was JUST about to suggest an MGB but since bgt beat me to it I'll suggest a different MG, the 1100/1300. Not sure you can get them within budget but they have the advantage over the MGB of having real rear seats instead of a pretend rear seat. The French are very good at fun small cars, so how about a Renault 5? You don't need to get the GT version for it to be fun and you could put your own stamp on a regular 5 fairly easily I expect without spending megabucks. If they're both a bit mainstream, you could always get yourself a Simca 1000. Okay, so they have rust issues but then what car of the era doesn't? If you're really lucky you might even be able to bag a Rallye variant. I can assure you that it would be fun, it also has proper seats and is short enough to fit in your garage. They have this delightfully solid feel about them too, backed up by the peculiar styling.

But as a Lancia owner you do not understand logic so you'll go for it anyway How vital is 2+2? As there's lots of mega fun retro 2 seaters for your budget and size restrictions.

I can't extend the garage as the back is part of the house, and the front has a sloping driveway. I need 3 seats minimum, because otherwise I'll end up driving the Multipla so I can take the wife and daughter. So a Matra would also be ok and they are super cool and would fit, but they are real hens teeth. I'll have to investigate hot hatchery, I had an Uno turbo a few years ago which was fun if somewhat mad. I guess a Delta HF Turbo would also fit the bill... I like that Simca - tell me more...

2 seats? And, tbh, it would probably be better if it was a tin top as my wife doesn't like driving with the roof off...
